Let me be the first to say congrats Jordan. As much as I'm not a digger fan and would have loved to see you lose, I really dislike Skyline and love to see them lose. Really didn't expect you guys to suddenly pull out a bunch of wins after so many losses but you did so as much as I hate to say it good job. I guess your real test is next week...
Oh no, here comes Jordan! Let's see if they can make if past the first round this year.
I would like to congratulate Jordan on their win. I think Jordan may have surprised us a little, but they deserved the win and played a great game. Congrats to their players and coaches. For the previous Alta comment.. Perhaps your comment was posted with a slight bit of fear. If Jordan plays like they did last night, Alta may get their test next week.
Let me be the first to put it out here.... When is some High School in need of a good head coach going to steal Eric Kjar away from Jordan. In the five years as offensive coordinator, the Beetdiggers have been pretty much unstoppable. I'd hate to see Jordan lose such a fine young man, but His days there are numbered. Maybe this is the year the stars align and we can see them at Rice Eccles.
Skyline may be coached by mostly the same staff that was dominant for nearly twenty years, but it is not the same Skyline. The players don't have the same swagger. The players don't play with the same confidence. I'm willing to bet that when the Skyline team takes the field, they don't know in their heart that they will win.
"In the day," it meant something to wear the gold helmet. It meant something to be a part of something that was so much bigger than yourself. It meant something to have bought into a program, along with EVERY teammate. It meant something to know in your heart, that if you came up short, the team came up short, and the disappointment of letting down your team and coaches was unbearable to imagine.
Skyline was successful because they did things different. They warmed up on a separate field, they were uniform down to the color of t-shirt under their pads, everyone shaved their heads - everyone. I guess the concept of team has made way to the disease of the individual.
Eagles, take care of business.
Kjar, please come take over the sad Bengal program. I can picture it now: "Kjar leads Bengals to 5A title while blowing away Jordan and Alta on the way". Wow, that sounds so good.
i got jordan in the upset of the week 42-38 jordan barely pulls it off
I played for coach Kjar a few years back. He is an excellent coach, and completly capable of coaching at a college level. He turns out a great offense every year. He has far less players feeding into Jordan than any other 5a school. I find it interesting that many of his players are leaving the high school that they are supposed to play at, to have a chance to work with Kjar. A.they know they will play B. they will be coached by one of the states best coaches. Good luck Coach Kjar and good job.
Just as a clarification. I'm not saying that the Skyline coaches recruited players. I believe having a good program recruited players.
I think coaches, parents, or the community recruiting is wrong (and even worse in youth sprots), but I think if the program is good and that is what recruits players (or players just want to play with friends) then that is ok.
So, again I don't think Skyline has recruited in a bad way in the past. I just don't think the football team/program is good enough to recruit kids anymore.
For the reasons you just stated is why Skyline was the dynasty they were. They were the most feared team for years. Talent isn't always there year in and year out for schools, but when your held to a higher standard and play with heart, good things happen. This is coming from someone that doesn't even like Skyline and is a region 1 fan. Teams that play with heart and pride and a some talent=championships
Why would Kjar ever leave Jordan for Brighton? The only way Kjar leaves Jordan is if it's for a Division 1 university. Keep dreaming bengal coach.
You could not have said it any better. As an ex-Eagle, one of the last with a record lots better than .500 it really is sad. These are the best years of your life. Take advantage and don't look past them.
to Digger Observer: Anyone with people skills can lead the talent Jordan has to victory. The real question is why Jordan hasn't gone further? Year in and year out, they have had the talent. Don't hold your breath about a Digger appearance at Rice-Eccles. It won't happen. You will see Riverton or Kearns play there before you will Jordan - with or without Kjar.
Coach kjar is a offensive mastermind. Soon enough he will get the attention he deserves
it will start with the region 2 championship, end with the state championship, BACK TO BACK!
in 98' Skyline beat Jordan for the state championship..they had 6 jordan boundary kids starting for them. this year none....big surprise why they are no longer the juggernaut they used to be...all their recruits now go to cottonwood or bingham....good luck next week diggers
I'd be willing to bet that Hamilton is a better coach...
is played in Utah County! SL County teams are weak in all classifications.
Anyone who thinks that Jordan has more talent than Skyline, Alta, Bingham, Riverton, etc. is clueless. Like it or not, Coach Kjar is the real deal. If he had coached at Alta or Bingham the last five years, either of those schools would be four-time defending state champions.
Jordan cant go anywhere in the playoffs is... Pleasant Grove. Knocked them out 2 of the last 3 years. PG owns jordan. 5-0 all time againt jordan
