We need the HD version of "the MTN" as soon as possible. The Sd version looks really silly at my 50' plasma TV. Go HD!
What annoys me is that once it was on DirectTV, Craig Thompson just took off his shoes, popped his feet up on the sofa, and relaxed. And now he's telling all Dish Network subscribers to switch to Direct because their negotiations aren't going anywhere.
Guess what, Craig!? That's not good enough. YOU and the school presidents got us into this mess, YOU need to fix this. Get the Mtn. on Dish Network. Your job is not done.
I still have to go to an in-laws house to watch the dang game, just because I have Dish.
The Mtn. channel is a joke. The Mtn. deal is a joke. No one nationally is going to cover us because they don't want that hideous thing known as the Mtn. showing on their highlight reel.
How do we get out of this deal?
I heard a rumor that Direct TV had signed to telecast The Mtn football games only, not basketball. Does anyone know if that is true or not?
HD is way off for the mtn. Right now it is not even SD.
I'm very happy with the MTN. I watch the Tuesday and Friday shows as well. The camera work is better than last year, but I love following the conference. He's right, before we complain about the HD, just be grateful it's on DirectTV sportpack.
As HD becomes the standard, there's no way they can hold out on it(if they ever want fans to be content with that channel).
Once they're on Dish Network and in HD, it'll be much easier to overlook the inept announcers and shoddy camera work.
the experiment failed - the conference has fallen into obscurity - little to no comments on ESPN as a result and the camera work is like watching a high school game. The announcers a major homers and have no clue. Even more irritating is putting key games on Versus - I live in Boise and have the MTN but no access to the Versus and there is no way to access the games to view online - get with the program.
Maybe this is why the conference has its champion play the 4th place pac 10 team as a reward.
fix it now
It is great that you get to see the MTN if you have DirecTV, but don't underestimate the fact that people who aren't normal fans of the Mountain West aren't seeing these games. That has a huge impact on rankings. Someone living in the midwest or east are not going to search for a Mountain West game. If it isn't right in front of them they won't watch it. That can be good and bad, but exposure always helps. D'OH
So, everyone is just happy with being able to see the games right now! The mtn production are far from good football watching. It is a disgrace to the MWC, to put this crap on TV and the fact that it is not in HD and every other game is in HD on other networks just adds to the MWC disgrace.
How does this guy sleep at night? I heard him during the TCU-BYU game last night make his ridiculous comments about how the MWC has so many games that are broadcast to a national audience, etc., etc Give me a break. McCain and Obama make less spurious, mis-leading arguments.
The MWC has games broadcast on the Mtn which is national, if you consider the high tier "Choice" package on DirectTV as being national, but, as has been mentioned, the quality is awful, the programs are very amateur, and the commentary is silly. In fact, even when they show highlights on ESPN (rare, but sometimes they do) they look bad because of the SD broadcast and the camera angles.
Thompson needs to stand up, be a man, honestly admit the current state of the MWC Television coverage and then go to work and fix it. Or, better yet, step down and let somebody else take care of the problem.
Thanks for the article Scott...keep up the heat.
Why can't BYU get a contract with BYU-TV to see all the football games? It was great seeing the Utah State game on BYU-TV.
There has to be a clause somewhere that says if the Mtn does not perform for the University, the University has the right to get someone that will perform.
Any game not being shown by Mtn, or VERSUS, or CBS sports, should be shown on BYU-TV and that should be in the contract. Fox Sports/ESPN/ABC/NBC would be welcome over the BYU-TV but in the absence of any listed above, BYU-TV should have an automatic licence to show BYU Football.
Look at the greed and lack of concern for the fans...its pathetic. What is going on here that you can't allow someone else to broadcast Utah vs. Byu?? I'm sure you can find Fox 13, KUTV, or KSL to do it, do just a regional broadcast for crying out loud! I am a Dish Network subscriber but that should not matter!!! DESTROY the stupid MTN. and let us watch the MWC somewhere else and in HD to boot!!! REAL National Coverage is vital to show all of these BCS "Top Teams" (cough) that alot of these smaller conferences but especially the MWC is just as good if not better. Pac-10 a-ringin' a bell? Get over the money and "Complete Control" complex and do whatever you have to figure out how to fix this debacle!
