When has Coach Sloan ever been happy with any thing the Jazz team does? It seems
he is always complaining.

Yeah, why should he care if his players aren't in shape and want them to
improve. They're professional athaletes who cares if they get tired
running.
It's not like they haven't asked Fes nicely to get into shape and told him it's probably the first key or tool to being an athalete. Sloan is just esplaining why KK has moved ahead of him even though he's a rookie.
You all must be government workers, it's okay if you don't do your best or come prepared just don't rock the boat.

Yes but he is also right. This team is good but not championship caliber yet.
Unless they commit to get better at defense, this year will be just like the
last 2. They will win their division & be competative in the playoffs but
not make it to the finals. To roll the same team out on the floor & not
commit to getting better at anything but expect better results is foolish &
Sloan knows it.

Yeah, the Jazz played so well Wednesday they could have beat anybody. They got
nothin' to improve or work on. NOT! Come on guys, if we want to see a
championship come to Utah, the team's got to play better than they did by a
long shot! And that's what Coach is trying to get them to do. Let the man
do his job. He's good at it!

I think a lot of people were not way excited how the Jazz let Denver back into
the game late in the 4th quarter. I know I wasn't excited. It should of
never got that close. I was worried and would be even more upset if we would
have lost that game. Jerry Sloan cares and he will tell you the truth about
what he thinks. All Jerry wants is the team to stay on their toes.

I agree with Sloan this time. The Jazz are supposed to be the best in the
league at home, and they barely got by with the skin of their teeth. Denver
didn't even have Carmelo.
I don't care if they didn't have Williams, that's no excuse for sloppy defense like that. If they had played a better team than Denver, they would have been beaten bad.

Sloan is obviously a great coach. Few NBA coaches have managed to keep their
jobs as long as Sloan has. That said however, does not mean that he has managed
to put all the pieces together like Phil Jackson was able to do in Chicago and
now in LA. Sloan has always been known for his defensive strength and has
always commented on how the Jazz must improve their defense. I hear little
about how developing team chemistry helps to build championship teams. In my
opinion, coaches hold a key role in helping teams to "come together."
I haven't yet seen what I would like to see from Sloan and that is working
to build the chemistry that wins championships... How does he keep his players
loose and having fun while they play... The great teams find a way to enjoy
what they do. I hope the Jazz can enjoy playing with each other this year...
Sloan must always remember that a win is a win and not be so afraid to celebrate
every win. If he continues to take the "fun" out of winning, winning
will be lost in the game.

Sloan is right. The Jazz don't play defense. They attempt it, but never
put their heart into it. CJ got 13 minutes. Not bad but he had better pick it
up or I will need to change my name.

Denver probably won't even make the playoffs this year. The win
wasn't really that impressive. I wish Fes would start working. He could
really help the team.

I have a tendency to disregard people's statements and opinions when their
post is full of mispellings like "loose" instead of lose or
"athalete" instead of athlete. In my book it completely destroys their
credibility.

Sloan is right, the comments on this post (most of the time) sound like slackers
who do not like being told how to improve at what they do. This team needs to
learn Tenacious D in order to win the whole enchilada. Coach is right on the
money.
P.S. Miles needs to get to the hole more often. He has the physical ability and can really free up his outside shooting by doing that. He looks pretty amazing when he does!

To all the Sloan bashers get a clue. The guy is up there with Pops and Zen as
the best 3 coaches in the League. Figure it out people!!!

up as the next darling. I guess the flavor of the month now is the Lakers? Enjoy
your flavor. I am a Jazz fan.

Ok, spell-checker, I can definitely see where you are coming from (or "from
where you are coming" to be pedantic). When you see spelling mistakes you
discount the poster's intellectual capability. But you should get over it
and try to judge arguments/posts on their merits. Proper spelling/punctuation
is not always associated with the rigor or legitimacy of an argument. My
grandfather grew up during the Great Depression, lived on a farm in rural Utah,
and received very little formal education. I never realized how bad his
spelling was until the email revolution over the past several years (he now
sends frequent emails to the fam). His spelling is extremely poor, and yet he
frequently makes great insights.
Also, some people don't proofread their own posts--I mean, it's only a post. So mistakes are more likely, even from "smart" people.
Back to basketball, this is just "Sloan being Sloan." I love that he has such a high standard. I think he's adjusted somewhat over the past couple of years to give more positive feedback as a potential motivator as well (see his treatment of AK post-AK breakdown). So I think he's improving, but I still love hard-nosed Sloan--don't change much Jerry.

