Good luck next week and Beat em...
Watson | 1:03 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Watson, on ESPN, stated that the Cougars took the high road by not talking about the Ute game. Stupid comment. That makes it sound as though Utah is mud-slinging and BYU is declining comment. She's also smugly attributed by Harmon as saying she knew Bronco wouldn't talk about it. No one likes a no it all...and no one likes someone who doesn't know much either...which is about how I've viewed her writing for ESPN this year. Granted, she does cover nearly half of college football teams, but she's had love affairs with certain teams and can't seem to get beyond those at certain points.

Well done cougars! Go BYU
Defense no better | 7:46 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
If the BYU defense gives Utah that many points they are going to lose the game. Should be interesting. It is the battle of two coaches who have a ego that would fill both stadiums. I like the Y but the way they are playing the smart money has to be on Utah. Mendenhall wants to take a tradition of Utah/BYU week that is older than he is and disregard it. Oh well, what else is new.
GCF | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Watson...your bias is showing...petty comments that reflect a Utah "leaning"...why sling mud at the ESPN reporter...grow up...in reality, when all is said and done, one will win, one will lose, and a few years downstream, it won't matter...but the rest of life will...
Eugene | 8:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Great game, lousy TV access so I couldn't watch it. No big deal since it will be tape delay on the Mountain Tuesday afternoon.

Don't talk trash, Cougs, since it will be all the sweeter to march into Rice-Eccles Stadium, hand the Uters their first loss and go home to Provo as co-MWC Champions. Sure we'd like a do-over for the TCU game, but be proud of this great year nonetheless!
Uh oh! | 8:10 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I think I see John Beck crying on the sidelines. No, it's Maxie!
Dave N. | 8:17 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU matches up well with AFA and should have won this game. Next week will be a different matter. For BYU to win they have to do one thing well....Run the ball and have long drives! Utah's defense is fast, but their weakness is that they can be run on. If the Y can run and win the time of possession, they will keep their defense off the field.
Kent | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
The "Mountain" tv "network" continues to be a bad idea!

How can their picture be as bad as their on-air "talent"???

The Mountain's bush league analysts and "in studio host" need to be completely changed.
Re Dave N. | 9:27 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Are you kidding? They can be run on? They have the number 11 ranked rush defense in the nation. You wont run at all.

Go Utes
wm | 9:37 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Quit whinning about the mountain network. As long as you can see the game instead of paying from 500 to 1000 dollar a seat. Now I gave you somthing else to complain about.
Crying? | 10:07 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Nothing like those big red Ute tears coursing down the cheeks of Coach Whit after Harline's big catch.

Wait a minute. What am I thinking? I love the idea that my team and my coach are so invested in a game that it hurts to lose.

Carry on with all the emotion and grit it takes to play this game. Give everything you have until there's nothing left but tears--of victory or defeat.
chester | 10:12 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU will win again. Utah has a great defense but they haven't faced such a dominant offense in BYU. Even if Pitta isn't healthy, Friel can step in and contribute in a positive way. Our defense is playing better. On paper, the Utes defense seems a lot better than the Cougars but the game will be played at 4pm at Lavell Edwards North Stadium which is advantageous to the team down south in recent years. BTW, do the Utes still have Y logos in their locker rooms? And the hours-to minutes-to seconds countdown of when they play the team from down south next? How pathetic! It truly is the only game they think about all year and that's why BYU has won 20 conference titles compared to the Utes handful. Neverthless, this should be an outstanding game pitted between two very good teams with some great players. The most notable one is undoubtedly Austin Collie so Utah should pray that he enters the draft this year. BYU wins 31-30 in a battle for a share of the conference title which is always the most important thing in league play and that's why we've dominated Utah in past.
Murphy | 10:28 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU has the better offense, Utah has the better defense. You could say that the Y has the better team, but Utah has better players. The X-factor is the one-man wrecking crew, Louie Sakoda. There are four games that the Utes would have lost this year had they been using an average kicker. Sakoda has single-handedly placed the Utes where they are. I want the Y to win, but I think Sakoda will win it for the Utes like he has all season.
Ute Alum | 11:01 a.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I agree with Kent, the Mtn network is horrible and were did they get those in studio commentators? Watching the game on my beautiful 50" plasma tv kept making me think I needed to make that appointment with the Eye Doc. The guys in the studio need some serious wardrobe work -who wears a gray suit and a black tie? Perhaps it's because he played for AF and it was his funeral attire.
Go Utes.
bigutefan | 1:15 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
And on the eleventh week of the 2008 college football season, byu beat a team with a winning record, wow!
10 win seasons | 1:51 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU has 14 - 10 win (or more) season.
the next closest team in the Mountain West has 4. Utah has 3 (I think they said).

And BYU has won two in a row.

Utah has had a great season. BYU has a proud tradition and a national title.

Did I mention we have won two in a row?

