Phew! Thought every article was going to be about soccer today!

Go Lancers!!!!!
Region 9 | 6:01 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Get your facts straight! Your Region 9 4A playoff fact is wrong. If Snow Canyon beats Pine View (unlikely) and beats Dixie (possible) Snow Canyon will win the region championship. If Snow Canyon losses to Pine View (likely) and beats Dixie (possible)Snow Canyon will go as the 2nd place region 9 team. See Mr. Felt, the Region 9 mess even has you all screwed up!
Re: Region 9 | 6:44 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Wrong again ! If Dixie and SC are tied 1-1, then Dixie is 2nd because SC lost to 3A Hurricane.

If Dixie and Snow Canyon are 1-1, then mathematically so would Pine View be 1-1 and the 3 way tie would prove UHSAA has work to do. Surprise...
Region 9 Mess | 7:41 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
To both of you, RE: Region 9 and Region 9, if there is a tie for the final play-off spot by the rules of the UHSAA there must be a play-in game to decide the final playoff birth out of that region.

So do not be suprised if snow canyon and dixie have to play twice to get in the play-offs.
Re: Re: Region 9 | 8:06 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Thats right! But that wasnt one of the scenarios that was in my first post. So I was wrong about nothing. Bottom line is if Snow Canyon beats Dixie- Dixie is done!
Region 9 | 8:16 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Impossible to have them play twice

Pineview beats both of them, Dixie beats SC and Timo is maybe the best player in state history to never go to the playoffs.
Anonymous | 8:23 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I've heard that if there was a three way tie then SC would be out after there loss to Hurricane. I don't blame Des News for nor figuring it out. I don't know how the UHSAA can justify a region where theoretically a 2-8 Team could be a region champion with a #1 seed in the playoffs. Quit giving teams like Orem, MV, and Provo free passes to the playoffs and give us a real region. Getting pounded by Timpview once a year is a fair tradeoff for beating Payson, Provo, Orem, and Mountain View and getting an easy bid. But whatever, I'm a PV fan and I'm perfectly content with beating Dixie and SC year in and year out for a #1 seed and a patty cake game against the fourth or fifth best 4A Salt Lake, Provo, or Cache Valley School
Re: Region 9 Mess | 8:50 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
You are right too. However, the only way there can be a tie this year is if Snow Canyon beats Pine View and then losses to Dixie. Then all three would be 1-1. The tiebreaker is their records against the Region 9 3A teams in which case Pine View and Dixie would go to the playoffs because they both are 3-0 against Region 9 3A teams. Pine View would be the 1st seed because they beat Dixie. Thats the fact!
Re: Region 9 Mess | 8:58 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Your scenario of Snow Canyon and Dixie playing twice is not a possibility this year due to the fact that they would have to be 1-1 which would make Pine View 1-1 in which case there would be not just a 2 Way tie but a 3. Follow me?
Anonymous | 9:10 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Timo not only has been to the playoffs, he made the state championship game against Bear River. He was the only bright spot in that game after racking up I think almost 200 yds in the semis.

Wasn't that PV last year;

"Getting pounded by Timpview once a year"...
Region 9.5 | 9:34 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
There is no scenario that has two of the three tied. It's all three tied or a clear #1, #2, and #3. Maybe in basketball or baseball when they play more than once but not in football.
It's just got to be a playoff mentality from here out for all of us. Some are good under pressure and will thrive while other will choke. It's no different than other years it just comes earlier now.
FRiDAY NiGHT RiDER | 10:12 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Although I agree with a lot of your predictions HSFAN, there is no way Lone Peak will make it to the state championship, especially if they have to play Layton and Bingham. Lone Peak has choked in all of their big games this year. I am predicting a Pleasant Grove vs. Bingham state championship.
predictions | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
not bad except it will be Layton beating Lone Peak and then beating Bingham so there will be a rematch of the Layton Alta final.....and unfortunately for the Lancers the Hawks are just too good on defense and have too many weapons again. Bingham has looked good now that they are playing in their weak region but once the playoffs begin it will be another story for them.
PG sure has an easy road....
Anonymous | 10:20 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008
All three teams in 4-A Region 9 could finish 1-1. I would doubt that there would be any tiebreaker that would be used to break the tie other than a play-off on Tuesday. In other regions, if there is a tie for the last qualifying position, there is always a play-off, even if one team had beat the other head to head earlier in the season, when a state berth is on the line (not the seed but the actual berth), there must be a game. What would be likely is that the Prinipals would flip a coin. The "winner of the flip" would be deemed the second place team, the other two would then play on Tuesday with the winner being designated first place and the loser completely out of the play-offs.
This is the system that has been commonly used when three teams are tied for two berths.

