Go Davis! Any given night!
Davis' D | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I have seen them both play and I would put my money on Alta's D being better. Alta's D has been tested and they have shown they are the # 1 D in the state. I guess we will need to wait til Friday to see what I am talking about. Alta has the # 1 O and the # 1 D. Go Hawks.
HSFAN | 9:05 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
All this talk about a Davis D that lost 3 games in Region 1 including a loss to Weber? Where was the D that game....this game will not even be close! The best team in Region 1 was Viewmont, this is the 2nd best team.....Region 1 is over rated! Take it to em hawks!

Prediction

Alta 49

Davis 12

#1 Defense? Except against Jordan, how do you let any team drop that many points on you?
RE HS Fan | 9:32 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Viewmont wasn't the best team in Bountiful.
RE: HSFAN | 9:37 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
The Davis Defense did show up against Weber...they only allowed 9 points. It was the offense that couldn't score (7 points). The difference will be the offenses. Davis will struggle against Alta's Defense and the Davis Defense hasn't seen an offense like Alta's in their Region. Alta 35 Davis 14
reality fan | 10:23 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
davis has not allowed more than 14 in a game and they cant put more than 9 points up against weber. so when alta comes out and puts 14 on the board in the first 2 series and the game lies on the offense against a very talented alta d, it is a bad combo. i am a jordan high alumni, so giving props to alta is hard to do, but lets be real. then throw the mix of davis having to learn alta's o in a week after not seeing anything close to it up north. i would be happy as can be to see the hawks get upset, but i have seen how they handle adversity (the jordan game) and how they have played in playoffs in the past. alta will be hard to beat, by any team, but for davis i would say almost impossible. i will pray for you davis. good luck!
reality fan from jordan high | 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
ok well i have to say something here. davis has never allowed 14 points in the game i put money alta does that the 1st half, if not there first 2 series. so that being said the game lies on the shoulders of the davis O, which couldnt put more than 7 on the board against weber. hey i hope alta loses, it is hard for me to credit the former rival with anything. i also have seen them play, they can come from behind as they did against jordan, that shows the heart they need, and the d for alta is one of the best in 5a. for those of you that think up north is comparable to down here, keep your eyes on this game. cause when alta does what ever they want to against the "great" davis d, what will you say then. alta has to strong of an o for davis, and davis cant score against weber, they won't be able to score against the hawks. hope for big special teams plays. davis, i will pray for you, good luck!

Davis has nothing to lose and everything to gain. I think this game will be a lot closer than most of you think!
Davis Fan | 11:45 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Hinds missed the Weber game is the reason they didn't score any points.
DHS Darts 1 | 11:48 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008
The key will be Davis fetting pressure on Olsen. If they can pressure and sack him it will be a close game. If not, it might be a long night for the Darts. The Darts can put points on the board, just ask Riverton about that.
re:to Davis' D | 12:38 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Ummm...Davis didn't play Jordan this year...what are you talking about?

Davis 17-14
Alta Alum | 1:46 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I told my good friend last week, whos boy plays for Viewmont, that the only chance Viewmont had in beating Alta was to put at least 30pts on the scoreboard. Well, you can see that they were lucky to put up 14. The problem with not scoring points against Alta, is that Alta has probably the best offense in the state, and 'THEY WILL' score points! Twice this year teams have put up more than 30 on Alta. The first team to do it was Grant HS, CA, and they beat the Hawks. The second was Jordan, and although they put up 36, they lost to the Hawks. Somehow, I don't see Davis scoring that many points, and I also don't see Davis' defense containing Olsen, or his core of receivers. Alta scores at leat 42! Oh, and by the way, they'll have 28 by halftime!

