Of course Texas is refusing to comment on Rosita Swinton. They used Swinton to obtain entry to the multi-family ranch community and turn the place upside down, hauling off children and whatnot. And it's funny how when CPS got on the ranch late that night they started asking questions about polygamy and underage marriage of girls pulled from their beds. I thought they were supposed to be looking for Swinton, er... Sarah. They knew there was no Sarah to begin with. She was just their pretext for the invasion.
zxcvbnm | 5:57 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008

35 million bucks and 393 traumatized innocent children and their parents yet Swinton still remains a "person of interest".

Texas needs to spend a dollar or two on an investigation of Swinton as well as the investigation promised by Meisner concerning conditions at ft Concho.

Keystone cops | 7:06 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008

"No state charges are pending re: Swinton," spokesman Jerry Strickland said in an e-mail to the Deseret News.

--------------------------

The sheer incompetence of the Texas Rangers is amazing. Theyve been investigating this Swinton character since April, and still no charges. They were unable to find Sarah, and months after everyone knew the sixteen-year-old white Sarah was actually the nearly forty black Swinton, they were still looking for poor Sarah. They were unable to find Sarahs so-called abuser, even when put on the phone with him. They didnt bother to interview him until weeks later, and even then they spent just a few minutes doing it. They couldnt find the nine FLDS men they charged, even thought these men were right under their noses, until they finally broke down and gave out the names. What Keystone cops these are! What an embarrassment for Texas!

I have a most excellent question, which should probably be posed to the grand jury in Texas: "Will there be any indictments for persons who made false claims which provided the catalyst for what we might call "The Texas Anti-Polygamy Escapades" (T.A.P.E.)? If not, then WHY not?
Put her in jail | 8:44 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Swinton needs to be put away for the harm she has done and will continue to do if she stays free. This is certainly the most costly hoax (and the Texas law enforcement and CPS have to be the most gullible on the face of the earth) that she has done, but certainly, from the article, this is not the first and probably won't be the last.

She's also an Obama Delegate, right?

hmmm...

echo | 9:54 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
concur Joey - like we didn't see this coming a mile away - shame on Texas- ast least they came out better than the Branch Davidians
SLC gal | 10:57 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
She's an Obama delegate... LOL!!!!!! The part that disturbs me is the article states she may start treatment. She was arrested in March for petes sake!!!! What has she been doing this whole time? Plotting revenge for her 'wrongful imprisonment'. Delaying treatment for someone who is obviously mentall ill is mental illness in itself!!!!!!!!!!!
Utahlady | 11:00 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Agree this was botched, however the polygamy problems still exist. Underage marriage, incest, the states paying welfare for children of wives 2,3,etc.
The expulsion of young men to provide extra wives for the old men and the cheating on taxes. These adults are takers, not givers like the LDS....and they do it all under the blanket of religion.
At least the Texans responded, which is more than Utah and Arizona do. Polygamy is a crime! Adultery is one of the ten commandments. Any suggestions how to cure this ill?
give the idiot a medal | 11:01 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
personally I'd like to give her a medal for exposing the FLDS to the world. At least they will have a much harder time hiding in their little isolated world while they reduce hundreds of children to mini-me's with no hope for a self-determined future.

Come on - let's hear it - "these kids have the same opportunities as any other children..." Yeah - I guess - as long as they're willing to give up everything they know and care about to go off on their own. Hell of a choice. And I'm sure most of you think that's totally fair.

LOL
common sense | 11:09 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
If you would all read the affidavit where the Texas Rangers found out about Rozita Swinton, you would learn that Texas Rangers knew nothing about her, till the 13 of April.
Nice try though.
re: Idiot | 11:13 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Wow...nice attitude there...

lol...Utahlady...saying the FLDS raid was "botched' is the kindest way to phrase it.

I hope Texas fires the whole crew that were involved in the premeditated planning of the raid...especially once it's proven that they knew the call was a hoax.

God bless the lawyers that are fighting for our constitutional rights - and by "our" I mean every US citizen because Texas was sure trying to take them away!