Jackson had MJ and Kobe..you would have to be a complete idiot if you could not
win with those two.
Sloan does well....sometimes luck plays alot with it

As a longtime out of state Jazz fan, you UTAH fans are very fickle about SLOAN.
Every year at this same site, I read about how you want to fire Sloan and how
the game has passed him by, and how negative he is. Yet, year after year his
teams overachieve and make it to the playoffs. Sloan has done more with less
talent than any coach I've seen in any professional sport. Which explains
why he is the most tenured Professional sport coach. It's hard to find
someone that will stand up to the players of todays generation and demand the
best out of them through thick and thin. Sloan is from the day where a man
earned an honest days pay for his effort. How often do you see that in the NBA
today? How many of you admired what Mike Singletary did to his star player this
past Sunday? Sloan is in that same mold. He's never been afraid to send a
player to the locker room when he's not giving his best effort.----We need
MORE coaches like that.

I have to say Sloan has alot to be concerned about. This team got beat back to
their own basket for so many layups it was pathetic. All the players blah
defense blah defense all preseason long and then they come out against a team
WITHOUT the CHIEF CHICKEN NUGGET Melo and barely win at ESA? They should have
crushed this team--instead they barely win?
Sloan said it "they are the most talented but that won't win it".

As a longtime out of state Jazzfan, I have observed that you instate Jazz fans

see the chants about firing Sloan, his negativity, and how the game has passed

Deron is always smiling and cracking jokes with every teammate. Miles is also smiling and laughing most of the time. Big Fez has to be the butt of most of the jokes. I don�t know what the Sloan haters are saying, but I have seen great chemistry under Sloan�s reign. Having fun plays an important role in a team, but so does hard work. Sloan is a coach that is focused on the championship and he understands the work involved to get there.

actually going to show up??? All we ever hear about is how poor the defense is
and how lazy the players are on D. So, when is this problem actually going to
get fixed? It would be hard for Sloan to bench almost all of his players for not
playing defense, but what else can he do? The players talk about it, the
coaches, the fans, the media...yet night in and night out we see the same lazy
play on D. Good luck winning games on the road and winning games in the 4th
quarter with the same passion-less defense.

I'm so tired of idiots who think Sloan should go. Year after year I hear
this drivel and year after year Jerry continues to do more with what he as than
any coach in the league.

To the sports writer who dissed Deron Williams for wearing sneakers with a
suit....I thought it's a rule while on a gymnasium type floor sneakers are
the only shoes permitted. At least it was that way when I walked on a gym floor.

Man you guys are crazy, you're all crazy. Did you watch the game Sloan has
every right to dog on them. The Jazz got lucky because they should've lost
by ten or more. The nuggets were cold all night long, and couldn't hit a
free throw. Kleiza missed all his shots almost, remember when he dropped a
career high on us. Anyway, all I'm saying is count your blessings jazz
fans, they really dodged a bullet.

As a fan I'd rather have the Jazz win then care if Sloan was happy. Sloan
is not bigger than the Jazz and if he's never happy he should jump on his
John Deere tractor and ride away. What good is winning if the coach is an old

Do any of you really believe that if we fired Sloan, we could get anyone better?
It's not like Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich are going to be lining up for
the chance to move out to Utah and coach the Jazz. Sloan's a tough coach,
but he's as effective as anyone in the league.

I am 65, have attended coaching clinics by some of the best college coaches in the country, have coached 8 years and have won a championship coaching basketball. I have seen Sloan change and improve in some of his short comings this last year. He has improved, but he has his short comings like playing Collins instead of giving his young big men experience and not benching players that play little defense. Stop gripping about the defense Jerry and start sitting their @ss on the bench. It might cost us a game or two short term, but will win us many more games long term. When I see Sloan pull his stars from the game for not playing defense, then I will be even more of a Sloan fan.

Jazz point guard Deron Williams missed the season opener and was in his street clothes with a sprained left ankle during Utah's game with Denver. The Jazz beat the Nuggets 98-94. Williams is hoping to return to action next week.
