Waste

What a waste of $. If he really is crazy, then he should be... locked up away from scoiety.

If he isn't crazy and just a sly sleeze ball, then he should be... locked up away from society.

I don't really see the need for endless court dates, lawyers and tens of thousands of tax payer dollars that could go towards something more beneficial. Oh wait, it's run by the government... no it's making sense!

Anonymous

Seems to me that he is mentally stable enough to know if he starts singing hymns the court will be postponed once again. Give me a break! He is probably more stable than most people! He needs to pay for what he did to Elizabeth Smart!

James

Well, at least no one was hurt.

Gordon S

Re: Waste comment. If he is found guilty by insanity he gets off when he is able to function normally. However, if he gets a term he must serve the sentence. People have rights in this country which makes us a great country. The money that circulates gives people jobs.

It's about time someone is doing something. It's unfortunate that it's now taking the feds to do what the state wouldn't. Why do we let heim postpone hearings just because he starts singing? The solution? Duct Tape!

How's 'e get there?

So, how are prisoners transported from one location to another?

I would guess that he will get his own private chauffeur out to LA or Springfield.

Could you imagine being assigned the last open seat on a plane and finding out that your seat-mate was Brian David Mitchell?

Victimization

The real victim here is Elizabeth Smart. She has a right to get on with her life, not having to worry about testifying at a forever upcoming trial.

If sending him to L.A. or MO will kick this proceeding back into gear -- go for it! But, I hope this proceeding is not being delayed one microsecond longer than is absolutely necessary to bring a just and final end to the process.

We owe it to Elizabeth.

Come on Gordon....this guy knows what he is doing and is causing all this 'waste of money' that you say is giving him his 'rights'. He has no rights. None of these child predators do. Number one they should all have to be castrated before any prison sentence. If you think that's shocking, was what he did to Elizabeth Smart not shocking? In this country now, the victims have no rights. But their abductors, killers, rapists? Oh yes. They all have their rights. Way too many of them. Enough already. He is a waste of money!

TexanUt

Where ever you take him please keep him! Iam sure most people in this state are sick and tired of his antics that are constantly on TV and the press.

ConAir

Dear "How's 'e get there"

Can you say "ConAir?" It's the only way to fly. No drinks, no peanuts, no bathroom breaks. Just you and your shackles. Heck, if he's lucky they'll cover his head, etc. to deal with the singing.....

oh crimeny!

He's going to be 106 years old before they try him for the kidnapping anyway. why don't the judges just grow some backbone and work through his stall tactics?

Skippy

Send him out of the state for evaluation. That way there is less of a chance to say the it was biased.

Re: Gordon

If he's convicted by insanity, he's locked in a psyche ward for the same duration as he would serve prison if he was just plane convicted. He doesn't "get off." If you've ever visited a psyche ward, it isn't exactly a place filled with kicks and giggles. If he isn't insane, he would be after spending out years in that place.

What's wrong with warehousing him. I say warehouse him.

Agree with saving money:

I'd rather be in jail than a state hospital, if he wants the insane way, let the ruling be insanity. Since he is to insane, that means he is dangerous to society, give him life in the hospital. He is locked up like a prisoner still.

At least he is singig LDS hymns and knows all the words! Most members who are sane would have difficulty remembering the words. Maybe he's watched too many cop shows? NYPD Blue,CSI-Miami,CSI-NYC,Law and Order,Bad Boys,Criminal Intent,Bones,SVU Crime Unit,Boys in Blue,Life,Criminal Minds,True Detective Stories,Cop Shop,True Blue etc etc.

How to cure this kidnapper

When my sister had a dog that annoyed the neighboors with its barking, she bought the dog a barking shock collar.

If I were the judge in this case, I would do the same thing for this kidnapper, every time he gets out of hand in any way, he would be shocked.

What do you wanna bet this would "cure" him.

Anonymous

Stick him general population in prison/jail. The inmates there will take care of him.

Shain Gillet

This thing has been going on for how long now? Anything to mention the Smart's name again. Good one "D" News.

one lawyer

Time for the lawyers to quit experimenting with how clever they can be and get down to the issue of why this guy believes he can act as god and then crucify him. He'll get his reward in heaven.
