6 seconds, not 5.
You can only call an offense powerful, if it shows on the field in yardage and on the scoreboard in points. Layton has the pieces and pawns to be a powerful offense, but they were only powerful for half the season. I think it showed that Layton was just tired on that last 80 yard drive. Many of them, having to play both ways, were just spent. Thus the 80 yard drive as a result. Both teams had the ball 3 times each in each half....6 times total. To play 47 minutes, 54 seconds to a 0-0 tie, was, yes.....very frustrating, but I know the Layton players left it all out on the field.
I don't care what any trash talker or anybody says, this Layton team and its coaches deserve their recognition. To go 21-5 (I think it is), the last 2 years, is an accomplishment! Layton has class & they are hard workers that achieve what they set out to do.
Questions in my mind from this game. Why, when the passing game was going so well in the 1st half, did Layton go away from it, back to the running game which was pretty much stuffed in the 1st half. Layton had 116 yards in the 1st half to 80 for Skyline for the half. Although it didn't show on the scoreboard, at least Layton was moving the ball.
Total yards Skyline 227 to Layton 158.
Rumor now that Applegate is retiring. I can see if this is possible, since his youngest is a senior this year. I've been a backer of this O, but half the season, it struggled badly. The D held this team up most of the year.
Thought this would be a better place to create a discussion or debate than the other thread.
This last second victory will be televised on Comcast ON DEMAND beginning Saturday afternoon
Way to go Skyline. Keep it up. Beat Bingham again.
Where is the big mouth?
Skyline made the play's when they had to. Great D.
Layton on the other hand made good play's on D, but what was the OC thinking. 2 years in a row and the OC can't make the right calls. The fans and parents want Coach B to replace Coach A with Coach Bingham. Syracuse needs to carry the flag now. Nice win for them. To True Blue Layton Fan the rumors are true. Make it happen for all of us.
Here's some fun or frustrating depending on how you look at it, WHAT IFS: (with my guesses added)
* what if Skyline actually passed the ball more? (they may have been more effective offensively)
* what if Layton stuck with their 1st half plan which was getting them yardage and 1st downs? (only 42 of total 158 yds in 2nd half) (they would've had more than 42 yards and have scored)
* what if Karl Williams were to run the ball more, as he did all season? (would not have been in so many 3rd down situations, where Skyline was expecting the pass)
* what if Skyline would've been stuffed at the goal-line, reminiscient of the Northridge-Layton game? (OT at 0-0 on Layton's home field = Layton win)
* What if the Layton O coordinator did 'not' resemble the Utah Utes O coordinator? (more pts would be scored)
* what if I'm wasting my time doing this? (Oh well, it was worth the fun)
Right True Blue, not enough player's to go around. However it was sad to see some very good talent go to waste. What is wrong with sticking with what is working? I seen 2 layton coaches having words regarding the offence calls. Most people at the game were scratching their head's wondering who was calling the plays. Just like Utah last night they excelled in the last 2 minustes when the coach was out of it and the QB was making the calls. Something is wrong at LHS. Fix it Paul.
Oh, forgot to mention.....great game Skyline! I hope you will beat Bingham, although I don't think you will. Dupaix, don't know who makes the O calls for the team, but it was masterful on that last drive.
Don't need to watch all of the comcast rewind, just the last 6 seconds. several big plays led to nothing. turnovers, missed FGs & bad offensive play calling led to a nuthin to nuthin score with a few ticks left on the clock. heart breaking. unfortunately, i think somebody's job is now on the line.
DT, then if that's what needs to happen, then let it be. I'm sure Coach B is thinking about it, and if he's not, then I'd be thinking about job security.
OK, so I'm loving the playoffs and will attend Rice Eccles, hopefully for some 4A ball too.....but I'm also looking ahead 9 months.
My pre-pre '09 early predictions. After Spring ball and summer camp, could change a little, but not a lot. I don't wait to read all the writers, as usually they're just asking around doing the same thing us fans do. ONly thing I lack, is interviewing the coach. Don't need to do that. Just stop and watch practice. Anyhow, my early early predictions (warning to Layton fans....as I may earn some enemies here). Also, I'm just one fan. Don't group me in with all Layton fans please, as some ignorant people here do.
1. Davis....takes/earns Region 1 crown from Layton
2T. Viewmont....playoff bound, offense will be better
2T. Fremont...rebounding year, will make playoffs
4T. Northridge....mediocre, but playoff bound
4T. Weber...upsets something to build on?
6T. Syracuse....rebuilding, losing too many seniors
6T. Layton....same as above
8. Clearfield....still rebuilding
9. Roy.....welcome to the cellar of Region 1
now TBLL wont post anymore...thank goodness
I can hear people thinking, why are we complaining when Layton has gone 21-5 the last 2 years? Because if a team is going to contend with the big boys consistently year after year, and you want the fans to return, you have to continue to improve. The Utah Jazz are 5-0 right now....think Sloan is satisfied? (rhetorical question)
to wasted talent: you know who made the O calls this year. Usually when a head coach gets involved, that means something is wrong. I agree with you. Fix it.
Watched Bingham play Northridge. To many playmakers. Skyline will get waxed. I'm not a Bingham fan but it is what it is.
If wishes were horses, Layton would be trotting to Rice Eccles next week.
I have said it all season long! This eagle team will be bangin on all cylinders come tournament time. I had some people give negative feed back and this just proves how foolish you are to ever ever doubt skyline. This team will beat bingham, how can you say they wont? we have already done it in style, we will be able to cruise to the championship! GO eagles!
LAYTON LANCERS have absolutely nothing to say skyline beat you guys. no excuses our d played amazingly and your o got shut out. but great game by both teams it could of gone either way but im glad skyline took it. we are the better team. im pretty confident they will take it all the way after seeing both of their playoff games, wow bingham better show up because skyline will defiantly put out some great football. congrats on the win boys
EAGLE PRIDE
Congrats to the Eagles for making it to the semi's, again. You got farther than anyone predicted, again. A month ago people were cheering the alleged death of the Eagles legacy and you proved them wrong, again.
Win or lose you will always be Eagles. Good luck next week.
I understand your passion for Layton Football, but do you really need to post 8 comments?
