Hundreds protest over Prop. 8

My son is gay as is a very good friend, and they both were for Prop 8, btw.
It bothers me that they try to associate this with the civil rights movements of the 50's and 60's. This is NOTHING like the civil rights problems that happend then. In those cases it was illegal to violate those laws.
Proposition 8 does not make same Sex merrage illigal just illegitimate (i.e. no one is going to Jail for being in a same sex marriage or for performing the marriage).
1. Governor Schwarenegger opposed it.
2. Senator Feinstein opposed it and ran ads attacking Prop 8.
3. Attorney General Jerry Brwon gave the oppenents a huge home field advantage by tying one hand behind the back of proponents of Prop 8. He changed the wording on the ballot to say it would take away gay rights that had only existed for five months. The judges on that court are attorney who mysteriously gain great knowledge and wisdom as the pull on their black robes to enlighten all of us ignorant bigots. By the way, the original wording would have read that it restored marriage between a man and a woman.
4. The State Superintendent of Education who lied in his ads when he said they would not teach marriage in schools. His own web-site confirmed that 96% of the schools do teach about marriage.
5. Continued to my next post.
Preaching the Gospel to decent folks will make our missionary efforts much more efficient.
Thanks!
Same Sex couple = civil union
Can't it be that simple?
Take away those five factors and it would have been another hugh landslide in favor of Prop 8 close to numbers like Prop 22.
2 Thessalonians 2: 15 "Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught.."
I don't think homosexuality is a tradition.
What are you waiting for?
Being gay or a lesbian is a choice. They, as a small miniority want to force the gay lifestyle down our throats. Why doesn't anyone ask the question. If only the gay rights proponents' parents would have adopted the cause and strictly lived it for just ONE GENERATION. The gay & lesbian zealots would not be here. The wide adoption of the lifestyle is not good for humanity. Think about that...if everyone in the world followed their gay and lesbian way. No children would be born into the world.
If the definition of marriage is redefined what is to guarantee it won't change yearly or at every sexual desire of another group?
To Sherry Talbot: You can love anyone you want, but please define marriage for us.
To Keble: Please define marriage to us. To simplify for you, you can drop the adjectives of civil or temple.
To Gayle: You've got it! It's all about words. They mean something. When we use them in ways they don't fit they lose meaning. When they lose meaning we have a harder time communicating ideas to one another.
And you know this because?
I guess the debate is over.
It doesn't matter how many times you call a screwdriver a saw it's still a screwdriver. Marriage is the union of a man and woman. If you want to unite with a person of the same sex you have to call it something different, like civil union.
So, I learn from this:
1) all gay men go out on their partners
2) heterosexuals don't go out on their partners
Glad I read these postings.
Wait...did I say "less"?! :-)
I think that the LDS church has their right to be against gay marriage, but they cannot get involved in legislation, and they have done that. This is America, we stand for freedom of religion and freedom from others religious views.
I solute all the true patriots that see this is a civil rights issue, and want to continue to make this country great by setting the example of government.
Give them an inch and they take a mile.
While I haven't joined any protests, I am nonetheless hurt and upset to have my marriage ended by someone else.
Explain hermophradites.
The "ends justify the means" mindset can never justify religion. The mormon church should be ashamed of themselves.
Very well said....
The result:
Marriage remains the original definition that involves the union between a man and a woman.
Main questions answered in the debate:
Are people born without a choice as to who they will have sex with?
--No, we all have the right to choose our sexual orientation by who we choose to have sex with.
Is it a matter of civil rights?
--No, equal rights are granted to everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, or any other distinction of humanity. America allows for any person who is a member of the human race to marry according to marriage's upheld definition.
Does the government owe benefits to unions other than marriage?
Government benefits are not inalienable rights. Marriage technically does not have any extra rights than individuals outside of marriage; however, the government has attached benefits to marriage that gay unions fairly desire. The government doesn't typically benefit every group in society evenly though, nor do they have to (no flat tax, for example).
The protest:
Demonstrates further that some don't respect democracy. The decision ran its course. Lobby for benefits, without changing marriage. Debate over!
"As a prophet reveals the truth it divides the people. The honest in heart heed his words, but the unrighteous either ignore the prophet or fight him. When the prophet points out the sins of the world, the worldly either want to close the mouth of the prophet, or else act as if the prophet didn't exist, rather than repent of their sins. Popularity is never a test of truth. Many a prophet has been killed or cast out. As we come closer to the Lord's second coming, you can expect that as the people of the world become more wicked, the prophet will be less popular with them."
Also Matthew 10:27-40.
