Very Christ-like behavior.
Why didn't the church tell me how to vote on the assisted suicide prop in WA? Why didn't they ask me to place calls and give $. Isn't this a moral--not a political--issue?
I just can't figure out how to vote unless the church tells me.
Grateful that a couple that love and cherish each other just as many of YOU do, cannot get married in the eyes of the law just because you do not want them to.
Take a look around your lives. Over 11% of the population is gay. Period. Where does that put you with the people you work with, play with, go to Church with and interact with every single day.
Your next door neighbor, paper boy, EQP, hair dresser, mail delivery person, check out young man/lady at 7/11?
It's time to understand that this is life. Not a choice, just life.
Well, I hope the religious right enjoys their little morsel of victory, because we just won everything else.
This was a beautiful victory. To me, this was the most important vote for Election Day, and very likely the the one with the longest-lasting implications.
Get thee hence, LDS 'institution'.
This is the reason I love my country... i was worried that America is having a slippage from a moral view of our society. Whew... not gonna let that happen this time.
Once again, the VOICE OF THE PEOPLE was heard LOUD AND CLEAR....hmmmmmmm - when will those judges learn?
I am grateful that the church has stood up for this issue so strongly. I know that many think that the church should not meddle with civic issues, and for the most part I don't think that the church does. However, when an issue comes up that the church does oppose, especially at this level, I feel we need to listen.
Thank you again to the leaders of the church for being willing to stand strong.
yeah, good job california, dont let the minority right laws for you!!!
I wrote things in this form that questions the need for the churches efforts,
Although I don't have a problem accomidating Gay people, and I question the logic of how allowing gay marriage can hurt regular marriage,
I am 4 square against gay adoption. Gays who ask for this ask too much. It occurred to me that if gay marriage is allowed, this might be used as a tool to make gay adoption more prevelant than it already is.
I still question why the LDS church fights gay marriage, when the real evil as I see it is gay adoption, not marriage.
I still remember the first time I heard about gay adoption. A lady in Oregon put her child up for adoption and a gay couple got her kid. When she heard about this, she went to court, she said this is not what she envisioned when she put her child up for adoption. The court ruled against her.
I was upset with the ruling, but then no one spoke out. Now people are saying gay marriage hurts hetroxexual marriage.
I don't understand the LDS church thinking. It isn't wrong but it is skew to that the truth is.
I am so relieved that prop. 8 went through. With having a democratic president, house, and senate, I can at least be happy for this victory. Thanks all you in California who helped preserve traditional marriage! Though, sadly, the fight isn't over yet, it's only beginning.
I almost feel like there's a touch of karma at work here for those who viciously pick on the church, you got what you deserved... defeat.
With all the clamoring and bravado of the GAY Liberals and their affection for the Democratic Party....it looks like it was as much the Democrats who defeated Prop 8 as it was the Repub's! Higher turnout for Obama did not turn out to be a win for GAY Marriage...infact just the opposite~
I always knew my hair dresser was gay. So what?
The Church has marked a new low in dealing with the homosexual brothers and sisters in the fold. It is a sad day in California for those who want to be loved and love and want to put the official sanction of marriage on that love. A sad day for tolerance. It is the first amendment that I am aware that takes rights from people. Sad.
This article is another example of poor wording.
To say something is "illegal" gives the impression that there are criminal penalties connected with it.
This is not the case in this issue. What happened was the state revoked its recognition of same-sex marriage. It did not make anything illegal as the term is normally understood.
This makes me absolutely sick! I hope the mormon church and its leaders are proud of what they have done--and I dont mean defeating the proposition--I mean destroying the faith of many of its members--gay and straight.
Makes me glad I resigned my membership.
I hard fought victory, but unfortunately its not settled. No doubt the court will once again meddle with the peoples decision. Oh, and gays are still free to be gay. They just can't force it on children.
This sort of bigotry, which has plagued the Mormon church since its inception, is one of the main reasons I left the institution. It is a shame that the Mormon church who are in a constant battle to prove to the world that they identify Jesus Christ as their Savior, cannot see that their actions are actually doing the opposite. Love is love, and I cannot imagine a Jesus who would have donated money to prevent two committed people from expressing that.
Too bad! Unfortunately, too many people look at this as "gross" or as a moral issue. Morality is not the monopoly of one group. Some of the most moral people I have met have been gay and some of the most immoral people I have met have been pious christians.
Give it a decade and it will change.
