Heck yah! Animals have no rights. They are PERSONAL PROPERTY and as such you can do anything you want... Sounds great to me... Ol' Rex as a throw rug!! that is way cool.... How do I get a hold of that guy??
James | 3:41 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
Obviously this was a JOKE! and it was a dang funny joke.
Susan | 4:02 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
Sheesh. Hey Spike and James, you seem to be real idiots.

"She(Anne Davis) has also filed a legal complaint and was in the process Thursday of obtaining a subpoena to find out the name and contact information of the person who made the posting." Anne Davis is screwed up a little too tight. It is a joke, maybe in poor taste, but a joke. I wonder how this guy intends to do horses and cows(what about elephants) at his home in Federal Hights??? I am sure large animals are prohibited in that neighborhood. More joke Anne.
The laws this article talks | 4:37 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
about are not in the criminal code. I guess it is against the law to euthanize a noxiously weed, even though you are required to control(euthanize) them by law also.
Wish I had thought of this | 4:45 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
Shooting cows in a home in Federal Heights?

Right now, someone is having a good laugh right now, and it's not just me.
uncannygunman | 4:49 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
I all seems pretty harmless to me, although I would be surprised if the law permits this guy to do what he was advertising. This animal worship has to stop though, it gets really old.
someone smart | 5:48 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
You guy's are sick! This "thing" is advertising to kill pets and make them into rugs! Can I just say grossssss.
Ken | 6:44 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
Pretty dang funny. The fact that it has riled up the animal rights people and ultra sensetive animal lovers everywhere makes it extra satisfying.

I have a cute but "yippy" pet dog. I will be sending this article to my wife as a suggestion. She'll roll her eyes. She may even laugh. But she won't sue me.
This was either a big joke | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
intended to put animal "rights" fanatics into a seething rage or... just a big joke. Either way, the one clear thing is that animal fanatics need to get a grip on life.

I used to love animals and had several dogs and other pets growing up, but today I am very hesitant to have any animal in my home or backyard. I can live without it because there is so much more to life.

Sorry animal fanatics, but your fanaticism ultimately will harm animals (although harming humans in the process is just fine because humans have no rights if they don't agree with liberal politics).
Joke? | 9:58 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008
Sounds pretty reasonable to me after being chased down the street by a family pet. Perhaps using the public sidewalk is not a human right.
this is a joke morons | 12:35 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
the ad was posted in all sorts of cities as a joke on a forum. it turns out SLC has the most stupid people in it and took this crap seriously. everyone, especially those involved are laughing their heads off about it.

epic lulz
awesomeron | 3:15 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
No Joke. Not that bad of an idea in some situations. People have their dead Pets Cremated all the time. Some people have animals that they hunt stuffed and display posed. Roy Rogers did that with Trigger. There are all kinds of animal skin rugs. Throw Rugs, Plashes etc. Why not have your favorite kitty, rabbit, or dog, stuffed and display posed in their favorite spot. Of course I would seek the best work at the lowest price. That is just the business end of it.

Put 'er down. | 4:53 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Good for him.

This is why you don't "apopt" a pet, you buy them.

You "adopt" human beings.

Putting an animal "down" is very humane.

HAHA | 6:59 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Epic Lulz.
Clarence | 8:00 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Guess what? PETA does exactly what this ad offers. And it does it every day.

Check out the PetaKillsAnimals website.

