good job PV all that matters is that you pulled it out. Good luck vs cottonwood for the 2nd time. No one is going to expect you to win this one, so go in with that nothing to lose attitude.

Great job PV

What Pine View has accomplished since being thrust into the 4A ranks is really quite remarkable. Their record over the past two years is now 23-2 with two trips to Rice-Eccles Stadium. Kudos to their coaching staff and players for their success. Unfortunately, they now face the daunting task of playing what amounts to all star teams in Cottonwood and Timpview, against whom they stand little chance. The reality is that with 978 students(as of October 2008)and closed enrollment (no out of boundary players) they should actually be playing for the 3A state championship not the 4A.

This was a great game. It WASN'T pretty to watch but it was a great game. The article mentions three late hit penalties for the Rams, well PV had one or two of their own. I think the two that hurt Highland most were the face mask, followed immediately by the unsportsmanlike. That's 30 free yards on PV's drive for their only touchdown. Who knows, without that maybe we don't score.
Such a low scoring game meant we only got one chance to see Highland's freshman kicker Hayes Hicken; is that not the greatest name for a football player you've ever heard? The Orchard kid did a great job at QB having to overcome two genetic roadblocks: he was one of the smallest guys on the field and he's . . . left handed. I don't know how people do anything left handed. Ram RB Muli Kinikini is a sledgehammer. Congrats to both teams; Highland for a great season and PV for surviving one more week.

Congrats Pine View!!! We love you boys.. I knew you could do it. It's true we had a couple of penalties on late hits-and a personal foul, but you know what you showed the Highland team that you would not take what they were dishing out. We need this same mentality next week. Although CW is more disciplined(less dirty), and better coached I know you can hold your own. Good luck and work hard.
WE LOVE YOU COACH HOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The clock is about to strike midnight for the 'lil team that could' from St.George.

What a great game! It was an "on the edge of your seat" kind of experience for everyone in the stands. Highland had a great team and ran the ball really well, congrats to them for making it this far. Pineview obviously didn't have the best night offensively or defensively but they got the "w" and that's all that matters at this point. I think Steven Anderson was kind of the unsung hero last night. Yeah, Ence had the TD and Stephenson hit the field goal which were great but Steve absolutly shut down Highland's big reciever. It was a great move by the coaches to move Steve over to CB and play Ence at safety all night. Pineview seems to be gelling really well and at the right time and I'm sure they are looking forward to getting another chance at a very strong and stout Cottonwood team. No matter what happens next week, Pineview's 2 for 2 at playing at Rice-Eccles since being moved to 4A-what an accomplishment! Great job players and coaches, and again, congrats to Highland on a great season.

Pine View got the W and moves on, once again our team found a way to shoot themselves in the foot! This was our game, and we gave it away. On two drives we were moving the ball, on the ground, effectively, and we cough it up both times between their end zone and the 25 yard line.
The fake punt at the end, was a horrible call. We should have kicked it and let our defense do their job. Highland penalties led to the 10 Pine View points, Pine View's offense was effectively shut down. And when Highland was moving the ball, which we did consistently, penalties were able to negate any gains. If you look at the Pine View scoring drives, it was Highland penalties which put them into scoring position.
Highland we gave this one away!
I can't help but thinking that Pine View knows they got an early Christmas gift courtesy of Highland.

Great game! My hats off to the panthers they played a great disciplined game and that I know has a great deal to do with the coaches! As for the rams it was a great season. You left it all on the field so hold your heads high. Didn't quite end up the way you wanted it to but the fact of the matter is you played your hearts out! PV good luck next week hope you can pull it off! Great game great teams!!!

You think wrong-PV WON! BUt you are right about one thing-Highland consistantly had penalities(Which absolutely were penalities) This should be an area of concern for your coaches. Hopefully you can get the kids under control. Good Luck next year though-

Pine Views QB is an amazing athlete and should be able to go on and play D1 on either side of the ball. Pv alson has a great coaching staff but i dont know if the QB has the supporting cast he needs to take state

Re: To: Ram nation

No, you're wrong.......fact: We gave this game away!
1/2 the time our kids were caught RETALIATING for Pine View cheap shots.
Our kids were frustrated the other 1/2 the time, because they weren't getting the calls on obvious Pine View infractions.
We ran on your defense, we shut your offense down. Our kids penalties and the refs moved the ball for you. We gave this game away.
I however, am with Cottonwood, which will beat you again next week, and will play for the title.
I'm not hating on Pine View, our kids got caught retaliating, they let the refs no calls get into their heads, and SOME of those calls were legit, but fact is we gave it to Pine View.
Good luck Cottonwood, bring the championship back to SLC.

Ram Nation once again

You can say the same things on as many papers as you want-but it doesn't change the fact that it is over. But I will not let you say that your kids were retaliating-they were the cheap shots-my advice to you is to get your players under control-focus on keeping a handle on the ball-and maybe you'll have a chance next year. The game was won on the scoreboard-it's over-you gave Bountiful advice I think you should take yourself-Quit blaming the refs..
Just move on. I will no longer respond to your comments as they mean nothing as to the truth of the game. Have a great day-and Good Luck next year-and to your seniors who are moving on COngrats on a heart felt battle!

Down south

I think the real reason for all of the PV haters is this. As a new 4A team, PV was supposed to pay their dues before becoming successful. Two years in a row they make it to the semis. Because of this, long time 4A teams that are used to being at Rice-Eccles are not making it because of PV. That's why some 4A teams are mad, PV is too successful, too soon. If you guys don't want PV at Rice anymore, start beating them in the first or second round. Until then start practicing harder.

Great Game!

This was the smash mouth football game everyone expected. Highland you have a wealth of talent, Kinikini and Hemuli were unstoppable forces of nature. Your mishaps with penalties got the best of you. PV way to find a way to pull out the win and not fall apart. The players stepped it up on defense at the end of the game. Oh, great kick Micheal that was HUGE! Good teams find a way to win games... and you are a good team.

We will need the same effort at Rice next week.

You show true class, #3 is a great player-it was fun to watch him play. Thanks for sharing him with us for a game!!

Heimuli is the real deal

This is a shout out to #68 Latu Heimuli. I had seen him on film, but never in person and all I can say is wow! This kid is the real deal. I believe he will be playing on Sundays in the NFL someday. Pine View came into the game with a rushing attack that was leading the state in yards per game and this kid put the brakes on it. Pine View had some success running the ball outside, but zip up the middle thanks to Heimuli.

player #24

you guys kept fighting it was a great game boys way to play. hopefully we see you guys next year for another great game.

pine view fan

i am so happy we won this game way to go coaching safe and way to say humble through out the playoffs players

PV Passing Game

Great win, Panthers. Highland was big, athletic, physical, and talented. But your 'W' was no fluke nor gift. PV stood toe-to-toe, giving as good as they got. The Ram 'D' tried its best to intimidate Ence (legally and otherwise), he answered back by leading his team to the win. You have nothing to say Ram Nation that anyone watching this game would take seriously. Highland brought it, PV overcame it. Having said that, PV has 3 MUST do's to give themselves a fighting chance vs. Cottonwood: (1) The O-line MUST pass block more effectively, and (2) The WRs MUST create separation and catch the football! and (3) The D-Line MUST penetrate and disrupt CWs timing. An 0 for 7 passing game will simply not cut it next week. Go, Panthers!