R.E. to Davis' D: Jordan has an awsome quarterback, an offensive line that can protect him, and a core of receivers that can catch the ball. That is how Jordan put up 36 on the Hawks. Plus it's a heated RILVALRY! Also, look what Alta's offense did to Jordan. That's right, 38pts!
r.e. Davis Fan | 1:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Hinds won't be your key to victory! Alta's D is the strongest against the run! Just ask Bingham and Skyline. Davis will need to throw the football in order to be in this game. Davis's sophomore quarterback will be running for his life!

Alta 48 Davis 7
Defense Comparison | 2:00 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
The Davis defense is not as good as the Bingham defense, and Alta was able to score 27pts on Bingham! This game will be over by halftime just like the Viewmont game was. Alta is rolling along, and on a collision course with Bingham.
have some fun | 2:31 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I have to say that the best high school game I have ever seen was the Jordan/Alta Game. The game could have gone either way. Its too bad one of those teams had to lose. If you have comcast watch the game--best ever. Go diggers, go hawks--lets see a rematch in the final game. That would be exciting again!!
Darts 1 | 2:50 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Yep, the Darts will for sure have to have success passing the ball. If that happens it should open up the run game.

DHS Darts 1 | 11:48 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008

"The Darts can put points on the board, just ask Riverton about that. " WHAT??????

Putting points on the board against Alta is a lot different than putting points on the board v. Riverton.

My nephew played for Bingham last year. I remember going to that playoff game and seeing the confidence in the Davis fans and they went crazy on the first TD, but after that, I am not sure they had a first down. I see the same type of game vs. Alta on Friday. 42-6
re Darts 1 | 3:01 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Nope! Not with this defense!
re: have some fun | 3:05 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Yes indeed. That was one of the best games I have ever seen as well. The other two are the championship game in which Bingham beat Alta and the semi-final game last year when Alta returned the favor. Those were exceptional games. That being said. The Jordan/Alta matchup to end the regular season is still number one. What an emotional roller coaster.
Viewmont Fan | 3:22 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Having watched Viewmont play both Davis and Alta I think Davis has a little better defense. However if Alta's offense plays as well as they did in the 1st half against Viewmont then I think they can score 30 or more points on anyone in the state. In the 2nd half Alta stayed with starters til the middle of the 4th quarted and the offense made mistakes and didn't look as dominant. If Alta has a few turnovers and Davis plays well on the offensive side of the ball it could be a close game. Go Darts.
AH | 3:31 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Alta - 38
Davis - 10
If Davis is lucky enough to make a field goal?

RE have some fun, I have to agree the Jordan/Alta game was one of the most intense games I've ever seen that goes for pro, college, or highschool. It was a lot like a UofU/BYU game. Congrats to Jordan. Now there's 2 teams that have earned our respect (Bingham being our other one obviously). Props to Jordan for showing extreme heart and intensity.

As for Davis, I think it's easy to say you have a great defense when you play teams with horrible offense. Not saying all teams up north are awful just being objective here. Region 1 can't hardly score against itself. What I saw last week was an overhyped defense from to teams that were pretty comparable to Davis.
IF Region 1 teams | 4:53 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
are as closely matched as most people think, all 3 are going down this week. Maybe Layton pulls an upset. Syracuse is in trouble with PG and Davis will be lucky to keep it within 4 TDs.

FYI- Region 1 teams.......keep in mind Kearns, Hunter and Riverton are OUT. Different story with PG, Alta and Skyline. If you don't know what I am talking about, check back here Friday night when reality hits you as hard as the Alta D line.
True Blue Layton Fan | 4:59 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Alta by 35. The Alta D will baptize Davis' soph QB. He'll get a taste of the turf that he doesn't want. Domination by Alta.
Predictions from the ref | 5:18 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I made my predictions last week, and I may have been off on the scores, but I picked 7 of the 8 games right during the week, and now I'm going to make my predictions for this week. I was very impressed with the competition of last weeks games, and it is turning into exactly the way I thought it would be. Almost!