No joke.
Dang right | 8:23 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Oh this is to funny! I think what is most funny about it is the reaction from the activists!
Anonymous | 8:37 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
That is so funny! Thanks for the laugh!
Hilarious | 8:54 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Thank you D News for bringing a smile to my face so early in the morning. Looks like you are spotlighting a practical joke each week (last week was the boys who ran around 24 hour fitness in "skimpy" underwear). Let's continue to see more articles like this cause they are just plain funny and help brighten my day. Thanks!
Rooofles | 8:56 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
He did it for the LULZ!!!!
Smiling | 9:12 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Which is funnier? The story or the extreme reactions? Lawsuit? Subpoena? What a huge waste of judicial resources. Let's worry about real HUMAN issues like; drugs, gangs and abuse! Sounds like Anne is trying to justify her job...
kcc | 9:20 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
The liberal left, (animal activist), won't stop until no one will want to keep a pet at all! Way to go you animal extremist idiots! Wouldn't stop me thou, if I had a pet that needed "euthanized" I'd just take it for a little ride in the country! You know, just a man and his dog out for a stroll, but, only one comes back home!
body count | 9:32 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
What these animal advocates don't tell you is the huge numbers of animals that are put down each month because they can't be adopted out. According to some reports, 20% of dogs and 80% of cats at shelters will be put down within a month.
Observer | 9:33 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I'm not a member of PETA, nor an animal rights activist, but I do know this. Until mankind respects all living things as beings that God created, they are respecting neither themselves, nor God. Because mankind has the ability to use and abuse all other living things on the planet, does not mean that we have the right to do so. I would think that in a state like Utah, where the predominant culture believes strongly in an afterlife and facing a judgment day, that those who actually live their religion and believe in it, would put more thought into how they treat other living things.
Chelsie | 9:43 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Whether they did it as a joke or not, that's gross, and I guess if that's your thing then it is, but I would not want my babies stuffed and laying at the bottom of my bed at night because that is their favorite spot to lay. You don't have to be an animal rights activist to love your animals enough to not want something like this to ever happen to them....I guess if it's a joke then it's a joke, but I don't really think it's funny, and I don't see the humor in it. Hating against animal rights activists is lame to, because that's what they do. They love animals and there is nothing wrong with believing strongly that they should be treated with respect and making sure that they have good homes. I'm not way against this article I just don't find it very funny.
CiCi | 9:48 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I thought it was a stupid and senseless ad. Not funny in any way. This person needs to find something else to spend their time on.........
Yeah, sure | 9:56 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
This is interesting that Ann Davis is all worked up about this ad when Utah does not even have an ASPCA. Farr West only sends a spare cop or cops who could care less if a dog starves. I guess it is called animal control and lowest cop on the totum pole has to go and then does nothing about it. Utah barely passed the animal curelty law. Most cities have anaimal control. That means you control them. Utah doesn't care if they are being fed. Davis if you want to do some good get an AsPCA in Utah and pass a law that every city/town have an animal cruelty officer or officers.
Lame Joke | 10:04 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Re: Observer

Agreed. There are two types of people in this world:

1.) Those who think that, as people, we are obligated to take care of the earth and it's creatures.

2.) Those who think that, as people, we are entitled to use and abuse the earth and it's creatures.
Funny | 10:06 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
It is not funny, it's hilarious! The only things funnier are the serious responses. Humane treatment of animals does not mean they are human.
Funny Bone | 10:13 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Someone has a great sense of humor out there and at the same time is able to show how gullible some animal rights people are in the USA. Of course, why wouldn't they be...they buy all the PETA propaganda hook, line and sinker. Reminds me of an old Buck Henry bit from the 60's when he made up a false organization demanding that all household pets had the right to wear clothes. Even a frustrated Walter Cronkike was fooled by the joke.
To "Observer" | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
"In a place like Utah" people realize that they are punished for their deeds and not their words. Your "predominant culture" (what you really mean is members of the LDS Church) believes that you have to DO something wrong before you are punished. Even if this was a sick joke, the fact is it wouldn't be done if fanatic animal groups didn't make it headline news--you all are giving the joker who posted the ad more than 15 minutes of fame... at no cost to him. Why would he not do it? Your bluster isn't going to coerce him to change his behavior.

Wake up and smell your hot cocoa. Take some time to smell the roses. You will find that if you spend your time showing love to people who are in need that they will take better care of their animals on their own without any help from self-righteous sycophants.
skippy | 10:22 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
The animal rights movement is behind the killing of 5 million dogs and cats each year. Peta killed over 3,000 last year alone. The ad doesnt shock me at all. The animal rights people continue to say "A dog is happier dead then alive. The ad just says "Right back up in your face, your not fooling anyone.
T Nugent | 10:56 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I haven't laughed so hard in weeks! What a comedy genius whoever came up with the ad. Great piece of satire pushing the buttons on all the PETA wackos. I've e-mailed the article to dozens of people just to share the hilarity.
Stewart | 11:30 a.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Get a grip Anne Davis, your proposed politically correct attitude and threat of a law suit is what has made this article so funny, and turned you into a joke. It is not that animals would be euthanized in Federal Heights that made this a news article, it was your silly threat of law suit. Thank you DesNews for the laugh, especially for the those from writers in the comments.
Radicals | 1:50 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I don't believe in torturing animals and I do love my dog, but it's interesting to watch the response from radical animal rights folks when they're faced with equally radical views from the other end of the spectrum.

