Anything is possible; even if it's a million-to-one long shot, there's still a one-in-a-million chance.

Don't bet the ranch on it, but...

just the fact that the National media, not just the local media, are discussing it, shows there is a chance that BYU or Utah or Boise St COULD be playing in Tempe, or New Orleans, or Pasedena, or even Miami THIS SEASON.

The fact that it "outrages" elistists is further proof that it's a possibility, otherwise the elitists would simply dismiss the idea as casually as they would dismiss the chances of catching the next shuttle to Jupiter.

Just watch. The louder and more vehemently the elitists squawk, the closer such possibilities are to becoming reality.

Many of the elistists simply can't fathom one of their own, a team like Duke or Vanderbilt or Northwestern, playing for a national championship, let alone an upstart from a conference in the far reaches of the galaxy, which is exactly how they perceive the MWC and WAC are in their pointy little elitist minds.

As a cougar fan, I can only say that I feel the intensity mounting for this game against TCU. It's the biggest game for BYU in the last several years. I think BYU can give any team in the country a good game when they play well. The reason they are ranked 8 & 9 goes back to last season when the winning streak started. All coaches know how difficult it is to win 16 games in a row... it doesn't really matter who the opponents are (USC did not expect to lose to Stanford last year or to Oregon State this year.)

It used to be that I loved it whenever Utah lost. However, I've softened over the years and I pull for any MWC team in a non-conference game and I hope Utah stays undefeated until the BYU-Utah seaon finale regardless of what happens between BYU-TCU thurday night. I hope the Cougars are ready. I'm sure they can feel the pressure to keep winning and prove they belong.

@ re: magnus (1:17)

Good point. TCU has had 7 of their 8 total turnovers in their last 3 games, as compared to BYU who has only had 2 of their 9 in their last three. This bodes well for the Cougars.

However it should be noted that both of those games (CSU and Oklahoma) were on the road and this upcoming game is at home where TCU has only turned the ball over once in three games.

Turnovers will be the key in this one.

Lots of knowledgeable arm-chair quarterbacks out blogging today, aren't there? Well, I'm just gonna sit back and watch the game with a Cougar blue T-shirt on and knock back a 7-Up or two!!

Go Cougs! Prove yourselves!!

Beating ONE undefeated, 11-0, Top 10, possibly Top 5, team at the end of the season is

MUCH MUCH BETTER

than beating 2 teams ranked in the bottom 1/3rd of the Top 25.
Re: Blah blah | 3:37 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
This was an associated press article, not DN. Salt Lake Tribune has plenty to write about the Cougs as well.

BYU's in a lose-lose situation in the view of pollsters in the west. The West understands how weak TCU is and a BYU victory mean just about as much as a win over bo-didly tech. On the other hand, TCU has a defense that will take advantage of opportunities, so if the Cougars are to lax on the offensive side of the ball, they could easily see their winning streak become a one game winless streak.
The Utes would love to see this, as they already have a fairly strong strength of schedule (SOS for you donkeys out there) and a win by TCU would make it better for the Utes as they would beat two ranked teams, boosting their chances of a good BCS game.
Cougars beware and Utes....please take it easy on the rams. A 21 point win will suffice.

Cheers!

Being in a BCS game...it is awesome...testifico first hand.

Cougar fans love to speculate about the BCS game they still need to earn this year.

There is no chance at a NC game or Rose Bowl appearance for any non-BCS team and the reality is that BYU has not done anything until they prove they can do what Utah and Boise State have done which is appear and win a BCS game.

With the first road test of the year against a solid opponent, I would not be surprised to see BYU lose to TCU and all this talk will go away.
re: Frogs | 3:38 p.m. | 6:05 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
The Utes "already have a fairly strong strength of schedule" ??? hahaha

Here's a clue, stop drinking the red koolaid.

Utah's SOS is 72nd and falling.

BYU's SOS is 121st and rising.

By the time they play on November 22nd their SOS will be within 20 places of each other.

Which will mean exactly, zilch!

The head-to-head matchup between the Utes and Cougars will decide everything regardless of how BYU or Utah does against TCU.

Unless of course Utah pulls one of their typical vanishing acts and loses to a team like Colorado St or New Mexico.

come on. mwc sucks...especially byu. we all know bsu could beat both byu and utah. bsu has a better bcs chance than utah and byu combined
LAS VEGAS BOWL | 9:53 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
BYU loses to TCU

BYU defeats UTAH

UTAH defeats TCU

BYU plays the fourth or fifth place team from the PAC-10 in the LAS VEGAS BOWL.

UTAH plays "WHOMEVER" in the "I can't believe we got beat by them again, but we're greatful we get to go somewhere" BOWL.

PLEASE KEEP ALL SHARP OBJECTS AWAY FROM BYU AND UTAH FANS!

National Media | 10:29 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
It isn't just the local Utah media that is talking about BYU in the NC, it is on CBS, SI, USA Today, and ESPN among others. Is it a long shot? Yes. Could it happen. Definitely, but it would take BYU running the table (obviously) as well as Utah winning every game (except the BYU game) and it would take some key losses in the other BCS conferences. Basically every other top 10 team would have to have two losses, which could potentially happen if you analyze the schedules of teams like PSU, 'Bama, Texas, etc...

It would take a miracle and for the stars to align, but isn't that what happened in 1984?
The MWC is for Real! | 10:55 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I spent a week in VA last week with college football coaches. They all consider the MWC better
than their ACC and 3rd only behind the SEC and Big12 this season. BYU, UTAH and TCU are indeed
respected and highly esteemed back East.
The VS. games are welcomed by true college football
fans in VA.

To Irony:

BSU also played a Wednesday night game a couple weeks ago on ESPN. Last year they played two Sunday night games, on ESPN. I think those situations are ones BYU and other MWC teams wanted to avoid with ESPN, as well as horrible start times for games.

Great article from the AP wire. This was not a Des News columnist. The implications are huge and possible, but winning is the only way to make it work for BYU or UTAH. TCU could also be in the running if they win out. Anyway, it is fun to see mid major's beating up on storied programs as parity has arrived. Any team could beat any team on any given Saturday as we have seen this year and last year. Go Cougars and beat the Horned Frogs on Thursday. I will have to leave work early just to listen over the internet.
Anti-PC Infidel | 11:50 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
If the MWC were like the SEC, Pac-10, Big 12, Big 10, etc., and just had a couple of dominant teams and a bunch of patsies along for the ride, they would have more undefeated seasons. Unfortunately, the average strength of teams in the MWC is higher than that of those other teams, and MWC schools don't include 2 or 3 high school teams in their schedules like SEC, etc., teams do, so MWC teams will almost always knock each other out of the picture.
People respect BYU | 12:49 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Anyone noticed that Utah has beaten better teams than BYU, but they are ranked lower than the Cougs? People nationally respect BYU and expect to see great things. There are many storied programs that are ranked lower than BYU (or not ranked at all... where are Miami and Florida State?). But, enough talking: Let's play some ball and have the players on the field make the case.

Don't bet the ranch on the BYU-TCU game? No problem, because the ranch was just foreclosed on and all my stocks are in the tank.
re: Idahoan | 1:21 a.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Irony here. I know BSU played those games last year - but again, they were on the national stage at a time when no other games were on, and in prime time no less. I am just saying, that the MWC is now pining for exposure, when they would have had all the exposure in the world, on ESPN, had they not made the jump to CSTV. I'd take the occasional Wednesday night (if it is coming after a bye week, it actually gives you a week and half off between two games) if it meant you are the only game on prime time ESPN that night.
