How ironic that these attacks creating shattered glass coincided exactly 70 years later on the anniversary of Krystal Nacht, Nov 9, 1938 in pre-war Germany.

I'm LDS, very active in California and this action of vandalism actually is a 'hate crime'. These problems didn't exists until after Prop. 8 passed. These gay rights activists have some serious mental problems and need to get over it. They have all of their rights like any domestic partner. They probably don't read the Bible where it states that marriage is between a man and a woman. It wasn't "Adam and Steve", but "Adam and Eve". Get over it and straighten out your life. We're all sick of you whining! Get your life "straighten out" and I can promise you, you'll be much happier than living in the sinful state you're in right now!

It seems to me that those who scream INTOLERANCE also embrace TYRANNY. All of our beliefs and freedoms would vanish under the banner of being TOLERANT if we don't stand up for them. Let the Legislative bodies work to find another name for same-sex unions. It can have the same legal weight and responsibilities as heterosexual marriages do. Just don't use the word MARRIAGE.

Hey Gay and Lesbian Community | 8:51 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Let's see if the Gay and Lesbian community can do something positive. If the vandalism is from the Prop 8 results then police your own and turn in your own. Do some investigative work and turn in the guilty person or persons. This would get you alot of mileage. It is obvious it was done by your kind. It is also obvious that you will do nothing.

I guess its not a hate crime if it happens to Mormons
Hollywood | 9:41 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Of course it's not a "Hate Crime." Only whites can hate blacks, not the reverse.

Actually if it was a bb-gun that did the damage, I doubt it was more than just some neighborhood kids shooting out windows.
Hating Mormons is ok? | 9:46 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Where's the FBI, the ACLU and anyone else that would be investigating acts of vandalism and hate against Jewish synogogues or a Catholic shrine? And why are gays and lesbians allowed to do break laws like they have in the past week and get away with it?

I didn't vote AGAINST gay marriage, I voted FOR marriage between a man and a woman. When people vote they aren't going to the polls to vote against something, they are going to vote for their cause. Did you vote for Obama because you were for him or did you vote for him because you were against McCain? Why do we even vote anyway? We have passed this measure twice and the losing side is telling us thats not what we really wanted so they aren't gonna let it go. Crazy
Don't Blame All of Us | 10:50 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Dear LDS folks.
I feel bad that someone is doing this to your chapels, but don't make it sound like this is a coordinated terrorist action by militant gays.

If we were going to do something to your chapels it's more likely we would break in and redecorate, fix your wretched lighting, and toss around some throw pillows on those appalling stadium bleachers you call chairs.

Seriously would it kill you to invest some tithing money on a paint swatch book
Re: Hey Gay and Lesbian Communit | 11:03 a.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Yes, it is completely obvious that it was done by someone from the gay community, completely obvious, I mean there is indisputable evidence that it was one of them. And yes, there is such a big gay conspiracy against "the church" that they won't be turning anyone in because, you know, the gay community completely planned out this whole thing. That was a pretty ridiculous comment, guy.

Lets see now, Minnesota' Temple set on fire,Police investigate, No hate crime. A LDS Stake center in Mesa, Arizona burned to the ground, police investigate, no hate Crime. Proposition 8 passes in California with the help of some of it's citizens, who happen to be LDS, it's the LDS Church's fault. LDS Churches and Temples attacked as Police standby and watch; no hate crime.

A majority Black Folks in California vote yes to Proposition, given a pass no black Churches vandalized, political correctness prevails here. Pastor Rick Warren;s Saddleback Church was an object of Gay derision and protest; Fox News' Bill Oreilly's show chooses to acknowledges this incident, all the while apparently Fox News chose to ignore the demonstrations and vandalism against LDS Property across the state and in Utah. Mitt Romney soundly trashed and vilified during his campaign for POTUS, because faith.

All this from a Country whose people believe in freedoms of speech and Religion, just so long as the religion one happens to belong to isn't Mormon.

The world wide foot print of the church is such that these types of things occur daily in some part of globe. The church has always been a target. I used to live in Layton many years ago (Michigan now) and I'm familiar with those buildings. We all know there are plenty of members who would be willing to keep their eye on preventing more of the same, but I doubt those buildings will be attacked again. When you do find the kids that did the damage, make sure they pay for their actions.Sounds like kids stuff to me.
Stats | 12:36 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I understand that the Mormon church may not be considered completely responsible for the fervent support of Prop 8, but here's a fact that this newspaper didn't mention:

The Mormon church in California raised over 20 million dollars to support and advertise Prop 8 across the state, which is more than the Christian/Catholic churches did combined.
It can also be noted that two other states permit Gay marriage, and quite a few others permit Gay couples the same rights. It's only in California, a state so close to the Mormon belt, where there is this much opposition to these civil rights.

