While some of you are belittling Obama supporters, has it occurred to any of you
why CC Goldwater, granddaughter of Barry Goldwater (who lives in Arizona) and
Gen. Colin Powell are voting for Obama.

Just because you're not aware of this study, don't expect all posters
to give sources for everything they post. This is an 'opinion page'
after all.
If you really haven't heard of any of these studies, I have to ask what rock you've been hiding under. I've heard of what I assume is the same study, it was reported on in several mainstream news broadcasts (not right-wing talk stuff), both TV and radio in the past 4 years and it's more than one study.
I can confirm these research studies exist and it showed that Repuplicans give more to charity than Democrats. I can't give you the reference, but I know I've heard them. I think you can find them if you do some research.
You can come up with your own explanation or deflect the research study if you will, but you can't just deny that it exists. There are too many witnesses on both sides who DO watch the news to deny that it exists.

In 47 comments I count 7 or 8 (taking out those with multiple posts under the
same name) that favor the opinion of the letter writer. Majority wins and for
the next four years the Democrats get to play the role of "real
Americans" and slander the other side for being...let's see...ah,
fascists! Why not change the names of the parties to the socialists and the
fascists?

You may remember from last week the story of the California Republican group
getting some unwanted attention for including in its newsletter an image of
Barack Obama on a food stamp, surrounded by fried chicken, watermelon and other
racist stereotypes. Well, the president of the group has now resigned.
Diane Fedele, Presidend of the GOP apologized last week "to anyone who was offended" by the cartoon, but said there was no racist intent involved in its distribution, telling a local newspaper, "I never connected. It was just food to me. It didn't mean anything else." In a letter she sent Wednesday of this week to her group's members, she apologized again, saying she'd shown "poor judgment and lack of insight and sensitivity."

Joe the Plumber, Phil the Bricklayer and Rose the Teacher may be popular
characters at John McCain's rallies these days, but apparently, by any
name, Joe the Reporter still isn't.
As a crowd filtered out of an event in Florida this morning, McCain's volunteers directed some supporters to walk through the media workspace on their way to the parking lot. Perhaps because most of the press corps had already left (and only a few stragglers who weren't joining McCain on a bus tour of the I-4 corridor stayed behind to work), the crowd wasn't shy about telling us what they thought of the coverage of the election.
"So is the media biased, or one-sided?" a woman asked me. "I don't know, what do you think?" I said. "I think they're biased. I think they should get out of everything that's going on," she told me. I asked her if that means the press should stop covering the campaign. "Yes, stop covering everything," she said. "I don't even watch CNN or NBC anymore." (Sitting nearby, a CNN reporter and producer were getting similar questions. "Are you CNN?" a woman asked. "When are you going to apologize to Sarah?")

To "Utah Dem | 2:00 p.m." Joe the Plumber has a valid point. He can
see that right now he makes less than $250K a year, but he hopes to make more
than that one day. Why should he be punished because he achieved something?
If an actor makes $20million for a movie, is it fair that the guy operating the camera only makes $50K a year?

The point Lionheart is having a problem understanding is while Palins preaches
that she is a simple "hockey mom" and drinks beer with "Joe Six
Pack" and tells us she relates to "Joe the Plumber" - she sends
some very conflicting messages when she shops like Paris Hilton.

All Obama is really talking about is getting rid of the tax cuts that the
Republicans (Bush and Company) have given to the very wealthy. The rate of taxes
going up on the middle-class is higher than any other group. I like that someone
cares about this. With Bush in office the middle-class was given a larger
percentage of the tax load, at a steeper rate. There's no real raising of
taxes, what he'd do, is let the tax cuts expire.

I've been deceived!? What? Gosh, and I thought I was making informed
decisions based on what I knew about the economy and the candidates! Gosh, I
better review it, let's see, I've been deceived into believing that
there just might be a better way of doing things, that we can get along with the
rest of the world, that there are fuel sources other than oil, that we
don't need to rip up our country to get it, that Americans don't need
to die in wars. That the middle-class do not need to support the extremely
wealthy, that we all can do our part. Gosh, silly me. I thought I was supposed
to want change, instead I found out I'm deceived. There's no hope for
us as a country. Well, rats, I'll just have to take my highly educated,
elitist self and go hope things never change. What would we complain about if
there was actual improvement?

