The Utes do have a good football program, but when your all time winningest quarterback only has 24 wins, you provide evidence that you are not a "great" program.
Sorry to dissapoint you Utes, but your winningest quarterback ever is not even as good as BYU's current quarterback (nor will he have as many wins after three games into next season).
The quarterback is the most important position in College Football.
Max Hall has a better winning percentage, and two less wins after just his second season at BYU.
BYU Wins 34-32.
Sakota misses a 36 yard field goal with 4 seconds to go the play after a Brian Johnson overthrows a wide open Freddie Brown in the end zone.
As consolation, Brian Johnson should be able to pull off that coveted 25th victory in the Poinsettia Bowl.
I'm a little confused on this one.
If Austin Collie averaged 28 yards per kick return, and David Reed averaged 26 yards per kick return,
Then Austin Collie would have a higher average yards per kick return than David Reed.
So wouldn't Austin Collie lead the league in average yards per kick return?
Max Hall is hands down the best QB in the MWC and definitely top 5 in the country. I think he ranks as the third best QB in the nation while Johnson ranks as the 15th best QB in the nation. Can't wait until Saturday. It will be biggest game in Utah history. Cougs by one. Eat your heart out Utah! 31-30
BYU is the second best team in the MWC behind TCU. Utah's luck will run out come Saturday. Oregon State blew the game and so did TCU vs. Utah. Both teams could've sealed the deal and won by two scores versus Utah but made bonehead mistakes both mentally and physically. Utah is a good team but they're overrated just like BYU was when they met up with TCU. BYU has a much better offense and they are consistent at putting up points. They are a machine and cannot be stopped. TCU got lucky and the ball bounced their way all night long. Utah's defense is slightly better as a group but the special teams deparment for Utah is only better in punting. Sorenson can nail a 65 yard field goal if called upon. Utah's offense is good but not great unlike BYU. Max Hall is the MWC's best, Austin Collie is the #1 receiver in college football, Pitta is in the top 5 of his group and Harvey Unga is a top ten running back in the country! How can you stop that? That's right, you can't. And the #1 O-line baby! Go Cougs!!!
coming from the south. Is it just me or is this COLE guy the laziest trash talker we have heard from so far?
Let me get this straight, you're going to beat us because against both tcu and oregon st. we got "lucky"?
TCU beats you by 25 and they were "lucky" too? I'm sorry, but thats just lazy.
The U defense is fast, and we saw how it worked out with the last fast team you played.
Good thing you have sorensEN(at least get his name right) since you won't be coming past midfield. King Louie is the best place kicker/punter in the country.
I do however have to admit that Collie is pretty decent, as long as Gazoo from the flintstones (google it) isn't already swarmed uncer the red sea.
Harline may still be open (Staley has jonny picking up his shift at the sprint kiosk), but the washington huskies are still waiting for overtime!
You forget that defense wins championships. Utah will walk all over BYU's defense. BYU has a great offense...true, but we saw what happened to them when up against a great defense (TCU). Johnson will be able to throw all day against BYU's secondary which is already thin because of injury. Cougars you can keep talking all you want about your QB and offense but it won't matter cause it's going to look like Wyoming's offense on Saturday. Coach Whit and Anderson will shut them down. Pitta will not be 100% which will make things that much easier. As far as i'm concerned Utah could run the ball all day and still win. Look at the yardage BYU allowed Airforce on the ground...350. And how much did Utah allow airforce to run the ball...50 yards. Do you want more examples?...not enough room. Keep talking BYU...they are all dreams, just like your perfection T-shirts. would you mind sending them to SLC?...we could use them right about now. Oh wait...they are blue, we'll just make our own. But really you should be thanking us for bringing a cool 1$ million to Provo in BCS money AGAIN.
As I've said all along . . . Cougs 34-28. Nothing more needs to be said.
When your QB has 24 wins, that means he started a little more than 2 seasons. If you have a great program, then you have a constant flux of good QBs which means you rarely start a freshman or sophmore QB. Don't be stupid Glory Boy.
Utes are recognized NATIONALLY as the best football team in the 2008 MWC, even though Utah Valley has their own Relative rankings, but those won't get you a win, nor a BCS invite.
And if Max Hall were a top 5 QB, wouldn't he be a finalist in the QB awards? Right now he's a candidate, but with two losses due to his lack of versatility, he will not be a finalist.
Utah has a defense that rivals that of the 2004 team. Don't expect more than 3 TDs from the cougs in this game.
Utah wins in blow out. 52 - 21
I'm a BYU grad and long time fan, but this BYU team plays with no emotion or heart. Neither do the coaches. Why did Collie have to fire up the players last week vs. AFA? Where was Bronco??
