The picture at the right of this story is Danny Cepero, the young goalkeeping hero for the New York Red Bulls. Tough luck, RSL, maybe next year? Great crowd support, though, keep it up!
New York may be the luckiest team ever. Hitting the post 3 times in a big time game just sums it up. Great crowd, great action, just not our day. Great season and really looking forward to next year. We should have our strongest team ever. Let's win the western conference title next year.
It was great to stay and chant RSL for our team. Thank you for a great season. I wish this same group could take the field next year.
Well Kreis should feel pretty bad himself as he has managed to make what is arguably the best side in the league into a loser with his friend Mathis at his side. Mathis is certainly a cancer to the health of the team emotionally and tactically. Zero Goals - Zero Assists. He argues with his own players and has taken over Morales position. Without Mathis, RSL wins the MLS Cup easily this season. Thanks Kreis.
Nope not true. Mathis doesn't get the stats but he brings it. If you've ever defended you know how intimidating he is. I would rather defend against anyone else on the team than Mathis. Next year if he can keep getting in better shape he could really help us out. Yura was wildly incosistent this year, if he can get some consistency we could win it all next year. Also Rimando has to shoulder some of the blame. If anyone gets to him one on one we can just put the goal on the borad cuz he can't stop anyone. I pray we go to Seitz next year.
Others have deserved their spotlight, but Mathis has been outstanding in RSL's late season. What a fine player. The league is sorely lacking both Clint's technical ability and his intensity. His quality made a big difference and he most certainly helped put RSL up at the top of the heap.
Paul, If you are referring to the first 30 minutes of each game? then yes Mathis has been marginally effective, but to keep him in a match for 90 minutes is just plain poor coaching. He was completly out of gas in the second half of that match and should have been pulled. Were it not for the personal relationship he has with his coach, he would not even be considered to have been on this team. I watched the match again yesterday on FSC and really don't get it. Please tell me Paul how Jason can leave him in a game for 90 minutes?
Please Jason let him go!!!!!
Ummm...New York's goalie is Danny Cepero. Please make the correction.
Real has so much potenital. The thing i dont get is why we are still playing Mathis...He doesnt run to the ball, anymore he is just getting to old. WE need to start Findley or Willams from the very beginning. They both bring the energy to the field. They are such a threat every time one of them goes in the team gets many more chances at scoring...Take Mathis out and leave him on the bench
...let him go.
We can find a player at half his salary, and twice his dedication and desire.
