Your right Don, it's just not fair that someone else is feeding your seven kids but just won't pick up the tab for your eighth. What has this country come to when a man can't count on the government to feed his whole brood for him.

I am glad to hear that this school is helping by sending food home. I hate to hear that anyone is hungry especially in this country when we have so much. When will we learn to share and get along. Never I suppose. SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Churches can do both. Why can't others?

We are going to hear more and more stories like this as time marches on.

I don't think I have ever heard a newspaper say that demand is down. No matter what the economy. No matter what party is in charge. There will always be poor people, even with churches and charities and school lunch programs...

Whether people spend money on supporting prop 8 or pay their tithe there will always be someone who will say - why didn't they speed all that money on the poor? And the unchurched give so much less and keep so much of their weath to themselves.

I say give all you can to those less fortunate.

My wife and I supported a family of six children with a garden - canned everything for many seasons and through two layoffs. We shopped at the day-old bread store and DI. As a family we bought much at the regular can good sales at Macy's, etc.

Every Christmas and on other occasions we prepared a gift box of food and clothes to those without as much. For several years I spotted my kids former clothes and even my old suit at church.

We maintained our food budget at $350.00 per month or less. We ate mostly vegetables and in-season fruit. We rarely consumed meat.

Now that we are more prosperous and our family is mostly gone - I think we spend more on food than we did with six kids at home. This I do not understand - maybe I have just become consumer lazy.

Give to others less fortunate but I hope our churches and agencies also teach.

No more United Way money | 1:48 p.m. Nov. 18, 2008
I too used to donate to groups such as the United Way. I agree with Wilkey on this. United Way has extra funds to pay millions for corrupt paper pushers.

Google "Gloria Pace King" and find out why she was paid more than $1.2 million a year as CEO of United Way of Central Carolina. Folks this is common for United Way and many other so called charities.

United Way has also been up at the Utah legislature with lobbyists promoting illegal immigration, with millions of dollars to burn, they do not need my money.

Call me what ever you want, but I will NOT donate to groups or so called charities that pay millions to their CEO's and to wealthy lobbyists to promote an agenda contrary to most US Citizens and LEGAL immigrants.

whoever you are up there - with your hate talk and complaints about charity - i hope that you do not pretend to be a christian. you are about as far away from the teachings of jesus christ as a person could possibly be.

there's a great part of the bible. it's called the new testament. you might want to open it up sometime. when you're done, turn off your hate radio station, get out of your house and find ways you can use your hands and your time to help someone less fortunate than yourself.