Utah on the other hand NEVER fails to get up for this game. The offenses are fairly even in terms of output but BYU's defense will give up the big play tomorrow.
Next year with a new QB, Utah will fall more easily at LES.
I only hope Utah draws a REAL opponent this time in the BCS bowl and gets brought back to reality. They are not legit top 10.
That's a silly comment. When 24 wins is the most by a QB, that means you're not a top program? Why?
SakoDa isn't spelled with a T. You'll learn that though since you'll see him on the field all game...kicking extra points.
Hall is not a Heisman trophy candidate, and Collie's throwing can't be that great...he's 0/1 with an INT against Utah. He floated that ball. I hope he's been working on his throwing during the last 4 years. We know he worked on it during his MTC time.
Some koolaid drinkers online this morning.
BYU is a good team, so is Utah. While the Utes may have gotten "lucky" many times this season, they are undefeated. They must be REALLY lucky - they should go to Vegas. And to say that in the BYU/TCU game the ball constantly bounced TCU's way, well, maybe BYU shouldn't have put the ball ont eh ground to allow it to bouce TCU's way.
I'm a die hard BYU fan, but I am also realistic. Close game to the end, again.
For this game, I challenge Utah fans to 1 push-up for each point margin that Utah wins by.
And for BYU fans, I challenge you to donate 1 push-up for each point margin that BYU loses by.
Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Nice try, young Cougar fans. But by stating BYU is the 2nd best team in the MWC behind TCU, you immediately imply that BYU can be, at best, the 3rd best team in the conference behind both Utah and TCU. Or doesn't the head-to-head competition between TCU count? As I recall, the results were: Utah 13 TCU 10 and TCU 32 BYU 7.
Bringing up the close games against the good competition that Utah has beaten only solidifies the Utes as an outstanding team. Oregon State is now in line to go to the Rose Bowl if they win their remaining games. And what about the games that BYU has pulled out against poor competition? The 28-27 victory over lowly Washington is Washinton's only close game this season. Besides a 7 point loss to Stanford, Washington (0-10) has not been closer than 20 points to any other team they have played.
Also, the last 5 games of late are a bad sign for BYU. Besides the USU game, BYU has struggled to defeat 4 average teams. The offenses are a toss up; but the Utes' defense and special teams are much stronger.
Utes 34 BYU 10
Very rarely do you see offensive teams win championships. Defense wins out most of the time. I look for a great game but believe Utah's defense will bend but won't break this year. Utah has too much to lose and the team won't have mental lapses and won't allow fluke, lucky plays to occur. Max will be pressured all day. If Utah can score 24, they'll win the game. 24-21 is my prediction.
Utah has one of the best kicker/punters in the nation and I think that BYU is going to have a hard time stoppin the deepp punt and field goals. Uath also has a very talented quarterback and has shown that he can do well in high stress situatons. Overall I think that UTAH is the better team.
GO UTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will indeed be a great game between two ball clubs. It's 6's either way. Utah wins great for the conference for a team like Utah to go to a BCS game. Byu still goes bowling. A BYU win and tie for the conference championchip. Utah does not go to a BCS bowl which does not look good for MWC. BYU still goes bowling.
The QB's will be as effective as their O-Lines. Amazingly, talk has been about BYU's apparently fat, slow incompetent O-Line vs Utah's sinsational D-Line. Yet UTAH's "D" has recorded 21 sacks and BYU's 20. Ummmm, no big difference!
Regardless of who we favor on paper, those four seniors on BYU's O-line are probably NFL bound. They might just out-muscel UTAH, knocking the smaller group on their kiesters. Speed becomes irrelavent when on your heiny. I love UTAH, but BYU didn't get this far without dominating the Lines in most of the last 35-40 games. The TCU game was a fluke, a flat Thursday night affair with every card stacked against them.
UTAH is capable. But if you match ABILITY and PHYSICALITY mono-a-mano, we might be jumping the UTE bandwagon too much. With 4-5 deep defenders, HALL with 3-4 seconds hits a lot of people in open spaces. As LaVell said, "It will be a shootout. Whomever has the ball last will win."
Whomever gets "second" down RIGHT wins. Jan Jorgansen is being overlooked too much! Finally, If BYU presses at the edge and disrupts the wide-outs, Johnson will be flustered, make mistakes. BYU's safeties are the real question!
BJ better get used to looking up to BYU he will be on the ground all day. BYU has better stats then Utah. Look them up. Collie is the best reciever in the country. Jorgenson is the best sack leader in the MWC.