However, the reality is that is unlikely as if PV defeates Snow Canyon this week they are in and then the next week Snow Canyon would play Dixie with the winner of that game going to state, the loser staying home.

RE: HSFAN | 9:29 a.m. Oct. 15, 2008

I watched the LP vs. Bingham game. I know this is going to fire up LP fans, but in all honesty it wasn't even close. Bingham was still working through some position changes and when they get a lead, the run the clock. If they wanted to score 50 on LP, they could have easily. It really does not matter because there is NO WAY Lone Peak would ever beat Layton, even if they played 10 times.

I know you played PG tough, but for some reason everyone is high on PG after a close loss to TV and the 25-3 beat down on Riverton, but PG is not in the same class as Atla, Jordan, Bingham, or the Region 1 teams.

Re:HSFAN 9:29...Whose Gym clothes have you been sniffing? Lone Peak was so pathetic when Bingham played them you would have thought they were in region 3 along with WJ and Kearns. Good thing you have Lehi and Timp in your region or all you'd see of the playoffs is what the news shows on tv. Bingham v. Alta.... 24-21 BINGHAM.
Re: Pounded | 12:05 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Hasn't that been the last 30 teams to play Timpview? Just because we took the risk instead of curling up in a ball, running clock, and taking a less embarrassing loss. Nobody ever talks about how we went 13-1 in our first season as a 4A team and knocked around nearly Skyview in the semis.
HSFAN | 12:33 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I was wondering if anyone would call me on my prediction of Lone Peak vrs Alta for the Championship.....seeing how I have said it is going to be ALTA vrs Bingham in all my other posts!!

Its all over but the shouting Lone will beat Layton, but will lose big to Bingham!!

Alta will beat Bingham for the repeat!

Hawks are the State Champs..UHSAA can inscribe the Championship trophy today....nothing is going to change the outcome!

Region 4 is tougher than Region 1 and the playoffs will prove it! Lone Peak and PG will advance farther than any other team in Region 1!

HSFAN:

I think you are right for the most part. Replace Lone Peek with Skyline and I think you have the way it will end up.

Alta VS Skyline in the finals. I sure hope "THE DUP" has another one in his hat for that match up. Could be ugly.
My Predictions | 1:23 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
correction: 3. Syracuse 4. Northridge
LP Supporter | 1:24 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I love LP, but against very big, athletic teams they can't come through.

The beating they took at TV and Bingham was rough.

LP could beat any other teams with the exception of Alta. LP can beat Layton or Skyline. Will they? Time will tell.

LP could lose to anyone also.

Good luck to all teams! No serious injuries.
really? | 2:02 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
i don't mean to be a "hater" but i don't think LP is as good as everyone thinks. i think alta is going to the championship as well as northridge. i think when N ridge has to put it together i think they will. and we all know how dominate alta has been so you can't argue aganist them.

Re: My predictions. It looks ok. But how does LP move on to face Layton if they didn't get by Jordan.
Juab fact is incorrect | 2:21 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
We have only had one undefeated regular season in 1997. In 2004, We were 6-0 and then lost to Juan Diego and Millard in back to back weeks and lost in the title game to Juan Diego and finished 10-3 that year. So tonight is our chance to have an undefeated regular season for the 2nd team. And Juab has never won the 2A state title...It would be fitting if our first title was our last year in 2A. Keep it up Juab, break the curse, take state!
waiting | 2:40 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I'm waiting to see what happens between LP and Spanish before I make any predictions in region 4.
KG | 2:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
All this hooplah about Region 9 is ridiculous. The teams from up north are so arrogant as to think that there are no good teams from the south. The south thinks they are better than the north. Just shut up and play and let the chips fall.

