Firm to build 159 giant turbines across 40 square miles of land

Why is the power going to California? Is this because the site in question is federal land? Can anyone confirm this?

Why is Utah being colonized to provide power and water to California? I think they should take care of their own energy and water needs. Utah needs to transition from coal and natural gas to solar and wind, and building arrays on Utah that profit a private company from selling to California (what's left after transmission losses) does not serve our energy needs.

The power is going to California because California utilities are required to buy renewable energy. Utah utilities are not. If the power wasn't going to California, this plant would not be built. We need to encourage - and preferably mandate- that Utah utilities supply at least 20% of their power from renewable sources- by 2020 or earlier.
