There are those clamoring for a Big Twelve - SEC showdown in the title game, and if both leagues produce undefeated teams, maybe so. If they don't, then Utah deserves a shot if it gets past BYU. Here's why:
To be undefeated Utah will have defeated 2 top 25 teams and one that should be top 25: TCU, BYU and Oregon State (They beat USC and lost to Stanford in their opener, Penn State in their second game, and Utah - all three losses on the road).
Most of the teams with one loss suffered that loss at the hands of a supposedly vastly inferior team, or at least to a non-contender: Penn State lost to Iowa, USC to Oregon State (who Utah beat), Florida to Mississippi. Who is to say that in a legitimate world with a legitimate system, Utah wouldn't beat a supposedly vastly superior team. I say, if two teams are left undefeated, and one of them is Utah, Utah should get the shot.
Oh, and if Florida beats Alabama and is the SEC title winner and Urban Meyer doesn't agree, then he isn't just a carpet-bagger, he's a hypocrite. His undefeated Utah team produced the number one draft pick, and he took players from that team to help build his championship team at Florida, so surely he can't say "we are better and have better talent." If you were better, Urban, you wouldn't lose to a team in the middle of your league.
When the NCAA wises up and has a playoff, then one, two, three or four loss conference champions will ALL get their shot. Until then, Utah has a legitimate claim.
