Phew! Thought every article was going to be about soccer today!

Go Lancers!!!!!

Region 9

Get your facts straight! Your Region 9 4A playoff fact is wrong. If Snow Canyon beats Pine View (unlikely) and beats Dixie (possible) Snow Canyon will win the region championship. If Snow Canyon losses to Pine View (likely) and beats Dixie (possible)Snow Canyon will go as the 2nd place region 9 team. See Mr. Felt, the Region 9 mess even has you all screwed up!

Re: Region 9

Wrong again ! If Dixie and SC are tied 1-1, then Dixie is 2nd because SC lost to 3A Hurricane.

Region 9

If Dixie and Snow Canyon are 1-1, then mathematically so would Pine View be 1-1 and the 3 way tie would prove UHSAA has work to do. Surprise...

Region 9 Mess

To both of you, RE: Region 9 and Region 9, if there is a tie for the final play-off spot by the rules of the UHSAA there must be a play-in game to decide the final playoff birth out of that region.

So do not be suprised if snow canyon and dixie have to play twice to get in the play-offs.

Re: Re: Region 9

Thats right! But that wasnt one of the scenarios that was in my first post. So I was wrong about nothing. Bottom line is if Snow Canyon beats Dixie- Dixie is done!

Region 9

Impossible to have them play twice

Pineview beats both of them, Dixie beats SC and Timo is maybe the best player in state history to never go to the playoffs.

I've heard that if there was a three way tie then SC would be out after there loss to Hurricane. I don't blame Des News for nor figuring it out. I don't know how the UHSAA can justify a region where theoretically a 2-8 Team could be a region champion with a #1 seed in the playoffs. Quit giving teams like Orem, MV, and Provo free passes to the playoffs and give us a real region. Getting pounded by Timpview once a year is a fair tradeoff for beating Payson, Provo, Orem, and Mountain View and getting an easy bid. But whatever, I'm a PV fan and I'm perfectly content with beating Dixie and SC year in and year out for a #1 seed and a patty cake game against the fourth or fifth best 4A Salt Lake, Provo, or Cache Valley School

Re: Region 9 Mess

You are right too. However, the only way there can be a tie this year is if Snow Canyon beats Pine View and then losses to Dixie. Then all three would be 1-1. The tiebreaker is their records against the Region 9 3A teams in which case Pine View and Dixie would go to the playoffs because they both are 3-0 against Region 9 3A teams. Pine View would be the 1st seed because they beat Dixie. Thats the fact!

Re: Region 9 Mess

Your scenario of Snow Canyon and Dixie playing twice is not a possibility this year due to the fact that they would have to be 1-1 which would make Pine View 1-1 in which case there would be not just a 2 Way tie but a 3. Follow me?

Timo not only has been to the playoffs, he made the state championship game against Bear River. He was the only bright spot in that game after racking up I think almost 200 yds in the semis.

Doesn't matter

Since the majority don't care about region 9

HSFAN

State Playoff Predictions

Round 1
Lone Peak beats Skyline
Layton beats Riverton

Bingham beats Davis
Jordan beats Spanish Fork

Kearns beats Syracuse
Pleasant Grove beats Brighton

Alta beats Viewmont
Northridge beats Hunter

Round 2

Lone Peak beats Layton
Bingham beats Jordan

Pleasant Grove beats Kearns
Alta Beats Northridge

Round 3

Lone Peak beats Bingham

Alta beats Pleasant Grove

Final

Alta over Lone Peak!

Pounded?

Wasn't that PV last year;

"Getting pounded by Timpview once a year"...

Region 9.5

There is no scenario that has two of the three tied. It's all three tied or a clear #1, #2, and #3. Maybe in basketball or baseball when they play more than once but not in football.
It's just got to be a playoff mentality from here out for all of us. Some are good under pressure and will thrive while other will choke. It's no different than other years it just comes earlier now.

Although I agree with a lot of your predictions HSFAN, there is no way Lone Peak will make it to the state championship, especially if they have to play Layton and Bingham. Lone Peak has choked in all of their big games this year. I am predicting a Pleasant Grove vs. Bingham state championship.

predictions

not bad except it will be Layton beating Lone Peak and then beating Bingham so there will be a rematch of the Layton Alta final.....and unfortunately for the Lancers the Hawks are just too good on defense and have too many weapons again. Bingham has looked good now that they are playing in their weak region but once the playoffs begin it will be another story for them.
PG sure has an easy road....

All three teams in 4-A Region 9 could finish 1-1. I would doubt that there would be any tiebreaker that would be used to break the tie other than a play-off on Tuesday. In other regions, if there is a tie for the last qualifying position, there is always a play-off, even if one team had beat the other head to head earlier in the season, when a state berth is on the line (not the seed but the actual berth), there must be a game. What would be likely is that the Prinipals would flip a coin. The "winner of the flip" would be deemed the second place team, the other two would then play on Tuesday with the winner being designated first place and the loser completely out of the play-offs.
This is the system that has been commonly used when three teams are tied for two berths.

However, the reality is that is unlikely as if PV defeates Snow Canyon this week they are in and then the next week Snow Canyon would play Dixie with the winner of that game going to state, the loser staying home.

I can't believe there is so much discussion about region 9. I didn't even know there was a region 9!