Utahlady | 11:58 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Still no suggestions for solutions!!!..."Give the idiot a medal" sounds frustrated re the treatment of women and young children and limitations they live under, and with good reason. Those of us who witness this close up can see and feel the problems created by this lawbreaking cult,do become frustrated.
God bless anyone who is trying to protect the rights of the FLDS children and the taxpayers too!
Two wrongs do not make a right, and the FLDS need to understand they are infringing on my rights by bringing children into this world and expecting me and others to pay for them ,but they can circumvent the laws of this country, and worse yet the very God they profess to worship. Take away the welfare and tax breaks for not finishing their homes and there will be a lot less of them to support.
Re: Utah Lady | 1:08 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008

Give back your FHA loan, your college grants and loans and pay full price for goods and services made cheaper by government research and perhaps flds will return the food stamp money at yfz........whoops......CPS says there was no government assistance. Go after the government employees that granted the aid.....whoops they followed the law.
Have members give back their SS checks, it's the least you can do.
John Pack Lambert | 1:19 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
I am with SLC gal,
The idea that she "may start treatment" is disturbing. Why has she not been in treatment since last March if not long before that? Preferably in a facility where they keep her from using a phone.
John Pack Lambert | 1:20 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
On the age issue,
Maybe when the Texas authorities see the pictures of Rozita they figure she looks 16. It is not much more preposterous that the ages of some of their disputed minors.

re -idiot 11:13am

I'm waiting for one of the kids to sue their parents for destroying their ability to choose their future and for filling them with fear of the outside world.

Actually, I think a lot of the kids that went to foster care and back will remember that everyone isn't evil and that may allow them to go off into the world and do their own thing. That would at least make the entire episode not a total loss.
the anonymous 1 | 7:03 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Someone please correct me if Im wrong, but isnt this the first time that the Prophetship (?) has been handed off to a son? Seems to me if the whole reason that the FLDS was dreamed up was because of following the polygamous lifestyle with tons of kids. Surely the previous Propheteers (?) had sons they couldve passed it on to. Why this time? Why to Warren? Thats #1.

#2 To hear the FLDS tell it, under-aged marriages NEVER occurred before Warren. Its obvious that Warrens a pedophile, but now hes shamed his entire religion by turning at-one-point innocent men into pedophiles also. And now they are going to go to jail because of what their Pedophile Prophet forced upon them. How come the FLDS religion allows Warren to be a Pedophile Prophet? Poor little girls, and their own mothers wont even protect them. Poor little girls, you deserve much better than this.

Another tabloid reader.....

Sheesh
An Onymous 2 | 7:32 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
#3 Why do the FLDS people give their leaders so much of their money? The FLDS leaders have proven themselves unworthy by blowing their hard-earned money. Warren was caught with $55,000 in the lining of his suitcase. While his brother had another $142,000 of the hard-earned money earmarked to finance their Pedophile Prophets run from his legal and moral responsibilities. All the while continuing to marry little 12-year-old girls. How can the FLDS allow this to happen?

#4 and last. If the FLDS believes EVERY word he speaks, then WHY dont they believe him when he says he is NOT the true Prophet? And that some man in Canada is the TRUE Prophet? Do the local leaders have too much to lose if the Canadian Prophet were to take over? I thought the FLDS religion wasnt about the money?

Ask why the Catholics contribute to their church after the priest scandal.......ask why people follow any religious leader.
Millions are made by churches to spread the word of God and some.....hopefully a minority of religious leaders, are crooks.
The money on Jeffs was accounted for in his notes and the "leadership" was aware of the uses for the money. Much of the cash was being transported to other church locations for church work.
I am sure that some money was fir Jeffs personal use but in reality a man on the run has to deal in cash to be untraceable and other than a church owned car he wasn't seen hitting the gambling halls.
The guy...Jeffs .....may have been a religious nut and he certainly wasn't an accountant. The man was in over his head.

Multiple personality disorder is suffered by people who have been severely abused. If Rosita Swinton was a normal person who caused the State of Texas to unnecessarily spend $40 plus million on a raid where no abuse took place, she would most certainly go to jail. But, Rosita Swinton appears to be the victim of a mental illness due to severe mistreatment and she caused a raid on a compound where apparently some abuse has occurred. Oddly enough this person who struggles so much in life, managed to halt the abuse of so many other girls. Maybe her experience as an abuse victim has given her a talent of playacting an abuse victim.

