but why are they still giving $40-60 million of taxpayer money to a private investor? For all this talk about "socialism," it seems alive and well in Sandy.

Remember who elected the council and mayor who are going to give a devloper 40-60 million, plus the usual cost overruns that average 30-40 percent. This should put the aggregate to at least 100 million through an increase on their property taxes in the great city of Sandy.....Make them put it out for a VOTE and watch it go down like a rock. I know this sounds like an odd idea asking how taxpayers(known in politicol circles as SUCKERS) want their money spent, but shucks for around 100,000,000.00 dollars why not?

John: It's not your money. It's the property tax from the property that the developer owns. Take and RDA 101 class.

I agree John, this should go for a vote. It's outlandish. And just look at all the people going to these outdoor sites in the winter with snow and ice.

Maybe if it does go through, a few falls could generate a few lawsuits.

I don't want my money spent for this monstrosity. And the way the economy is going, who is going to have the money to spend to buy things there?

No thanks, will still go to Wal Mart and Target, and rent DVDs.

b RDA means that the property will be taxed at its undeveloped rate for 25-30 years before a new rate kicks in, so it really is a public issue. That's also the case with Rio Tinto. So city and schools do without any tax increase there for all those years.

There is no increment being witheld on the Rio Tinto Stadium from the school District.

I guess the theater property could stay the way it is...keep the rates the same and no increase at all. That's a good plan.

Ah, I got excited for nothing. When I read the article title I thought "Great, Sandy is pulling out of the race to build a theater and so one won't be built there!!". But alas, it appears the project owner still wants/intends to build one in Sandy.

I thought that this would leave just Salt Lake City alone with the theater as it should be... downtown Salt Lake is where such a professional theater should be (not Sandy).

Well maybe the man will have a change of mind as well and drop out and not build it in Sandy. One can only hope.

Then it would be great if those seeking one in Salt Lake would scale it back from 2,400 seats (way too big, far bigger than those actually on Broadway in NYC) to somewhere between 1,800 and 2,000.
