Both BYU and UTah are overrated. BYU couldn't stand up against any other top 25 team this year and Utah has NEVER beaten a team that was in the top 15 at the time they played them, or who finished the season in the top 10. Never.

I hear lots of talk about beating 'big programs' but no one can refute my claim with an actual statistic/fact.

These other BSC schools play 10 games vs. opponents that BYU/Utah play maybe two times a season. No way does the rest of the MWC stack up to the #2+ teams in the PAC 10, ACC, Big 12, etc. I hope Utah does get invited to a BCS...so we can see them choke!!!

You people in Utah are in dreamland.
Scott | 5:39 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Duh Bronco, of course all the attention is on the Utes. EVERYONE in the nation knows UTAH is better than BYU. Utah got their number 1 pick of head coaches. BYU got second choice.

Cougar fans - get ready to be TOTALLY CRUSHED by the UTES!!!!
Clear Mechanism | 6:58 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Oops...wouldn't it be great if it were at LaVell Edwards Stadium. It's important that the game is in the Springs...if BYU beats Air Force, and that remains to be seen, that's why they play the games...it will be a precursor to the following weeks game of once again being on the road. The big cats have had the toughest schedule in the conference...TCU, Air Force and Utah all on the road. You have to love it...two tough games with everything on the line. I had a brother graduate from the Academy, two sons from the "Y" and a son from the "U" with a daughter still going to the "U" ...and I respect all these schools...it's going to be a couple great weeks!!!

RE: Scott | 7:40 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I think your putting a lot of stock in a shaky Ute team that probably won't crush BYU and for that matter has a very good chance of loosing to a "so called inferior team". With that attitude it will be sad to have your BCS hopes dashed by a lousy BYU Team. Time will tell who is the better team!
Anonymous | 7:44 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Get crushed by what offense? I didnt know Utah had an offense
Response to Overrated | 7:44 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
By #2+ teams in the Pac-10, do you mean Oregon State? The same team who may end up winning the Pac 10 and the same team that Utah beat? By the MWC not stacking up, are you talking about the 5-2 record against the Pac-10 this year, or maybe the penultimate team in the MWC (Wyoming) beating a SEC team on the road this past weekend? By Utah never beating a top 15 program, are you talking about #12 TCU just last week? What planet are you on?
We Don't Need Unga | 7:50 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Our offense is strong enough to beat Air Force with our second string players. I expect they'll be in by the end of the third quarter. As Utah struggled to beat Air Force, we'll prove our dominance again and show the rest of the league who the class of the MWC is.
We could only wish | 8:27 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
LaVell Edwards stadium will not be full for the Air Force game Saturday. In fact, the team won't even show up. It will, however, play at the Academy. We can only hope the Cougars play well enough to make that Colorado columnist eat his words.
Football Fan | 8:28 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Best team in MWC is TCU. Utah got a couple of breaks on missed field goals and took advantage of it. If that game is in Texas they lose by 2 touchdowns at the very least. TCU has to much speed and quickness for both Utah and BYU. I think the Utah BYU game is anyones to win. Both teams have their weakness, Utah offense and BYU defense. It will be interesting to see who overcomes. It should be a fun game to watch.
3 teams | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Utah throughout history has 3 victories against teams that finished in the top 15. BYU has 5. That could change this year for each team.
Hey Scott | 8:45 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
BYU got second choice of the head coaches. So far, hasn't that worked out wonderfully for the Cougs? Not so much for the Utes. We'll see what happens in 2 weeks for this year. I am really, really happy with the "second choice" and that you got first.
Didn't know Utah had an offense? | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
You didn't know that Utah averages about 33 points a game? You must live in "The Bubble" south of the point of the mountain.

To: overrated
The only team in the MWC that is overrated is the yewties with their 3 gimme wins.

To: scott
Bronco has a better overall record, in conference record and head to head record. Who do you think got the better deal?

To: We Don't Need Unga
Are you kidding me? The way the backups fumble the ball, I don't want anyone carrying the ball other than Fui or Collie if Unga is out. Air Force is disciplined and trained to knock the ball out. We definitely need Unga.

