What kind of article is this? Who in their right mind would print an article of
this nature the week of the state championship. Hurricane has had a great season
and we dont need anything to distract them from their goal. Those who organized
the petition and who supported it ought to feel ashamed but the past is the
past. If the coaching staff felt that they were in the wrong they would have
stepped down. Instead they put it behind them and moved on. Can we all please.

In response to your naivety, the first string offense was only in for ONE half
of all those games that you referred to us as "running up the score"
on. I personally think Coach Homer took them out too early, because it
psychologically conditioned the players to only play half the game and could
have actually come back to bite the Tigers when they had to play good opponents.
plus, the defense scored close to 1/3rd of our points each game. There's a
point where you have to draw the line between making sure your starters are
seeing enough reps to keep their performance up, and the point of "running
up the score," and any level-headed person, if given all the facts, would
agree that the coaches were definitely within their means by allowing these
final scores.
Snow Canyon, on the other hand, last year would leave starters in in the fourth quarter.
As an after thought, what kind of coach would tell their JV to stop beating up on an opponent's varsity. Its all part of growing the program.

i understand what youre saying. but when it's your coach and you see the
horrible things he and his wife had to go through it's not so easy to just
forget and move on. he and the staff were wrongfully accused and there is no
accountability for any wrongdoing by the organizers or the signers. yet to here
of someone apologizing to any of them for it. some of what the team has done
this year is motivated by those people and to prove them wrong. i guess in a way
you have helped disloyal fans of hhs. thank you.

Let's put the allegations to rest:
The alleged fight at the SCHS/HHS game? The coaches did not throw punches but words were exchanged because SC kept throwing deep when the game was in hand. While legal, it showed a lack of sportsmanship. The SCHS AD/asst. principal (Paul Hurt) came onto the field and threw a haymaker at the HHS coaches. That caused some pushing and shoving but no other punches were thrown.
Much has been made of difference in size of schools. The addition of Desert Hills HS has impacted the enrollments of Dixie and Pine View this year. This year, those two schools have enrollments of about 990. Snow Canyon's enrollmetn is about 1150. Hurricane's enrollment is 840. Prior to this year, the three 4A schools had enrollments had always been much higher (between 1150-1350) while Hurricane had been significantly lower (700-800) much like the Cedar schools.
The majority of their athletes remain at Dixie, Pine View, and Snow Canyon despite Desert Hills opening--a common occurrence. While these schools are temporarily down in size, their talent pool remained about the same. FYI: the three schools are projected to exceed 1000 next year and continue to grow.

You have to just laugh,these numbers come from the same people that said they
needed to build Desert Hills and that it would have 1400 their first year,but
still if you believe these numbers all these schools will be within 200 or so
students,isn't this even more of a argument to make everybody 3A,I got news
for ya guys, there is not going to be money to be sending the 4A kids back and
forth across the state to play a game,just remember figures lie and lairs
figure.

Okay people no offense to those calling for the coaches head but its quiet
apparent you do not know what your talking about. Building a program does not
happen overnight, it times, effort and commitment and i find it ludicrous that
many people believe that in one or two seasons the program will be turned
completely around. ITS NO THE CASE. Hurricane is a very good team this year
their only loss being agains a PV team that was 4th and 3 away from beating
Cottonwood and they would have beaten Dixie. Congrats to Hurricane and their
coaches for a great job. And in the future people get your facts straight

In that SC game last year they threw a long bomb with under a minute left when
the game had been over at halftime, Hurricane didn't throw the ball more
than 5 times in the second half in any of those games you listed. Get your story
stright you weren't on the feild to see what happened. Hurricane's
coach's have nothing but class. p.s. Coach Woodbury thanks for standing up
for not only the best coachs in high school football but the best men.

the fight was started becuase SC has a loose cannon as as a head football coach!
These good (yet not perfect) men have spent countless hours with these boys at
the end of the season it has probably cost them money to coach, and for them to
endure all that stuff last year and hold there heads up in this town they
deserve huge KUDOS and again please dont give yourselves the credit of this year
thinking it was because there was a change called for, however its about the
players and the good ones will play bottom line and every coach on that staff
will tell you that. Hurricane wants state titles but wants the coaches to play
the kids who can get them. the band wagon starts to get a little heavy on these
years but who is there on the off years>

Breaking News! Got news for you,there is not going to be enough money to bus
kids and pay for hotel rooms for the 4A teams to play the teams from up
north,remember its not just football,they have basketball,soccer etc. teams that
have to travel,so maybe the financial crisis will solve what the UHSAA and
school boards couldn't,it will be out of financial need that all teams in

I agree with coach Woody, those who signed the petition to stay home... you just bring us down. I've had sons involved with this coaching staff for 6 years. I wouldn't want any other coaches coaching my boys. Coach Homer, I've got your back. I'm still waiting for my fan of the year award. GO TIGERS!

Why there are individuals in H-Town who do not want to see anyone succeed unless
it is them. Over the years Hurricane has had some very successful Coaches pass
through its doors. Somehow 3 of the them have ended up in other Washington
County Schools. Two of those gentlemen have had a football venue and a baseball
field named after them.Could it be that others have beat them up so bad that
they left? I beleive that we all recognize there are those who have a desire to
relive their teenage high schools years through their children. Perhaps they
need to reevaluate what they are teaching and the example they are setting their
own child. It is time that we rally around Coach Homer, his staff. and these
wonderful young men and help them accomplish something that others have only
dreamed of. Good Luck Tigers we will be there to support you!

Hurricane is always complaining about the other Washington County schools being
bigger and that is supposedly one of the reasons they have not been able to
compete in the past. Now that they are one of the biggest 3A schools (833), and
going to play a school who's enrollment is (570), I just wonder if Juan
Diego will make some kind of excuse???
Oh, by the way, you need to watch the video of the SC/HHS game and you will see that the first physical contact came from DOTSON!!!!!! Get your facts straight before you slander people.

with no time that runs the score up. Get the facts straight. It was their Vice
Principal that took a swing at the Hurricane trainer and nothing happened to

True, Hurricane is larger than Juan Diego. But both are within the limits of 3A definitions.
Hurricane complained that it was forced to play in a region that forced 3 schools of 4A size into a 3A region. They didn't complain that they had to compete schools that were bigger in the 3A. Canyon View High had the same complaint. In fact, Hurricane High is almost exactly the size of the two Cedar schools.
The 3A class spans 500-999, which is a wide spread. This is due to the fact that there are natural gaps. Juan Diego and Judge are smaller in enrollment, but have a higher percentage of participants. They have as many athletes as schools with larger enrollments. Judge used to rule the 3A when there were only 4 classifications. The two Catholic schools compete for titles in 3A now in every sport.
