Conservative numbers

Actually the number is closer to 40 when you count all the technicians and support people it was also pretty crummy to learn late friday about the cuts and it was done poorly and without compassion. it was also known wednesday and dropped on a lot of people late friday. we were told it was so by monday it would be old news and not get much attention. this could be the first of many cuts. things are not going well and not having many local games is also hurting the bottom line

Go Jazz

DOes this mean that the Jazz Games will not be broadcasted on KJZZ any mor ? I f any one knows let me know. Tha Sucks

Whatever works

What about Kjzz news at 9:00 with the 2 news crew willthat be on or off? the air

l

I'm pretty sure the Jazz games will be about the last thing they ever cut. That's most of the reason the channel exists.

Don't Panic

The shows were cancelled because they were lame and nobody was watching..... rest assured the Jazz games don't have that problem. KJAZZ is doing a great job with local sports and syndicated shows. They will be managed properly and be around for the long haul.

Jazz Fan

I have an idea to get viewers to watch KJAZZ....lets try putting more than 13 Jazz games on it.

Layoffs stink

I've been through two, but if there's one thing even I know, it's that sub-par performance leads to layoffs. No matter the industry, if you're doing a poor job then you'll be gone.

Anyone consider on applying for a federal bailout?
If the big three automakers make cars that no one wants and they end losing money there is always the government to bail them out. So why not bail out the show if it wasn't a money maker?

to I

Uh, most of the Jazz games are cut from KJZZ. They are on FSN.

Jazz Games

It is true that many games were cut from this year's KJZZ scedule and moved to FSN and that many more will be moved next season. But this does not hurt the LHM Sports and Entertainment group's bottom line because the Jazz Production crew still produces those games and FSN Utah pays them a lot of money for the privelege of airng the games--more than they would get from local advertisng revenue. It does hurt KJZZ TV as an individual entity and its employees a little but they weren't getting that much revenue for the games. Most of the ad revenue was being accounted to the Jazz as an entity.

To: Don't Panic

You sound like a KJZZ insider and since you're putting such a nice spin on things, I would bet that you're in management. (Except that you spelled it KJAZZ instead of KJZZ. Maybe you're trying to throw us off the scent.) At any rate, we're not buying it. KJZZ is not aggressive enough in getting syndicated programming that people will watch and when they do make a mistake and buy up a good show, they bury it in the late Saturday or Sunday night mire and refuse to promote it because it has content that is below their standards. If you are in management there, let me tell you something: It's fine to put on programming that skews to a certain moral standard if you're KBYU and don't have to generate revenue. But when you are trying to garner great numbers of viewers so that you can prove to advertisers that people are watching, you have to give those viewers what they want, and you have to SPEND in order to do so. If I worked there, I'd be panicking for sure.

I heard from a friend that more good shows are coming the Bonnie hunt show is great along with a show called the doctor's. And the office is coming in 09

For what it's worth I watch Powerhouse but only see that nut job Kinahan explode on air. I hope he didn't loose his gig.

There is a KJzz channel

What do they do. If such a channel exists it must something that no one is watching?

Not just the morning shows

A friend works there, and she says the cuts weren't just on the morning shows. The marketing director was let go as well as the lead producer of Powerhouse--Even though that show was doing well. It's a bad time to be in TV!

Really, I can comment? well then

I was one of the (around) 46 laid off.

The Cafe had it coming because Brandy Vega consistently pulled it down (in depressing content, worker morale, etc.), and if only that was canceled, we could have really created some great Home Team content. The problem was the same crew was stretched across Cafe, Home Team, Cooking Delight, and Utah Matters, plus other side things so we were pulling full-time hours in part-time positions giving us no time to really make anything more than mediocre. A good example is Powerhouse. They can work all day on one live half-hour show. We were pumping out 7 times that: 3 1/2 hours live consistently every day plus taping shows directly after so there was no time to fine tune.

Of course no one can be offended at the lack of warning. Can you imagine the last few episodes if we knew?

P.S.
1. Jazz games are always safe.
2. The same crew does the KJZZ and FSN broadcasts.
3. The Powerhouse crew also helps do the Jazz Live pre- and post-game show.
4. 2 News is a totally different station with different management that KJZZ broadcasts

I really liked KJZZ Cafe! My wife, daughter, and I watched it five days a week while we were getting ready for school, work, etc. Over time the set became better and the discussions became more interesting. I'm very sorry to see it go. It definitely leaves a vacancy in our home.

so sad

in my fifteen years of employment at various companies, i have never worked with so many incredible people. what a great experience it was while it lasted. good luck to the many talented people who gave these shows everything they had. you could honestly never find a better group of people to work with, what a shame.

The Home Team was just hitting its stride. Maria was interviewing Cindy Crawford, she had Dian Thomas as a regular contributor (she was a regular on the Today Show and Good Morning America several years ago), they were just getting the ball rolling. How can you expect to get great ratings in only four months? You need time to let the word of mouth get going.

It just goes to prove that KJZZ is only about the sports and no one else really matters to them. I fail to see why they even tried.

KJZZ employed

KJZZ has been a fantastic place to work for and I fully support everything that had to take place last week. True, it is very sad to see all those great people go, but the station has to survive somehow. We have lost a lot of money producing those shows and no one wanted to advertise on them. Therefore, production + no advertisers= Millions of $$ lost. Hard times call for hard decisions but I have to believe that the people we call our supervisors know what they are doing and are doing what is best for our company as a whole.