To Football Fan | 9:50 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Do you know how we all know Utah is better than TCU? The scoreboard. If my aunt had a beard she would be my uncle. But she doesn't. TCU scored fewer points than Utah. That's how football works. You can cry and moan about USC being better than Oregon State, but if OSU wins out they win the Pac-10. That's how football works. Utah, right now, is the best team in the MWC.
On the topic of Harvey | 9:57 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
The backup RB's have been very shaky. Without looking at the stats, I would guess that Latu and Diluigi each have 2 fumbles on less than 10 carriers. These guys have not protected the rock at all. I am sure this have been a big concern.
Scott | 9:59 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
2nd choice coach has worked for BYU short term, but this year is pivtol. Long term, Utah got the number 1 coach. Who cares about previous seasons, ancient history. All that counts now is the current season. Proof is the ranking so far, Utah is in the top ten, BYU IS NOT.... don't cry in two weeks when the UTES DESTROY BYU.... Predication - Utah 35 BYU 7....
Re:football fan | 10:23 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
How can you say TCU is the best team in the conference? Utah just beat them as you said.
Utah's Defense took them a quarter to adjust and after that it was lock down Defense for the entire remainder of the game.
If they play 10 times, Utah wins 8 times. Primarily because of their defense.
Question for everyone...If TCU and BYU play 10 times, how many wins does BYU get?
Overrated? | 10:24 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I think Utah has stood up very nicely against the top 25, with solid wins over TCU and Oregon State, the top team in the PAC-10.

Michigan was also in the Top 25 when they beat them.

People outside of Utah ought to support their own losing teams instead of wishing they were better than the Utes.
Re: Scott | 10:26 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Totally crushed? As in 13-10?
What was he thinking? | 10:26 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Why did Harvey put on 20 pounds this year? I swear that's what the problem is. He was a good back last year, he should have been more focused on his speed, not his size.
Go Ramsey, Go!!! | 10:35 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Big kudos to David Ramsey from the Gazzette! Please give our guys more great quotes to put on their lockers! More motivation, lots more!! Now if we could only get the AFA players and coaches to do the same thing, but dang it they're too smart for that I'm afraid...
Re: We don't need Unga | 10:42 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Are you kidding about being the class of the MWC? You barely beat UNLV and Colorado State, two horrible teams, at the end of the game. You guys are toast against Utah that's for sure.

Go HornFrogs!
Mike Johnson Fallon NV | 10:43 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
This should be about Unga--the leading rusher in all nine of BYU's games and a decent receiver. If Unga is out, that will hurt the Cougars, who now needs someone else to rise to the challenge. Remember, Max Hall was the second leading rusher in the game against San Diego State. Of course, as long as Collie is catching passes, BYU has a chance.
Utah vs. BYU | 10:47 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
BYU was off to a solid start, but since being blown out and embarassed by TCU has yet to recover. Towards the end of the season, it's the teams who are actually getting better who win the games. BYU has gotten worse. Barely beating UNLV and Colorado State is an example of this...and at the end of the game! With Unga hurt they are in even worse shape. Their team is breaking down, and internally they are having issues as a team. Utah will beat them, because they are getting better and have a better D. Their problem is their OC Ludwig has turd for brains

FYI Utah averages 33 points a game, giving up just 17, where BYU averages 36 and gives up 18
Better Coach? | 10:48 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Things that matter MOST to fans;

MWC Championships:

Bronco 2, Kyle 0

finishes in the top 25 rankings:

Bronco 2, Kyle 0

Defeat their rival:

Bronco 2 Kyle 1

Overall record since becoming head coach:

Bronco 37-11 Kyle 34-14

*So far, Bronco is winning in every category. I've got nothing against Kyle, but how is he the better coach?

Overrated is most likely a bent Pac-10 fan!
Rest Unga! | 10:51 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
BYU should sit Unga for the AFA game. You could tell that he wasn't right during the CSU game and then against SDSU he was out again. He needs to rest up, get better and see if he can go for the U game and a possible bowl. Take care of him, don't rush it, and do it right. BYU should be okay in AFA without him. Why risk further injury or further aggravation? Take the time, do it right, and let him heal up.
Blue Chelan 56 | 10:56 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Harvey Unga is battered and bruised because the offensive line do not run-block well at all. Just use your HDreceiver and break down the technigue used or attempted during run plays and see for yourself. If BYU beats Airforce and Utah it will come by the controlled pass game of BYU,not by the run. Lets hope I am wrong. Each week I say," I hope I am wrong!! But, no, I don't think so. Gooo Cougs.
RE: Stadium Movers | 11:08 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
LaVell Edwards Stadium is listed due to the way BYU will crush Air Force this week, it's going to feel like a home game!