Skyline at Layton
Skyline 27-24(ot)

Jordan at Bingham
Bingham 38-35(ot)

Syracuse at Pleasant Grove
Pleasant Grove 31-14

Davis at Alta
Alta 35-7

I believe that two games will be over very quickly, and the other two will not... layton, bingham, skyline, and jordan are 4 of the top 6 teams in the state, and that I am certain... Bingham-Jordan game will be an absolute thriller, and I wouldn't miss it for the world... The skyline game will be close, but I'm picking skyline to take an early semi-big lead, and have layton come back to force overtime.... either way, overtime or not I think that these two are games I would not miss depending on where I lived!
something to note | 6:00 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Just something to consider that D-news fails to recognize. a lot of the points put up on Alta were put on the second stringers. Had starters played the whole game there would be a lot more points for the offense and a lot less against the defense. Just something to take note of.
To Davis D | 6:05 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Alta's D will keep you to ZERO points and Alta's D will do what they have done in almost every game this year, (maybe every game, I didn't see every game) THEY WILL SCORE ON YOU.

Alta 42 (Alta's D 6)
Davis 0 (Davis will not have more than 90 yards)
Alta Crow | 6:51 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
You Alta boys just might find yourselves eating a little Crow.
Anonymous | 7:33 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Alta's D gets the job done. Alta's offense puts about 21 on the board.

Alta 21
Davis 10
re Alta Crow | 7:39 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
You'll be the only one eating a bird on Friday night! Alta is way to talented on both sides of the ball for Davis to even remain close to them.

Region 1 doesn't generate enough offense to hang with the big boys. That's why your defense is listed as the 'Best'! Give me a break; there is no offense to challenge you!

On Friday, you'll run into the states best passing offense. Try and get to Ammon Olsen by way of blitz, and he will eat you alive by his ability to find the open receivers, and also his ability to run.

I see this one being over by half time! Alta 49 Davis 7
to all davis fans | 9:40 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
im a fan from a team near alta...who happened to only beat us by 2...(go beetdiggers)...the week leading up to the Region II championship all alta fans could say was it would be over when it started...were gonna beat you by 60...you got no shot......DAVIS...DONT TAKE IT FROM THEM...THEY ARE (as we from jordan like to say) VERY "BEET"ABLE...YOU CAN BEAT THEM SHOW THEM WHO THE DARTS ARE!!!
DHS for life! | 10:14 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
davis will pull an upset, layton will beat skyline, and syracuse will beat plesant grove. region one is by far the hardest and best reagion for every sport in the state of utah.
back to the davis alta game.. davis will pull one of the biggest upsets in state history! watch close people cause cowser/karya/lindsay/t-car/rave/fowler/hinds/burton/welk will shine. one day we will be making a movie about this game.. we shall call it "The day the darts destroyed the Hawks"
Lets kick some butt Davis.. Impossible is nothing!!

