State Legislature to pick its leaders

Utah Bill | 4:30 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
We can't do anything about it, but state employees need to hope that Clark does not gain the Speaker position. He's been behind the drive to cut our benefits. Yet, members of the Legislature and their staff retain full benefits. We need to hope House members get behind someone who supports state employees and their families.

doesn't like state employees, see you later health and retirement benefits. There isn't any difference between him and curtis. Someones else needs to run.
Easily the best on the hill | 11:45 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Yeah, he cut an 800 million dollar unfunded liability from the state's balance sheet. He also diligently tried make the same cuts for legislators, only to have his efforts blocked time after time by the Senate. Clark is not Curtis. He is the best and brightest man on the hill- including the Governor. There is a reason that both parties are happy with him as the selection. (See the Trib's article where Minority Leader Rep. Litvack states that he believes Clark will do a good job and be "thoughtful and inclusive" to all members of the body.) H.B. 213 (the bill that the other commenters are angry about) was a tough decision that had to be made. Could you imagine what would be happening right now if Clark had not cut such a HUGE unfunded liability from the state's budget? We would be in a worse position than our neighbors to the west. Clark may be conservative, but he is also a thoughtful coalition builder. He will do a fine job.

Waddoups should give up | 12:44 p.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Waddoups and his ridiculous Senate Bill 61 fiasco should give up running after the Senate President position. Valentine does a great job...he has an intelligent head and is always a diplomat.

It seems to me like it is becoming a good old boys network in Utah County. Time to get rid of the Senate leadership and get some fresh new ideas in the Senate.