The same folks who would illegally break into private property and release thousands of mink into the wild to be run over by cars and eaten by predators, and think they've done the mink a favor, getting a taste of their own radicalism from the other end of the spectrum.

Animals should be protected, but they don't have the same rights as humans, and never will.

If your child broke his leg, the thought of putting him down would never even be a consideration.

With a pet, that's an option, sometimes even an economic decision, whether it's worth spending a lot of money on a pet, or whether it would be cheaper to get new pet.
I Hate Annoying Dogs and Kitties | 2:04 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
This goes to show that animal rights morons have no sense of humor. You know, he may be onto something, what if we wanted to do that for our beloved grandparents, like have a granny sue rug or a grandpa joe couch cushion?? We could preserve granny sue in her rocking chair doing her knitting.

Seriously Animal rights freaks, do you think that person was for real? They're the ones laughing at your hysteria.....go on, abort the unborn humans but save the cancer ridden kitty....you people need to get help for your derangement.
Incredibly irresponsible | 2:10 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
What an incredibly irresponsible and perverse idea, to torn pets into rugs.

Any environmentally conscious person would realize that the only proper way to dispose of pets is to compost them.
Liberty | 2:11 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Many animal lovers worship at the idol of caring for the planet while simultaneously neglecting their fellow human beings.

Animals don't have rights.
Fred Derf | 2:13 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I'm not sure why PETA is so concerned about this. Wait, isn't PETA the abbreviation for 'People for Eating Tasty Animals?' It's not? Maybe it should be. Nevermind.

Gotta go -- my medium rare sirloin is getting cold.
Anonymous | 2:47 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
PETA needs something to complain about. Things have been a little quiet for them lately.
Marble | 2:49 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Of all the SICK, TWISTED, IMMORAL, HATEFUL things... cows and horses should be shot in a barn, not a home. It would make them so homesick otherwise.
Frank | 2:58 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
Great article, about just as funny as the lady yesterday whos facing 5 years for killing her "online husbands" online character.
PETA is pathetic | 3:43 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
At least this gentleman has a constructive idea to address the pet population which has run amok. I say more power to him!
Hairball | 4:59 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
This would be so great if it wasn't a joke. My favorite cat died 7 months ago I love the idea of a rug. Any one out there in west TN that can help me with that I still have 3 other cats
Kally | 5:42 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
To Hairball,
Do you mind keeping your cats out of my flower garden. I really dislike grabbing a hunk of stink while gardening. Thanks!
Anonymous | 6:47 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I experienced this and it wasn't that bad.
Pet Rug for my 10 year old dog | 6:51 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I appreciate the opportunity to have my 10 year old dog made into a rug and allow me to sleep with it for the rest of my life. Peta euthanizes 90% of all pets in its care - I will help them by turning old missy into a rug and saving them the expense.
Mediamaid | 9:53 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
FACT-OF-THE-MATTER is we are not animal fanatics, but, human fanatics against human(s) acting like animals. All life is precious. Respect for another's life is sometimes lacking to the point of degradation, dehabilitation and yes, death to the animal/victim. Great and grave concern comes to the human secter at that realization. What we as "animal activist" do is put a face and voice to the victim that human's have to face. I am not so much an animal activists, as I am an educator in humanity. Cultured individuals know there is great and grave concern when people just do not realize there are those who are tough when it come to sensitive subjects.
Mariah | 10:19 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
i think it is quite sick for people to treat a dog like child. if you people want a child then have a real child and put the dog in the dog house where he belongs. Cats are disgusting! they use peoples nice vegetable and flower gardens for litter boxes. And who wants to eat veggies that have been urinated on by a stinking cat or dog? You owners of cats and dogs need to get a brain and have some consideration for the human race.
Fun but not funny | 10:56 p.m. Oct. 24, 2008
I find it excelerating to discuss sensitive topics such as this. This topic is dear to my heart. To be at the roundtable with those of opposing views and at more than arms length. Having researched and reviewed immediate particulars and consistant with indepth research, I continue to find one critical component - individual human behavior, not groups, but, individuals within those groups to have different levels of compassion or lack thereof. Individual's attempt to poke fun at a joke is no joke when it is a tasteless joke. This very character is capable of attempting to pull it off. Taking it lightly is a joke in itself. This mention is moralistic let alone ethical behavior that is discredited. Action/topics as sensitive as this not taken seriously by us is evidence of the level of compassion or lack thereof, and is also in the limelight.
