I am guessing this is somehow related to early voting, but it does baffle me.
How are people already voting if the election is not until next Tuesday, and how do they decide who can vote early. This still seems odd, what is the point of an election day if people can vote over a week in advance?

I think it's called "voting by absentee ballot."

News flash! President Monson voted!

News flash! President Monson attended a Jazz game!

News flash! President Monson put on a pair of shoes!

News flash! President Monson washed his car!

What kind of silly nonsense is this? Who cares about the trivial details of his life? That is not news, that is hero-worship and it is idolatry! We worship Jesus Christ, not President Monson!

I thought I was going onto Des-News to read a nice article and I went onto some hostile sight named ~~|~~ Deseret News Censorship: What's with this??? I didn't find anything nice about Pres.Monson or anyone else in the church. A very weird site and scared me.

The point of the election day is that it's a deadline and it's when results are announced. Is there anything wrong with voting early besides that it's not what you're used to?

Daizy,

Your not in Kansas anymore!
Vote Early | 5:38 p.m. Oct. 29, 2008
and avoid the crowds!!

Utah has a policy where citizens can Vote Earlier that Election Day. some people don't like to wait in looooongg lines. This is not the absent T
format.

Good move on President Monson's part.

A person of his stature in the Salt Lake community would draw a lot attention standing in a loooongg
line. Media types and others could be very annoying.

This way President Monson can set a Good Example
of community service without all the annoyance of waiting in that long line.

This might actually encourage others to take advantage of Early Voting that happens in a few more states than just Utah.

I never said there was anything wrong with early voting, just that it seems odd. That may have been a porly chosen word.
Still, I am wondering how one does early voting and what are the rules about it.
I have rarely had to deal with lines on election day, so it is not a big deal. Also, here in the Eastern Time Zone we get few election results on election day, because it is midnight here before the pools close in California.

And the pools close way before the polls do!
Early Voting | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 29, 2008
I've been told that only 17 of the 50 United States
(plus Washington DC and the territories) have Early
Voting. I didn't do a thorogh research on this.
I'm sure it is "look-up-able" on the internet.

Was told by a Utah resident on the phone that it happens in the evenings for 2 weeks before Election Day and ends on the Friday night before Election Day. This was said in passing in the phone call.
There might be some more specific details.

The idea is to avoid the long lines and the problem
of taking time off from work on Election Day. Some people who are slow readers and haven't made up their minds before getting to the polling place,
CAN take a LOONNGG time in that voting booth.

Good Luck and check to see if your State has Early
Voting.

I overheard this the other day - young girl to her mother. "If voting is so important mom, why don't they just make it a national holiday or special day so they can make sure everyone has a chance to vote.

not a bad idea for someone so young. Perhaps after this spine-tingling election we could borrow the "Day of the Dead" celebration from our south-of-the-border friends - it seems appropriate.

The church encourages us to vote, so President Monson Voted. Simple as that.

Early voting exists, from what I can find, in 31 states, plus 3 more (and DC) where it's allowed for certain voters. It's different than absentee voting, and the exact dates of early voting are different in each state that has it.

Thank you all for supporting this good cause. When I took the picture I thought it would be a great way to help people realize that everyone no matter what your background is that you need to get out and vote.
