Why is this even a debate? Using a phone while driving a school bus? Absolutely not.

Jake

I firmly believe that there should be a law prohibiting using a cell phone while driving any motorized vehicle, and in particular, school buses.

Sam

We live in Orem and last year our kids reported that their bus driver was often on her cell phone and had many "near misses".

well duh

This shouldn't include teachers, unless they are in the process of transporting students. Of course bus drivers should be banned from talking on their phones while driving a school bus. Safety first!!

utahmike

what is more important - the safety of the kids on the bus or the right of the driver to blab on a cell phone to their honey or babysitter? no brainer for me. the kids will always take precedence.

Yeah, there really shouldn't be a debate here. The only possible reason I can think of would be if there were an emergency. However, School bus drivers have radios and the district has a dispatcher. If there were an emergency, the dispatcher could contact the driver and vice versa.

The cell phone ban absolutly needs to include teachers as well. There are way too many teachers that use cell phones for personal business during class time.

General

They will wait until their is a massive accident caused by a bus driver trying to drive and blab at the same time... I am sure at that point this will be a no brainer.

What??

Are you kidding me?? No school bus driver (or ANY bus driver, for that matter) should EVER, EVER use a cell phone while driving. Why is this even being debated?

Howard Tayler

We shouldn't be passing a blanket law to cover two different types of cases.

Bus drivers are a safety case. They should absolutely not be using cell phones, hands-free or not, while the engine is running. Period. It has been shown that this kind of distraction is potentially as dangerous as having a blood alcohol level of 0.05%.

Teachers are a different case, and I'm not sure exactly how to describe that one. I don't have strong feelings either way.

talk yes, text no

I'll turn this bus around!!!!!!!!

George Layton

SCHOOL BUS drivers in California have been banned from using cell phones for several years before the general population was banned from using cells while driving.

why just bus drivers:

People are complaining about bus drivers using cell phones with children on the bus, what about parents on their cell phones with children in the car.

If your going to ban phones while driving it should be all motorized vehicles on public roadways. agreed with Jake 12:24pm