I think the whole split region idea is stupid. They ought to make all of the St. George schools 4A, along with Hurricane. Let Cedar and Canyon View join the current 3A Region 8. But to make schools of different classifications compete in the same region is just stupid. No one has anything go gain that way. Even more stupid is the situation of Uintah next year where they are the only 4A school in their region. It is hard enough for Region 9 schools to be fairly guaged and seeded into state competition. How will Uintah ever be fairly seeded when they have no league play with another 4A school? Just plain stupid, for lack of a better word.
predictions | 2:56 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
having seen all of the top teams in 5A play at least once there are big differences even in the top 5.
1- Alta - defense is too good, offense has too many weapons. Turnover's and penalties will be the only way anyone beats them this year. Special teams is a big weakness though.
2- Layton - they haven't been healthy all season, they'll peak and make the finals but don't have the depth to beat Alta. Should be closer than last year's final, but Alta will win by 2 TD's.
3- Bingham - If they can control the ball they have a chance against Layton but they're a step below where they've been in the past 2 years.
4- Jordan - a step below the top 3, should beat Skyline in a close one tonight.
5- Skyline - didn't even compete with Alta, the Bingham game will be their highlight this year.

nobody else in 5A has a chance, PG can't compete with the depth and size of the top 5 teams.

Now 09 could be a Jordan/Alta battle.....Jordan will be very good and Alta could be better than this year.
LP? | 3:02 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I have to be honest, I am very surprised at the hype for LP, they don't seem good. I watched the highlight film (posted on this website) from the game and LP scored both of their touchdowns from bad PG mistakes, in fact they gifted them 14 points early, and then came back to win after getting their act together.

I don't see the hype; in fact, I love PG and their D seems really good, but they don't seem to be that fluent on offense, nothing like Alta or Bingham.

As a PG alum I hope for the best, I know that while many of PG's players are undersized, their is a certain level of heart and commitment that is always in that team.

My prediction: Alta wins it beating Bingham, Layton and PG both losing in the semi's

I dare you to prove me wrong Vikings.
SF can't beat LP | 3:27 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
SF was Blown out by Hunter, no way they beat LP, they would be last in Region 1 and 5th in Region 3.
HSFAN | 3:45 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
bleedblueandgold: Dupaix is one of the classacts in High School Football...It would be awesome if it could be a Region 2 State Finals...But Skyline has about as much chance as McCain.....Lets hope Roger can create some "Eagle Frenzy"!

Just FYI if no one else updated on this but Mountain View and Dixie are not playing this week. Dixie cancelled the game

Curious, doesn't the person that made the predictions at 2:56 PM today, want to reveal who they are. You spent all that time posting it. Just wondering.

"nobody else in 5A has a chance, PG can't compete with the depth and size of the top 5 teams."

Lets see, you had your top 5 as
1)Alta
2)Layton
3)Bingham
4)Jordan
5)Skyline

Just for your info, Last time PG played Layton, PG won 38-14.

Also, PG has beat Jordan both times they have squared off.

Its too early to say whether or not PG could beat Alta/ Bingham, but to say that PG cant measure up with those top 5 of yours is ridiculous. GO VIKINGS!!
bleedblueandgold | 5:31 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
HSFAN:

I pretty much agree with you but if any lower level team has a chance it's one coached by the "Duper". Remember 2005? By this point in the 05 season my Eagles were in a worse spot then they are in now and ended up taking the whole ball of wax!

Tonights game against the beetdiggers is the real test. If they win it could mean trouble for Alta and the other big boys come November.

George Felt was my Scout Master when I was a kid and is a true blue Eagles fan so I know what I am talking about.

Never count Skyline out until they are out!
True Blue Layton Fan | 5:41 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
I think for obvious reasons PG is above Skyline & Jordan, no question and no doubt about it.

When did PG last beat Layton? If it's before last year, it's irrelevant. High school teams change every 2 years.....assuming the entire team isn't comprised of Sophs.

Off to Viewmont I go. I may be giving Viewmont too many pts. L 34 V 13.
RE: Juab fact is incorrect | 8:42 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
The undefeated regular season of 1997 was in fact the second one for Juab. I had the opportunity to play for the undefeated team of 1995 and wish that team would not be forgotten.
