Great game RSL - one more and it's time for the playoffs!

Nice Win!!! | 2:18 a.m. Oct. 19, 2008
I was at the game for my first visit to Rio Tinto Stadium. The atmosphere was great, the play was great, the scoring was great. I was expecting traffic to be terrible, but it really wasn't that bad. It was easier leaving that game than a Jazz game. The new stadium is fantastic, really is a great venue. Exciting game with lots of scoring = happy fan. Go RSL!!! Playoffs here we come.

Usually, when a team opens a new stadium, it sells out the first several games.

Usually, when a team has a big game, especially the "biggest game in franchise history", the team sells out the game.

So why was the attendance 2380 people short of a sellout?

Sure, it was UEA and the deer hunt, but to hear the stadium apologists talk, the fan base is bigger than that.

And remember, RSL said that to be profitable, they need an average attendance of 17,000 per game. If, for a big game, they can only draw that small a crowd, I hate to think what they are going to average next year....

Too bad you weren't there last night, it was a great match. Did you get your playoff tickets?

About being a man up. Being a man up is not always a huge advantage (they did a study on the Premiership, and it's only worth .3 goals per hour of playing time, which is really not much more than the home field advantage). What happened with RSL was a shot of confidence they'd been lacking after missing the playoffs for 3 years, and after the last two disappointing results.

Being up a man didn't cause Johnson and Findley to get off the prettiest shots of their entire careers--that was BELIEF.
Wow! | 10:34 a.m. Oct. 19, 2008
It was electrifying at the stadium last night. If you haven't been to a game, it's a must do!

How brilliant of an atmosphere was there last night!? It was amazing to have 17,000+ people roaring on the three well earned world class goals. After a game like last night there is no doubt that the stadium will be packed for the playoff match and the 2300 we were short of will be made up for in the one guaranteed playoff match we expect to have. For all of the supporters, well done and thanks for being persistent and patient to get this stadium complete. We will always have the nay sayers, but the truth is, we have a quality product with a quality home that we can be proud of. Keep hating Real Salt Lake, I don't care because I am glad I get to attend such a wonderful event! Even if I have to drive 90 miles each way to get there!

GO RSL!!!

P.S. Can someone let Clint know that he is a waste of a medical bandage?

Huh? | 10:08 p.m. Oct. 19, 2008
Anyone recognize there are less haters writing? i think its since our team does have what it takes and the haters dont have anything to complain about.
I'm with "anonymous", the games have been unforgettable! The fans have been great! i never have had more fun at any other sporting event in my life. RSL needs to keep this group of players, they have heart, and determination Will Johnson showed a prime example of that. Mathis maybe not so much, but him and Kreis seem to be buddy buddy. Go RSL!!! Put Deuchar in before the 89th minute and he'll have time to put 'em away!

Great Win. I am in Europe and I follow all RSL games. Utah is my home and I am very proud that we have a pro soccer team and a great new stadium. Utah should be very proud of having the beautiful game in their state. Go RSL. Bring the playoffs to Utah.
