This "free market" ideology is called privatize profits, share losses. Bennett is well versed in this ideology considering the public bailout of his old superfunded paint factory.
Yes Bob, and it's a good thing we all followed your Y2K lead as well. Thank goodness we have you to watch out for us little people!
free market?? Is there really a free market left in America? People have been using the government to give themselves advantages for 200 years. If we had been using constitutional money and the interest rates were dicated by the free market and the banks were not allowed to engage in fractional reserve banking (legalized in 1913) then we would stop having boom and bust cycles and the market would be healthy and steady.
Under the current circumstances, if the banks had been given new money for new good loans and the bad loans had been allowed to die it would have been much cheaper and much more effective. Bennett is not a man for the people. He thinks if he keeps telling the same lies that we will eventually believe him.
"Bailout Bob" is a joke, and I predict he won't be returned to the Senate in 2010. I suspect he knows that he has botched up bad and so now he returns to Utah to try to make speeches and cover up his refusal to represent the interests of Utahns. You've got to talk real fast out of both sides of your mouth to cover up a gift of 700b to your banker buddies!
I have quite sizable investments in the stock market too, but I believe its MORALLY wrong to try to make others cover your losses.
The long-term effects of the bailout will be MUCH worse than having the companies "buck-up" or fail!
Thats the way the system works and any outside interference (such as the bailout) only serve to camouflage the problem.
I predict you'll see "Bailout Bob" trying to make a LOT of speeches here in Utah to try to sooth over Utahns distaste for his bailout. I'm sure he's hoping that by 2010 he can make voters forget about his photo op with Bush trying to convince other members of Congress to go along with 700billion in welfare for bankers. Then there's his amnesty record!
UTAHNS ARE NOT AS STUPID AS HE THINKS!
With all due respect, Senator Bennett has been dead wrong on this. Congressmen Bishop and Matheson were absolutely right in voting against this awful bailout plan that investors across the country have shown no faith in as demonstrated by the Dow falling over 25% from the day it was enacted. Intervention by the Federal Reserve and the Treasury may be needed to avoid a serious downturn, but not by this "taxpayer cash for wall street trash" bailout. It has not worked, will not work. It does nothing about the housing and mortgage problem that's causing the downturn. Any Econ 101 freshman could have designed a much better plan with one tenth the taxpayer risk this plan presents. The sad thing is, few Republicans would have supported this plan had Senator Bennett, the second ranking Republican on the Banking Committee (against the dsires of the #1 ranking Republican on the Committee) supported and pushed this plans with a "SKY IS FALLING MENTALITY'. Snator Bennett is the #1 Congressional Republican reciepient of Freddie and Fannie contributions.
I agree with Mr. Cook. Sen. Bennett has been on the Senate Banking Committee since 1992, and has been a senior member for the past six years. He together with the Clinton and Bush administrations have listened to the foxes and put them in charge of the hen house.
Sen Bennett has not been looking out for the best interest of the people of the United States, but for those in the "Good old boy" network that have supported his re-elections. These Good Old Boys have been the Robber Barons that have cleaned us out, and Sen Bennett was still willing to protect them one more time in this massive bailout.
Sen. Bennett also supported the cheap labor employers in trying to foist off on us the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill" commonly referred to as "Amnesty" in 2006. It will be time to retire Senator Bennett in the 2010 election. Start thinking about it now.
It's bad enough that Bennett's career on teh Sentae Banking committee failed to spot and stop the horrible abuses and waste that began this disaster.
Worse, he was on the house-Senate conference committee that raised the cost of the bailout bill from 700 Billion to 850 Billion by packing in all sorts of pork. Either he approved of every wasteful dime that out kids and grandkids will struggle to reply, or he failed to make his objections known.
In either case, he is WRONG on this issue, and must never be allowed to run again. We cannot afford another bailout or stimulus bill. The goverment is doing the same thing that the banks did- living way beyond their income.
By the way, Bob. How are you going to pay Spcial Security recipients down the road? Not with the worthless IOUs you have been writing while you spent the Social Security withholding on current pork projects!
