is the university of phoenix owned by the lds church? i didn't think it was. does anybody know? please back up your facts.
No, the UofP isn't owned by the mormon church. What has happened is that a lot of Mormons got into UofP management. Then, those managers gave preferential treatment to other mormons in hiring, promoting, and perks.
It's ugly, but I've seen Mormons do it before in other places I've worked. Mormons are not unique to this repulsive and illegal favoritism, but they certainly do it thoroughly.
I met someone who was amazed that I was a mormon "because I seem so honest." That's a direct quote. He'd worked for a majority-mormon company before, and been passed over for every promotion, same as this. As I've said, I've seen it happen all too often.
It's bad, especially considering the mormon push for converts. These kinds of experiences really turn people away from investigating the church. If the prophets are right, these managers at UofP will be held accountable for the loss of potential converts in the final judgement. I wouldn't want to be them.

It's not owned by the LDS church. Todd Nelson is the CEO of apollo group, parent company to University of Phoenix is mormon. he took over in 2001 - and recruited a mostly mormon staff from Utah. he continued to promote his mormon staff over non-mormon staff and it continued to trickle down. Trust me - I used to work for UOP and in the For-profit education industry. That whole industry has heavy mormon population.
To answer your question - the federal judge found the facts to be overwhelming which is why UOP lost the case.

This practice is alive and well at UOP. The settlement will only make it more difficult to catch them again. They are still operating this way!
I am not mormon and I was the lead case in the litigation. The original four of us had 100-200 leads taken from our lead base and given to mormons and UOP refused to address the issue. That is why we had to go to EEOC to try to get justice because this affected our income. I told the EEOC this was not about the LDS religion nor mormons in general but only this group of managers who were discriminating. I had many mormon co-workers I considered friends and several told me this problem was not right and not reflective of the LDS church and I know it wasn't. Other religeous groups do the same thing and are equally guilty. It is unfortunate that some people will use this to attack mormons in general and the LDS church. Other than the group of managers who discriminated UOP which is not a mormon company bears the blame for failing to address the problem and allowing it to go this far. Your comments above are a good witness to your character and your commitment to your faith. Every church has problem members but it is not reflective of their beliefs just them.
University of phoenix is the worst choice I ever made. They have caused us to be in total starvation while they are sitting there taking all of my money.