Smack on.
Past is just that | 2:06 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
It doesn't matter that TDS has won the last 2 years. It doesn't matter what happened in 1984 (before most of the players were born). This is 2008 Koogs and you will be exposed like you were at TCU. Can't spell Mendenhall without at least 2 "l's"
UTE FAN FOR LIFE | 2:16 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
BYU must be perfect or something. Ute fans therfore must all be sinners. YUCK! This article is typical BYU I am better than everybody else because I go to BYU article. As a memeber of the church this is why I can't stand BYU. BYU is an embarrassment and because of it I cannot talk about my faith and BYU in the same sentence when sharing the gospel. This arrogant quest for perfection that BYU has already ended with their loss to TCU. The Utes will go perfect. And BYU will than have bad things to say when they whine and cry.
re: Murphy | 2:20 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
You clearly don't remember last year's game. Sakoda had one FG, compared to BYU's 3. The guy did little for the team in last years guy. BYU has been good at blocking kicks. May it continue.
special teams | 2:28 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I agree that this game will more than likely come down to a sakoda kick! IF you take out the 04 season each game between these two teams has been decided by 7 points or less for as long as i can remember! Sakoda will come onto the field with 4 second left in the game to try and win it... the only problem with that... BYU has a nasty habit of blocking game winning field goals. BYU wins 35-34 with Collie catching a 35 yard TD reception late in the fourth to put the cougs on top for good
Larry H | 3:25 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Games like the upcoming BYU-UTAH game are usually predicted to be high scoring, but often wind up as defensive battles. I think the score will be 17-14, but I am not going to guess who will win!
re: Eugene | 3:59 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
That would be TRI-champions with TCU, as well.
RE:UTE FAN FOR LIFE | 4:36 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Please stay a UTE fan for life. Anybody who criticizes others for having goals has no concept of sports and goals. So what if BYU wanted to be perfect this season. They tried. They aren't. Yet you can't tell me that at some point the UTE's haven't adopted perfection as motivation for their season. Unfortunately, their quest will end, just like BYU's, on a late November afternoon.
BYU | 4:42 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Who shows up saturday? BYU's offense? or Utah's D? That will determine the game.
Rick78 | 4:51 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
I actually remember the pre-Lavell days and all the inbetween. I hope the Cougars win, If Utah wins then good for them I hope they get a great BCS game and and win it too. Sadly, if BYU wins, then both BYU and Utah will go to low end Bowls, but Guys, no matter what happens, both teams will go to Bowls and Both have had great years. This is a moment in History where both teams are ranked and doing it to other teams. I hope for another great finish to another classic contest. This is one you will remember for many years.
GO COUGARS!!
Conflicted Cougar | 5:28 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
As a BYU faithful, I naturally want the Cougars to take the heads off the Utes next Saturday.

But as a despiser of the Bull Crap System, I would very much like to see Utah (and Boise State, for that matter), send another strong message to the BCS that their days as a monopoly are numbered.

Go Utah Cougars! Er, BYU Utes!
Kiyoshige | 5:41 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Does anyone else but me think that BYU could end up in a BCS game if Boise St hiccups over the next two weeks (and, of course, and I'm just taking this as a given, we beat Utah...)
Sakoda? | 5:46 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
How much did he help you out last year vs. BYU? Id rather have Collie as my X factor
To: Boring UTE FAN | 6:31 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
The only thing more boring than someone who hangs on to the canard that Mormons think they are better than other people are Ute fans who think Cougars believe they are better than other people.

No we don't. We sin too. We try for perfection and come up short, just like everyone else. Can we now move on?

Please come up with something original.
OhioCoug | 6:59 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Thank you Collie!!!! I have thought for a very long time that the Cougs just don't seemed to get fired up enough for some of these big games especially against the Utes. Hope they can channel some of that emotion for next week. I'm glad we are the underdog in this one. I think that it helps take some of the pressure off. Leave it all on the field next week cougs!!!
SR Burton | 9:45 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
So much for stupid Utah and BYU fans. They act like naive little children. Because of your childish statements, they should toss you out on the practice field and use you for tackling fodder. Support your teams and let them bash it out on the field and may the best team win. And if, by chance, your team loses, then wish the best for the other school. In all honesty, some of the drivel that is spewed forth by these "immature" little dweebs makes me shake my head and wonder if Darwin wasn't right.
RE: Kiyoshige | 9:54 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Uh, no...
Anonymous | 10:19 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Who's the idiot that referenced John Beck crying? Have you not watched Kyle Whittingham and a host of other Ute players over the past years??
Basketball Fan | 10:26 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
How 'bout that Ute basketball team???

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Class Act Bronco! | 10:32 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
Bronco Mendenhall has to be the best statesman for any sport today. He sets standards and morals over the sport, speaks respectfully at all times about other teams, treats his players with respect, and plays a tough yet clean game every time.

They should call him into the NFL to help clean up the steroid mess. But for now the MWC is better off with him in it.

Way to go BYU, win or lose you have scored a huge moral victory!
CHAD | 10:51 p.m. Nov. 16, 2008
The BCS will have to put BYU once they beat Utah (ranked 7) and move up to #12 in the BCS. Boise State will lose to Nevada on Saturday. GO COUGS!!!
Jay | 9:06 p.m. Nov. 17, 2008
As a BYU alumn who otherwise never lived in Utah I can't understand the silly passion with this rivalry. No one outside Utah cares. Speaking of which, what is the "Mountain Network" thing? We used to watch BYU games outside Utah. Now they aren't available. Most BYU alumns don't live in Utah. Why did BYU limit itself to the small Mountain West market and conference? Hard to keep your alumni excited when they can't follow the team. Its also boring to read these small minded Utah centric rantings.

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall talks with the officials but certainly not about rivalry week during the Cougars' win over Air Force.
