Parody. While PG and LP fans will go back and forth on who should really be "ranked" number 1, the fact remains that there is parody among the top 5 teams in 5A. On any given day anyone of the top 5 teams could win. Anyone of those teams is one injury away from not making it to the semi finals of state. The truth is that the teams currently in 5A would not be able to compete with Viewmont, Brighton or PG teams of 2001-2006. LP was was a notch below then. That was the era when Utah HS VB was recognized on a national level. But it also lacked suspense at state You knew Viewmont was going to win their 2 state titles and that the Brighton team, also probably the best team ever to play in Utah, was going to roll over the compition in 2006. 2005 had 2 national top 20 teams in PG and Brighton, and probably the most exciting state tournament match in state history with PG prevailing over Brighton in 5 in the 2005 Semi match. But this year bring parody and on the final Saturday any team could win.

Thanks for finally recognizing that there is some pretty good volleyball being played south of the Wasatch front and north of the St. George area.

Re: HS VB Alum

Not saying your right or wrong, but glory day's teams are alway better in memory, especially if you played on or against those teams. Is it possible that the level of Volleyball has improved statewide and that is what brings about some of the parody you mention? You also only focus on 5A and there is great volleyball played at all levels (and yes I support a 5a school).

Having watched the teams you mentioned in both regular season and the state, they were all one injury away from not winning state, as with many teams in many sports, so this is an unfair statement.

State will be fun to watch at all levels this year....so enjoy the present and you personally enjoy your glory days.

Totally Agree

As much as I love Utah volleyball, the skill level todyi

Andronicus

How did Riverton move from 18th to off the list after winning their last game? Undefeated in Region 3 and not even making the top 20? The Silverwolves also beat Carbon 3 times at the Skyline tournament.

Parity or Parody?

Layton rocks!

What for Layton in the playoffs. A lot of talk about Northridge, and they don't have a standout player supposedly. Yet, Layton beat Northridge for their only loss this year....and Layton DOES have standout players. Kat LeChaminant has a full ride offer from Utah, if she chooses them....or from a lot of other colleges elsewhere.

Re: Layton rocks!

Kat is a good player.....but from what I understand the U of U already has their 2009 class committed and they might be surprised to learn they have a full ride scholarship offer still available.

Kat

Then I guess Kat's mom may be surprised to find out they offered something that wasn't good....hmmmm.

Re: Layton rocks!

I think Northridge has earned the talk, our record speaks for itself. It's a little tiring hearing how Layton is so great and their players are so good. Let's see when we meet again.

BTW the Utah 2009 class "is" McKenzie Odale of Eagle Idaho and Brooke McAllister from Pleasant Grove Utah, and no word of Kat LeCheminant in the picture. So, Kats mom is in for a suprise.

Go Knights!!

to Layton rocks

Here's the final scoop on Layton's Kat.

"Colleges have noticed her. She got a volleyball scholarship offer from Southern Utah University but wants to play for a program that has more tradition. She also got an offer from the University of Utah, but it just didn't fit.

Kat

She's got one from BYU too. She just has to score 25 on the act to go.

re: Kat

I hear she wants to go to BYU, hoping to be BLUE!

Say what you want the level of VB has dropped since the "Glory Years" of 2001-2006. There are no teams or players currently that hold a candle to he players then>

Re: HS VB Alum

That statement shows even more you bias and ignorance. I dont argue that there we great teams during those years, and unless teams from different years play each other there will never be anything more than opinions. But to say there are no players in the state that hold a candle to those players is just plain ignorant. Have you seen all the players? I have spent the last 10 years watching both high school and club in this state, and there is some incredible talent playing today.

You may want to take a little time to see what happened to all the superstars from those teams and you may be surprised how many of them did not ever finish playing in college or contribute that much. And yes there were many that did great, but to make such blanket statements shows you have blinders on. You continue to make my "Glory Days" point.

to Glory Years

So.....what's your point??? You're trying to say you're better than the girls now? Hmmmm.

Re: GLORY YEARS

Hahahahaha... That's funny. Ridiculous, but funny. Your so-called "glory years" ended 2 years ago. In reality, I feel that overall talent has improved, and continues to improve, but you must have had kids playing from 01-06...