Colin Powell and Scott McClellan revealed that they are supporting Barack Obama,
Laura Bush will announce on Larry King that she, too, is disgusted with the last
eight years and will endorse Obama.
Even George W. Bush is beginning to think that the only way to salvage his reputation and legacy will be to follow his wife's advice and support Obama also. Bush is reported to have said, "We cannot have four more years like the last eight. It might destroy the country to have another leader like me."
Although this rumor has not been verified, people may be hearing more from Rush Limbaugh on this suspected defection.

has plans to attack Afganistand and Pakistan...what makes you people think the

Powell voting for Osama is racist pure and simple regardless of his denial. As a prominent columnist observed, "blood is thicker than politics."

The people Avenues don't have the intelligence of those in West Valley.
Look at home values or incomes. Does education and intelligence reflect in the
income you earn? Do college grads earn more than drop outs?
It's amazing most people in universities are liberals. Bush had a C average and his family got him into Yale. Bush had to have parental affirmative action to get into Yale. Look what the brains who voted for Bush have caused, They will not accept personal accountability. American has the wrost economy since the Great Depression. And today, those that elected Bush are expounding the same logic that got America here.

McCain would sooner put money into his houses etc and on the body of the caroboo
from the north. People from all walks of life have donated to the O campaign in
hopes for change. It will not happen over night, it cannot even happen in 4
years as it has taken 20 years to get to this point. Daddy Bush wanted World
Order and didn't succeed, a break with Billy Bob then along comes George
and his cronies = a world run amok! Time for new glasses

Thank you for your responses regarding my comments in the Readers Forum today.
Our Country is obviously very divided. We have forgotten that we are all
Americans first, liberals or conservatives second. All of us whether educated or
uneducated would do well to read the constitution of this great land and see
just what it promises and what it does not promise. The constitution promises
life, liberty and the "pursuit" of happiness. It does not promise
happiness. We all have the freedom to try and the freedom to fail at our dreams.
It does not promise free health care, free education, free
housing,etc.(Socialism) When the government allows the have-nots the power to
reach into the back pockets of the haves to pay for all their wants and needs,
our great country will soon be reduced to the likes of all the other poor
Nations. Have you noticed that people of the world are trying to escape their
countries to come here not the other way around? Be very careful what you wish
for, when it is finally unmasked you might not like what you see. Obama's
ideologies are the anithesis of all our basic Freedoms. Buyer beware.

I am actually not American, I am English, but I love reading your posts as I spend a lot fo time visiting Utah. I am a teacher in England and like all my colleuges wait to see if America makes the right choice for its own citizens and for the rest of the world. Never has England been so gripped in an American election, it is all we talk about. We are afraid that if a Rebuplican gets into office we will have to deal with another Bush, I don't even have to go into the reasons why that would be a bad choice. I think it would be better for all your citizens if thise who were unable to look after themselves had medical help. If I am sick or one of my children is sick I go to the doctors and it is sorted out, I don't even need to think about the cost, surely this is every person's right. Why should one person be able to have better care for their medical problems because they have more money? Life isn't fair but we should try to even out the odds.

I moved from Utah a decade ago, and am pleasantly surprised to hear about the
number of Obama signs around. Someday, Utahns will realize that Jesus was a
liberal (and a community organizer!)
Obama is a wonderful, educated, smart, and religious (Christian!) leader. If you don't want to vote based on policy (which I think everyone should, but many do not), look at how the two candidates live their lives. Which candidate has been divorced? Which one gambles regularly? Which one worked with the poor? Which one is calm & compassionate?
Vote your mind, vote your heart, vote your conscience... whichever. But don't vote your knee-jerk default.
