Curtis and Buttars = Special interest bought bullies. They need to go. Oh yea, the News don't you believe in Freedom of Speech? I have posted five times today and you have not posted one of them. Are you afraid of the Truth?
We Can Hope | 11:02 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Voting out Buttars and Curtis at the same time is too much to hope for and, with the Eagle Forum Phone Tree in overdrive, probably won't happen.

But, it sure would be great.

Both men have so much baggage and are so full of themselves that it is hard to imagine how they ever got elected or were reelected.

From gas-guzzler-gate (not even mentioned any more), to insider real estate deals, to campaign-fund fraud, to outrageous personal behavior followed up by less-than-sincere token apologies, to being part of that "good-ol'-boy" super-majority on the Hill, their presence simply cries out for a healthy change.

For whatever good they have done let's tell them thank you and let them ride off into the sunset -- in a perfect world at lease.

But, like I said, it probably won't happen and "we" will get what "we" deserve again!
Reason (not the 11:50 pm one) | 11:03 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I dont know that we can put any credibility in this poll (regarding the election itself), since it doesnt seem to have been limited to voters within those districts. Instead, this article appears to be another jab at Buttars by political editor Bob Bernick, who seems to have some type of grudge against Senator Buttars. This is Bernicks final shot at Buttars before the election, an attempt to once more stir the pot by mentioning Buttarss poorly-worded comment on the Senate floor, without giving the full context a context that would show all fair-minded people that there is no valid reason to consider Buttarss comment racist.

Buttars seems to be a straightforward guy who tells you clearly where he stands refreshing for a politician. His positions reflect those of the vast majority of Utahns. The voters within Buttarss district know him best, and they trust him regardless of the negative uproar from those who disagree with his positions.

The only good thing about these races is Utah is voting Democratic
The GOP -Republicans just do not hear the public till time to vote
Shirtliff says the cops were right shooting a man with Domestic troubles
I think this should tell you about Utah
The people are someone to be milked
Don't cause a problem
No more incumbunts
No Intelligent Design | 11:17 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I voted early and didn't vote for Buttars because of his support of ID in school science classes. Regardless of your views on evolution and ID, ID does not belong in school science classes because it isn't science. If you want ID taught in schools, put it in a philosophy class.

If the "baby" comment was the only issue, I would agree that he should not be voted out of office. However, when he uses his office to bully local goverment officials on behalf of a supporter, not a voter in in his district, when he writes a sitting judge on his Senate letterhead and belittles the judge's decision against his suporter. These issues concern me a lot more than the "baby" comment.
Democrat for Curtis | 11:26 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
As Speaker of the House, Rep. Curtis can get things done that other representatives cannot. That's just the fact of the matter. So to have Sandy's rep also serving as speaker of the House gives Sandy and its needs a lot of clout. Who wouldn't want that for their community? I want a representative who not only cares about our community and can give a powerful voice to its issues, but can also get things done for it. My vote is for Curtis.
the truth | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I can't believe anyone would think that a magic (D) by anyone would make any differnce at all or change anything.

Quite the contrary there is plenty of evidence democrats would only change things for the worse.

Just listening to the rhetoric, hate, and divisiveness, the foolish things they believe in like evolution, from the left, only enourages me to vote republican.

All the recent reports say the Republicans have done an outsatanding job governing and managing the people's money including balancing the budget and keeping the hightest credit rating in the country, and willing to making cuts to do so, without cutting anything important things like education (but actaully increasing ieducation funding every year). Tremendous fiscal responsibility.

And the Republicans represent the values of the majority, not the special interests or the extreme left.

Be smart -- Vote Rupublican!

Or be dumb as a cow and vote democrat.
Fighting Against Constituents | 11:53 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I am a very socially and politically conservative individual and I do not remember voting for a non-Republican in my lifetime. With that said, Greg Curtis and Chris Buttars have not fought for their constituents. They have fought for their party. They have supported School Vouchers when a great majority of their constituents were against them. They have fought against public education every step of the way. Their answer for the problems in public education have been to vote for undermining funding, when the majority of the public believes that we need to increase teachers pay and funding in general. If we spend our tax revenue Private Schools we are really undermining education in the name of the "free market". We already have choice - we have Charter schools.
If you can only say that they have fought for their constituents by citing how many tax cuts they fought for, then the question is, are they really fighting for their constituents. There is a point when lowering taxes is not useful, especially if you are throwing away the tax revenues we have wrong-headed educational reform like vouchers. In all truth, they are fighting against their constituents

Are so many of you people above really basing your votes around the issue of Gay Marriage? Seriously?

It's not even up for vote in Utah. Even if it passes in California it probably won't be up for vote in Utah for years and years. And yet you're basing your votes on an issue that does not impact your lives, will not impact your lives during the next terms, and probably won't for far longer than that?

There are reasons to vote for either candidates, and justifiable reasons to go one way or the other, but this is just ridiculous.