If Texas would have conducted itself in the same manner after hearing from a legitimate informant who had relayed the truth, then perhaps the only harm that was done to the state was to make it look foolish in acting upon a report from an illegitimate caller. That the call was not based on actual fact may also harm the admissibility of evidence.

Given Swinton's diagnosis, her conditions for probation were probably inappropriate. She should be treated in inpatient care.
zxcvbnm | 10:43 a.m. Oct. 20, 2008

Gal 50............if wishes were fishes.....
If Texas would have used the three days to investigate the hoax call rather than gather the troops.......if LE would have used some sense when they were on the phone with the alleged abuser .....if CPS would not have removed 400+ children that were not in "emminent danger"..........if Voss had not detained 37 year old teenagers.........
if if if if if Texas would have followed the law then the 40 million could be used to help people with mental problems like Swinton.

per zxcvbnm and grandpa phil, these people are innocent of all issues, and should be left alone.

there are no underage marriages, they treat all their members fairly and equally, they all get as much education as they want, the children are free to choose what they want to do when they grow up - with no strings attached like "don't come back" - and its none of our business no matter what they are doing anyway.

we are persecuting a harmless group of religious worshipers that have done nothing wrong. We are evil. They are good.

wow - I feel so dirty now...
zxcvbnm | 6:14 p.m. Oct. 20, 2008

Do not put words in my mouth RC.......spread more false rumors if you wish but refrain from the mis catagorizing my words .....that seems to be an exflds habit and even you are better than that.
realitycheck | 2:47 p.m. Oct. 21, 2008
I'm merely saying exactly what you've been saying. Not putting words in your mouth - just repeating your words (obviously for sarcasm effect). But your words nonetheless.

If you don't like the words, don't say them. It's ok for you to say it but if repeated it sounds so lame you get mad?

Dude - read your posts - the FLDS can do no wrong in your opinion. You and Phil have said it over and over. How can you take offense if I repeat your stance?
realitycheck | 3:53 p.m. Oct. 21, 2008
moderator - if you would be so kind as to allow this -

zxcvbnm
You still seem to be missing my whole issue with the way the children are being raised. If you want to really understand my point, read the article "Confessions of a former Apostolic". Google and you'll see exactly why I've been saying that the children are being held back. And that's not even half of what the FLDS do in raising their children.

I know - they're free to do it and it's their right. Still doesn't make it FAIR to the children, and definitely holds them back from "being all they can be". (And I don't mean the Army.)
zxcvbnm | 4:17 p.m. Oct. 21, 2008

hahahahahahahahahahahahahah..........keep it up RC.......you are still doing it. The standard ex-flds mantra of twisting or making a worse case argument for relatively inocuous events.
Twist it turn it or spin it.......show you the proof and repeat the gossip.......way to go dude..
It is not that the flds has done no wrong they just haven't been treated fairly and the vast majority of them have been released from oversight while the charges for the nine members are in all probability unconstitutional........we will see in the long run.
I suggest you spend your time looking up facts rather than throwing mud.......you are getting very dirty.
Start with a list of ex-flds charges that have been proven wrong. You will need several sheets of paper. Next, go to the SCOTEX and US 5th circuit court ruleings.......throw in a few witnesses that have never been to YFZ and finish off with CPS and State reports on the education achievements of flds kids.
But hey RC.......the stuff is out there and you refuse to read it. I base my position on the facts and the law...........not rumor and gossip.
So sit down and make a list....if you need some help I'm right here.
realitycheck | 5:07 p.m. Oct. 21, 2008
hahaha - too funny, zxcvbnm. There you go with the law again.

what does the law have to do with it? my issue isn't a legal matter, so your argument is invalid.

Try to address the issues I bring up rather than just repeat the same "it's legal" talk.

did you read the article? obviously not or you would at least somewhat understand what I am talking about.

But that's ok - ignorance is bliss, and like you and Phil have said before - "not my kids so I don't care"...

Fortunately, some of us do care.