Davis 28-24 2OT
HA HA | 10:32 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Right region 1 is the hardest... I needed the laugh thanks DHS for life! Let me ask you, do the numbers 55-14 or 42-7 mean anything to you? Way to go region 1 ha ha. Oh and that awesome walloping of 14 pts you put on Riverton, that was just nothing short of impressive... Thanks for the laugh dude!
Re:DHS for life! | 10:38 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I'll tell you what's impossible... 28-24 2OT. Think about it!
To Alta | 10:41 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
You have not even seen Binghams run yet... You have not played the real Bingham to be honest. If we meet again.. Your "Super D" is in for a huge suprise.
To Jordan Fan | 10:54 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
Your just upset your not our # 1 team we want to play. Bingham will beat you and they will beat you bad. We are not like TV, we want the best of the best to play.
Go BLUE | 11:13 p.m. Nov. 5, 2008
I love to read well thought out comments. The post at 10:14 is not in that category. DHS for life is not thinking clearly. He is obviously delusional, possibly needing a twelve step program.
Alta will crush Davis. Won't even be close.
Bingham will beat a very competitive Jordan team.
Skyline will narrowly defeat Layton.
PG will have their hands full with Syracuse, but will prevail.
With all things considered, region 1 could possibly have two teams still in contention after friday. Davis would not be one of them.
Re" Go Blue | 12:07 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Why do you think Skyline will defeat Layton? Lone Peak had 3 out of 5 key players out and Layton beat Jordan with their players out and Jordan killed Skyline. Is it just because Layton doesn't blow people out they have gotten the job done. I seriously want to know what you know, I am not being rude..teach me cause I am curious. Thanks
r.e. To Alta | 6:14 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
What do you mean we haven't seen Bingham's running game yet? I seem to remember in that first game, that you tried to run the ball against Alta and you were stuffed! Yes all of your so called great running backs were ineffective against our run defense. If you're going to say that they're better running backs now, I'm going to say our run defense is better now. No one has been able to run the ball effectively against the Alta defense. They're only weakness lies in the pass defense. If you can pass the ball just like Jordan or Grant, you might have a chance to be in the game with Alta. But to say that we haven't played the real Bingham yet, GIVE ME A BREAK! Bingham hasn't played the real Alta yet! We are a better team now than when we last played Bingham. Oh, and I've seen how your DB's play. They will be in for a rude awakening when Olsen passes all over them. As for Langi and Yack, the results will be the same as the first game. Better hope on some awsome special teams play! Go Hawks!
To Alta Fans | 7:49 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
All we hear about is how great your D is against the run, how you can stop anyone with your big guys upfront, welcome to Davis ball, we are coming to run all over you.
Good luck Davis! | 8:10 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Hey Davis! So you're the total underdog! Who cares, it's a great place to be. You have nothing to lose. Just go out and play your best so there are no regrets. And who knows, you just might pull out the win if you stayed focused and play hard enough.

Alta isn't even the best team in the state (even though they think they are). So just play your best and have fun. GOOD LUCK!!!

Great Alta Education!!!!!!!

Your just upset your not our # 1 team we want to play.

Youre is always a contraction of you are. If youve written youre, try substituting you are. If it doesnt work, the word you want is your. Your writing will improve if youre careful about this.
??? | 8:54 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
i personally would like to see ALTA win. if they win and if bingham wins, the two teams will meet once again. AND BINGHAM WILL PREVAIL!!!!
Region 1 | 9:03 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Alta and Bingham are good teams. They get all the best players from around the valley, which makes them unstoppable.

Region 1 is a close race because the kids play where they live. So instead of having one dominant team with kids from all over Davis County, the talent is spread evenly.

Salt Lake kids should try this method it makes for a lot more fun and pure competition. If Region 3 kids did this then they might have more than one team still in the race.

Same with Alta. I wonder when the east benchers will decide to send all their kids to Brighton so they can have a succesful team, like they did when they were called the "Beagles".
Go BLUE | 9:16 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Re: Re: go blue: I never get into the thinking of "this team beat that team by this much so this other team should beat this other team etc.
Some teams match up better than others. Layton and Skyline is a good matchup. Layton's stingy D against Skyline's potent O. Layton offensive strength is on the ground. Skyline has good run defense. Skylines weakness has been defending the pass. If Layton can pass effectively they will probably win. It was just a prediction. Its a good matchup.
My main reason for posting @ 11:13 to let DHS know that the Alta Davis matchup is not a good one for Davis. Anyway you dissect this one it comes up Alta. Alta big

True Blue Layton Fan | 10:29 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Unfortunately for our big rivals, Davis, this one won't be close. It'll be fought tough in the 1st half, but Alta will blow it open in the 3rd qtr.

I know this is not the Layton thread, but will comment on one thing about the poster @ 9:16 am. You said, "if" Layton can pass effectively they'll probably win. Layton can pass, will just have to see if they bring their A passing game....which I think they wil.
not impossible | 2:18 p.m. Nov. 6, 2008
You can have a 27-24 2ot tho.... think about it....
