I am very much glad "they" are not coming...
You have got to be kidding, I'm suppost to give up skiing the best powder on earth, because guys or gals cannot be "married" to the same sex. I say take your civil unions or what ever and stay out of my life.
I find it interesting that gay right activists can speak out all they want to defend their position. But Christians can't speak out to defend their positions in the gay activists eyes. Freedom of speech only works on way, their way. America is about being able to vote for what you want. Evidently Californians didn't want gay marriages to be legal. I know for a fact that there are not enough Mormons living in California to have outvoted the gay activists. If you want to place blame, place it on all Californians who voted you down. This is all for publicity trying to blame "just" the Mormons. Every Christian in California voted this down.
Did anyone stop and think that even if the Church is forced to pay taxes, it would still function normally?
In any case, if the Church must now pay taxes, it will also be free to endorse candidates (although that would be unlikely) and push legislation even more than it does now.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, protestors.
Gosh, I was sorta hoping the gay community would boycott the 52% of voters who voted "Yes on Prop 8" by leaving the state of California. That would sure teach the majority of the electorate not to exercise their right to protect marriage.
Bigots! Why aren't they boycotting the California tourism industry? California is the state whose residents voted on the proposition. Utahs didn't vote.
I don't understand how Mormons "stole their right away." There was no voter coercion going on, it was very democratic. Can anybody point out anything not democratic in the process? Seems like the gay-marriage movement wants a scapegoat.
I was opposed to Prop 8 but it's a California issue and not a Utah issue. This state should not be punished for what the California voters ultimatley decided not Utah voters. If they want to boycott things directly associated with the LDS church, that is their perogative but to try to boycott our state only shows their bigotry on their side by pigeon holeing the entire state. Their position just lost a lot of respect from someone who was against Prop 8.
First, I would like to thank all of the Catholics who have stood with us on this issue.
I find it rather pathetic that all the gay rights groups are blaming the will of the people of california on the Mormons. Or that a church has no right to HELP organize an effort by its members to defeat something it is against.
Boycotting Utah, go ahead more light fluffy power for the rest of us. And Sundance, does anyone think that boycotting Sundance in anyway hurts the church or in anyway sends a message.
Such efforts will be fruitless, half the country agrees with the church on this issue and less than half don't. Even if there was some sort of a boycott of the 40% of Americans who support gay marrage how may have any sort of travel plans to Utah that they are willing to change. Such a boycott will have no meaning as there will not be enough motiviated people to make a difference.
The Couples that were married should have known that this issue would come back and that mear judicial activism wasn't going to seal the deal.
Get over it accept the will of voters
Re: Kim Farah's remarks. Oh Please.... You poke your religious values & nose into other peoples lives and do it by influencing the poles and then you say it's wrong to target the LDS chruc for being part of the democratic process? Oh Please...
What were you expecting? If the LDS church used their influence to get Prop 8 to pass then the LDS church was involved in the democratic process and deserves to get the attention it is getting.
Keep your religious church values in YOUR church. If you influence then we in turn have a right to influence right back.
What were you thinking????
These gay activists need to take a lesson from their own signs: STOP THE HATE! Then they should take a message from democracy: THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! Be grateful that our country operates that way.
Utah didn't vote for this thing, Californian's did. Most Utahns didn't donate to Prop 8. The LDS Church as an organization didn't donate to it. Some LDS Californians donated to pass it. 10.8 million people voted on this issue. There are only 750,000 baptized LDS in California and many aren't of voting age (children under 18 yrs but older than 8 yrs). Maybe there were 400,000 eligible LDS voters in CA and not all of them voted. So please stop blaming the LDS church for passing Prop 8.
California has now voted twice to protect marriage.
If Utahns or Mormons were that influential, Mitt Romney would be the next president.
And the problem is? Do they ever think that maybe thier actions, behavior we don't want!!! Sorry I forgot it is all about them....
Good, let them boycott! That means the ski slopes will be less crowded, better for me, this winter. It also means there will be fewer backpackers to run into in color country in the summer, again, good for me. How can we go wrong with this?
This is an irresponsible article. Just because an online blog says "let's boycott utah" doesn't mean that anything close to that will happen.
Yay! Utah was mentioned on a popular website, lets write an article about it in the local newspaper.
Lame. No one with half a brain will boycott utah. It's clear "Utahns" had nothing to do with it. Even if the LDS church did, (Apple donated money as well) they don't represent Utah, and especially don't represent the sundance film festival.
Where is Rocky Anderson now that the gays in California need him? The two areas that would be hurt the most in a boycott would be Salt Lake and Park City, the two most liberal parts of the State. If only Rocky could go to California and explain this, those opposed to Prop 8 and wanting a boycott of Utah would completely understand (I'm sure).
What the protestors need to understand is that Prop 8 was not an anti-gay initiative, nor is it just a "Religious" issue. They mistakenly have turned this into a gay-hate issue. It is each individual's right to support the definition of marriage as, "A union between a man and a women" just as it is each individual's right to disagree.
California has now voted on this Issue twice and the free election process has taken it's course. Do the protestors really think they are going to change people's minds by throwing a tantrum?
Last time I checked tolerance was a two-way street. I guess the gay community can not accept my position and the only way is their way.
They are twisting this and making me out to be a hate-monger. This is simply not true. I expect gays to have equal legal rights but I do not support the redefinition of marriage, especially as it harms children.
They argue for gay rights and I argue for the rights of children to have a mother and a father.
About as effective as boycotting Italy because the Catholic Church opposed prop 8. Get a grip...
Hard core religous conservities from UTAH will never get it. You just can't understand how your influence to limit the "proposed" rights of others could be wrong, since their "proposed" rights don't fit along with the beliefs of your "church".
It's so simple yet you just don't get it.
Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
If you push legislation to limit the "rights" (proposed or otherwise) of others...of course they are going to be upset and attack you back.
What right do you have to "control" the way they want to live? Because you are LDS??? That gives you the right to say "I'm right...your wrong"???
Judge not that yea be not judged, so as yea judge, so shall you be judged.
If you don't get IT....in the end, you will get what is coming to you and by your own hand as is taught in your own BofM.
Stop trying to tell others how to live their lives. Be it drinking, what they do on sunday or regardless of their lifestyle. Mind your own business. You stay in church and we promise to stay out of church!!!
. . . . not mentioned that they are not boycotting Arizona, Florida and other states that have passed similar measures.
