I heard recently that, on average, every American wastes a third of a ton of food per year, about a pound of food per day. I always feel horribly guilty throwing out old leftovers, thinking of those brothers and sisters of mine in underdeveloped countries scrounging in garbage heaps for a few scraps to eat.
We Americans need to change our ways and stop being so wasteful!
