Debt Runs All! | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 21, 2008
"... Salt Lake City Council releases the $10.2 million in voter-approved bond money The Leonardo needs to move forward."

We have become a Nation of debtors, we finance arts, entertainment, schools, roads, utilities, etc. all on debt that we pay-off through raising taxes or "fees" on the workers paycheck ... now the worker has goes into debt to buy his house, car, rv, atv, food, vacation, etc. ... the worker then complains to politicians who inturn say that you must be more patriotic to pay more taxes ... when & where will it end!

Arts & entertainment are good, when they can support themselves, other than that, just like a business, if they can't support themselves they should close down!

We all need the arts! | 9:00 a.m. Nov. 21, 2008
We may be a nation of debtors but the writer above in lumping schools, roads and the arts together would have us think they deserve equal treatment, yet he singles out the arts to be discarded if they can't fund their own way. This is silly on its face; would the writer ask the same of schools? Perhaps they should return to bake sales for funding. And as for the worth of public funding of the arts, this has a strong historic heritage, dating back centuries in Europe and then here in the US. Why? Because the citizens have always seen the value of the arts in enriching individual lives and the entire culture. We are a better people for it. Would the writer actually propose no museums, no symphony orchestras, no galleries and so on if they cannot be self-supporting? Is that the kind of society he wants? I think if he calmed down from his zeal and considered the consequences of his rash proposal he might arrive at a different conclusion. The Leonardo will be a superb addition to the SL cultural landscape and benefit us all, children and adults.

My point was about the taxes, bonds, fees & etc. & the debt that has gotten us in this financial trouble in government, business & homes.

Always relying on the "State" is exactly what Frederic Bastiat stated "The state, is the great fictitious entity by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else."

If someone want a rock concert hall, they think the "State" should build one for them, if someone want a bakery museum, they think the "State" should build one for them, ... on & on ...

I went to the Leonardo for the body worlds 3, I was fascinated, amazed & educated (for over 3 hrs!), I have told many of my friends (yes, I do have some!) & coworkers about it & recommended them to go.

Again, AIMHO!