Good grief. Just when I thought my view of the public mentality in this state couldn't get any lower.
Sanity says -- Oust them! | 12:06 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Both of these men would rather take away your rights than righteously govern. It is time to have new people in these positions. I am a life long republican but neither Representative Curtis or Senator Buttars are good for Utah.
chuckles55 | 1:15 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
With the vested interests of these two, I am glad to see that their constituents are finally seeing the light and are not just being overwhelmed by the glitz and rhetoric. Vote the person, not the party!
Elkman | 1:22 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Curtis has over $500,000 thousand dollars in his election fund. Most of this money has come from big business and developers. He has very little that has come from individuals. Curtis has contempt for Educators and Public Employees. He supported Legislation to stop Educators and Public Employees from being able to put money into their Associations. This is a limit on the Free Speech and Association Rights of those Employees. Curtis crammed the voucher mess down our throats. He was a driving force behind the Jordan District Split that is going to cost millions in litigation. Curtis has run a smear campaign against Jay Seegmiller which is immoral. So any rational thinking person will vote to put him out to pasture. I cannot think of a scarier thought than two more years of Curtis reeking havoc on Public Education and average Utahans. Vote for Seegmiller and Save Utah!!!

These two men did not vote for nor did they allow an ethics
bill to leave committee; it is easy to see with no ethics independent
Analysis as the Utah Bar does business will be as usual! They have
been for long enough! Most of Mr. Buttars legislation as been so
ridgid, it has ended up or still is in litigation!
memikeyounot | 1:52 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I would love to see both of these men retired from office so they can get busy on their LDS missions.
I also would like to see EVERY Repuglican removed from office this year. If nothing else, simply because they've supported, if only implicitly, the current occupant and his cronies for the last 8 years. 79 days and counting.
Concerned | 2:14 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
The following is from the Jay Seegmiller candidate report: over $2,000 Act/Blue States (Cambridge, Ma), UEA PAC $1,000; $3,200 UTU PAC; United Seel Workers District 12 $1,750, Utah AFL-CIO $3,500, CWA-COPE Washington DC $500, IBEW Committee Washington DC $4,000, IBEW Local $800, Operating Engineers Local No. 3 $3,000. If you want a person owing his political existence to UEA and unions, then this is your person.
Goodbye | 2:16 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Goodbye Curtis and Buttars and good riddance.
Senhor Tambor | 3:39 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
I always get a laugh out of all of those who post on these boards decrying Sen. Buttars and those of his ilk. (He's my rep too, sadly).

But it's like getting angry at what you see in the mirror every morning. Guess what, gang? He'll be there tomorrow morning, too! Why? Because he is a reflection of the true face of Utah. Blaming the mirror gets you nowhere.

This is why we have elections. Clearly, he DOES represent the majority. So the task at hand is not to change the mirror, but to change our face.

Fellow constituents | 4:18 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Please get rid of Buttars. He is a hate-filled man and a scar on Utah politics. He does NOT represent his constituents.
The Kid | 4:26 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Personal attacks aside, people need to remember the issues. It seems like Mr. Curtis should answer for the school voucher issue and the soccer stadium issue. Mr. Buttars has a host of issues that need to be addressed. I also think that Sen. Bramble has done some questionable things that I personally watched at the legislature.
Buttars supports vouchers | 4:31 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Senator Buttars SUPPORTS private school vouchers.

That's enough for me to vote him out of office.
Elkman | 4:34 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
Concerned: Why don't you supply us with the campaign contributions for Greg Curtis. The reason you did not is because these contributions have come from big business, developers, alcohol & tobacco companies, developers, and ambulance chasing law firms. I'm a lot more comfortable with Seegmiller getting some Union money from hard working people and teachers than I am seeing Curtis beholding to all these rich fat cat big business interests. I get a kick out of all the bull crap thrown around by the Republicans about the UEA. They are the Republican boogie men. The UEA is made up of hard working teachers who are trying to fight Curtis and all his Voucher Supporters, and Charter School, District Split wacko's to make schools a better place for our children. We need to hold Curtis, Bramble, Hughes, and Buttars accountable for not supporting ethics reform and send them packing on Tuesday. If you want to see what is scary look up who is funding Curtis!!!
Crawford and Maxfield! | 5:52 p.m. Nov. 1, 2008
These 2 will solve the whole problem, and actually contribute a LOT to the entire state with a health care reform plan that will be the model for the entire nation to follow. The Curtis-Crawford-Seegmiller race goes to Crawford for that reason alone. Maxfield will bring about true ethics reform better than any proposal that has been brought up! And they both happen to know a lot about the current economy and what to do to fix it.

What has Curtis or Buttars done for health care, ethics reform or the economy? What do their opponants offer other than "the incumbants are bad?"

Become a diversified voter for once, and vote for some good for a change!

Vote Crawford and Maxfield.

Elkman,
Butters might have lost easily if the democrat candidate had NOT sponsored a night at the Saturday's Voyeur, making fun of Butters. Pretty stupid if you ask me. (No I didn't go see it, most people around here find it offensive.

I have not been a real fan of Butters, but I am not in his district and can't vote for him or not. I think it pretty funny that Bennion Spencer lost to Butters in 2000.