I am certainly not condoning the actions of whoever vandalized these churches, or saying that it is indeed connected. This is a controversial subject, and I wish it could be dealt with more civilly. I do believe it's a hate crime (if it is connected to Prop 8) because attacking the Mormon church on the whole is just blind bigotry towards a whole group of people that may or may not have had anything to do with Prop 8.
There are legal, mature and intelligent ways of protesting this kind of action.
I Hate "Hate" Crimes | 12:50 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I'm LDS, and I can't believe that someone of my faith would use the "hate crime" card. I can't even believe that there is such a crime as a "hate" crime. I really don't care what motivates someone to commit a crime; rather, I'm offended that the crime itself has taken place. My opinion: equal protection for all. A crime is a crime, and a victim's a victim.
rattler | 1:01 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
For those who wondered if "Hate Crime" is redundant...think about this. There is always a motive for crime, greed, desire, etc. When the primary motive is hate, then it's a "Hate Crime".
Anonymous | 1:32 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
"how come no one is doing this to the other churches and groups that supported prop 8?"

Are you kidding? Why would we want them to? I would prefer that we weren't belligerently targeted for lawfully participating in the democratic process and voting our conscience. But since it obviously is happening--even if this incident ultimately proves unrelated--I for one am grateful at least that the other faiths that stood with us haven't come in for the same aggression towards their facilities.

I'm glad to hear that no evidence yet points to the gay community. That would just be another sad deplorable display from their ranks.

O course its the gays!!! Why dont they go yell at the African Americans 70% of them wanted Prop. 8 passed, or the Catholics go yell at them. Heaven forbid marriage and children should be sacred!

Forget terrorism, crooked financial executives, global warming or scandalous politicians. The greatest single damage to our country and our society is unfolding before our eyes. Yes, I'm speaking of gay marriage and gay rights. On the surface it seems innocent, harmless, even admirable. The idea of two people loving one another and living peaceful, responsible lives. "What's wrong with that?" they say. What's wrong is it destroys the very fabric of our human society, the natural union between a man and a woman to create another human being. Nothing in science can describe, nor duplicate it. It is nature at it's purest form. To the contrary, the gay life is the direct opposite, no matter how innocent or harmless it seems. This problem is growing and will become our biggest downfall. Give it 20, 30 years and we'll begin to see the impact of this. Beyond what people do behind closed doors, making it legal opens up all of our children to being exposed and taught this lifestyle that I, and so many passionately oppose. It isn't hate, it is preservation of something right and natural.
Why? | 5:50 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I have only one question: If the Mormons are the "bad guys" in this issue, standing in the way of people's "rights", how come no one is vandalizing gay bars?

shame on the hatemongers. I hope they are caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Such disrespect and hatefulness should not go unpunished. How said they have nothing better to do in their empty lives than desecrate the Holy House of the Lord.
CB | 7:09 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
Slugger put one over the fence! You don't have to wait 20 or 30 years, just check out what has happened in Massachusetts since 'gays' were given their 'marriage rights' by a renegade court.
Justice! | 7:39 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
One of the reasons I have to intellectualy believe in God is because of the principle of justice! Without justice there can no such thing as "bad" behavior or "good" behavior. In order for life to make any sense at all for me, I have to believe there is meaning for our behaviors and choices! The only way there can be meaning is if there are consequences. There in comes justice! We will all stand before a just God who will ultimately meet out justice; rewards and punishments. I therefore must search my soul and conclude vandalizing sacred property for any reason will eventually bring the justice of a just God. In other words, they won't really get away with it! They will answer for their actions, just like we all will. I want my actions therefore to be correct in every area, especially and including family values.
Justice for all | 9:47 p.m. Nov. 11, 2008
I guess I have a question for all you bloggers. How do you know this damage was done by a gay person or gay supporter? I would like to see the evidence. I am not gay I am just interested in knowing why many suspect this is done by gays. Before Prop 8 chaples and meetinghouses were getting damaged and grafitti on them. Has it always been done by gays for the past many years? I think it is possible that this damage may be getting caused by just stupid individuals who don't have a grudge, just empty heads with no brains.
leftUT | 3:13 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Although I thoroughly disagree with any violent methods used against another group, I do believe neither side is innocent in this matter. To say mormons did not make a difference is brain washing and ignorance at its best. Your people donated over 10 million dollars to a massive ad campaign promoted and encouraged by a non profit religious organization. Your church should loose its non profit status and all its properties be taxed. However that being said I do believe that destroying private property is both cowardly and inconsistent with our constitutional rights of free speech.