Will Bronco have trouble recruiting now with Prop 8 defeat?
Harvey Unga | 11:28 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
My main concern is if Unga is day to day for Saturday does that mean he will not play his intramural game on Wednesday? I really hope he can fit that in!!!

Prediction...for what it's worth.....BYU scores 17 points at RES against Utah's D. If Utah can score more than that against the tds banged up d, they win! Go Utes!

Obnoxious Ute fans get off of this blog when you can make some sense. I am not even sure you are better than us because you have lived on the edge all year just like we have. You were not the better team on Thursday. Your just lucky they did'nt have a kicker. They were better than you in all area's of the game, and yes they are the best team in the Mtn. West TCU.Your time is coming whether it be on the 22nd or BCS game your going to get toasted. REALITY CHECK!!
Scott | 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Agreed, forget about Air Force, they are easy.... Need to rest Unga so he will be 100% against Utah. Utes don't want Cougars to have a whiny excuse after Utah CRUSHES BYU...

Re: Better Coach | 1:44 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
You forgot one category:

Classless: Kyle 1 - Bronco - 0

The dreaded onside kick against Wyoming after being up 40-0.

Steve B | 2:38 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Hey overrated: Utah doesn't play teams who finish in the top 10 because we always beat them in the bowl games. Our bowl record against the big bad teams outside the MWC speaks for itself. I loved Tennesse's coach saying that their conference bottom team could beat our top team, and then they go and lose to Wyoming. You Eastern teams are so overrated. Bring it on. You're just afraid to play Utah. And Wyoming beat Ohio. How lame are those teams. Notre Dame beat San Diego State 21 to 13 this year. New Mexico beat them 70 to 7. How weak is Notre Dame, how strong is New Mexico?
RR | 3:00 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Wow, Air Force is really improving. They've only lost to two teams by about a TD. They now have a decent passing attack. They are a decent team, and underrated. This is a scary game. We should save Unga for the next week. We'll need him then. Can't wait to see him dragging 4 utes around with him everywhere he goes!
actually 1/2 weeks | 3:19 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Prediction (with stats to back it up)....We all know that the Utes can stop the run, but can they stop the pass?

Air force scored 23 (Over 2/3 of their yards coming from only 13 pass plays) to make it a close game!

Web State threw 303 yards on them and had all 3 touchdowns through the air to put 21 points on them.

Oregon State threw 313 yards on them with 2 passing touchdowns and a total of 28 points!

Oregon State ranks 23rd in Pass offense. BYU ranks 8th and averages 314 passing yards a game. If the 3 previous teams could move the ball and score at least 20 points on the Utes, how is a superior passing team like BYU only going to score 17? Prediction is that BYU will score at least as much as Oregon State, whether the Ute offense can score more than 28 will be the real question.

Sew manee uv ewe sho how intellajent ewe ar buy the weigh ewe spell and right.

Goodness. You "lose" a game, not "loose" it. You rarely cheer for a losing team, let alone loosing. BYU beating Utah "too", will make more than "two" in a row, and that streak is about "to" continue.

So don't get "your" hopes up because "you're" going to "lose" "to" BYU on November 22.

You also rarely want to go to Las Vegas and make a "predication" because people won't take you seriously, but you might want to back up your "prediction" with your money, unless you don't think your team will win.

Finally, there are players who think their incredible talent is that they're too good for us and a gift for the world to see, and then we don't hear much about them, aka Brent Casteel for Heisman. Go Cougars. Phan predication = B 28 U 24
re acutally 1/2 weeks | 4:27 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I think you have a good point. Being a Y fan it kills me to say this but we need to remember when Hall gets pressured he folds. Fumbles, bad passes, etc... We need to focus on our O line a lot...
Travis | 4:28 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Hey Utes. Remember when you had an awesome coach for a little bit. Yeah, the one that ditched you. Well, back then you beat us (we had a losing year) by 3 points. You'll probably do the same this year as it will be another pitiful game decided by who has the better kicker.
Next year you won't get the 3 gimme wins again (yes BYU got 1 too), but look on the bright side, you WILL have a better qb than Johnson....He's a loser.
Either way, it will be awesome to watch a decent Ute team that doesn't depend on their kicker to make more than half of their points. Totally Pitiful.

BYU's defense is struggling. I am a byu fan and i hope they beat utah but obviously i realize we can lose. But i do think utah will have a tough time winning a bcs game. i think tcu was the best bet for that. i don't take anything away from utah though. they've won all of there games so congrats.
