I've already cast my ballot for Ralph Nader.

Way ta go, Halley!

When you rile up the status quo by exposing the truth these days - you know you've hit the mark.

Never mind that Palin calls Senator Obama a terrorist.

Keep sticking it to those nasty Limbaughites. They've been the sole reason our country is so divided and has been run into the ground.

Anonymous | 11:16 a.m.: " More importantly Obama has had plans to provide tax relieve for low and middle income families all along."

Low income families don't pay taxes. How is he going to give them relief... He can tell you. He let it slip a few days ago while talking to a plumber business owner. He's going to redistribute the wealth. That's what's done under socialism.

"
You are a complete child, wrz.
Completely."

Pass the pablum.

"Now go back to the Rush Limbaugh Show."

I prefer Keith Olbermann. His nightly frothing at the mouth gets me in the mood for Halloween.

Let me take time to thank wrz for voting for Bush. Without your vote for Bush Obama wouldn't be your next president.

"He's going to redistribute the wealth." The largest redistribution of wealth has occurred during Bush's failed presidency.
Anonymous | 5:40 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
You know the end is near for the neocons when all they can come up with is: Obama is a terrorist wanting socialism in this country.
Never mind this:
Fire Departments are socialism
Police Departments are socialism
Public Schools are socialism
Public Libraries are socialism
Internal Revenue Service is socialism
Our armed forces are socialism

LOL!
Grimble | 5:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Not to mention that our financial sector is now socialist!

The GOP formula: socialize the risk, privatize the profits.
pointless! | 6:00 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
You know I aim a registered democrat and plan to vote for Obama but this letter is pointless and does nothing to help move our country forward. Before anyone here gets a big head or to hot under the collar let me add that the mean spirited behaviors in these threads from both sides falls into the same category for me.
Gus Talwynd | 6:10 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
When such conservative luminaries as David Brooks, George Will, Christopher Buckley, Peggy Noonan, and Kathleen Parker have discounted the role that Sarah Palin has with the McCain campaign, it is not necessary for Democrats to expend too much energy mounting their own series of complaints.

Except for the negative campaigning carried out under the auspices of the McCain strategists, the criticism of Palin is primarily from traditional conservatives. They are angry about the hijacking of their party of the evangelican social conservatives as represented by governor of Alaska.

The Bush years have had a devastating effect on Americans, most recently the financial meltdown. The Iraq war and the trillions of dollars wasted on that effort, coupled with the Wall Street debacle, have made people frightened that McCain/Palin will give them more of the same. It is the last eight years that has doomed any Republican candidate, and McCain is the unfortunate beneficiary of that curse.

After it is all done, Sarah Palin will have to return to Alaska and re-position herself if she wants to stay on the national scene. However, the residents of Alaska may have a change of heart after her recent performance on the national stage.

You have nailed it on the head! Bravo! That's why I don't take it seriously when the Republicans shout out SOCIALISM! when I say we need public health care.

When they shout that, half the time they don't even know what they're talking about.
Balancing the Meanness | 6:37 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
While there may be meanness on both sides, there is little question that Republican presidental candidates have been far more mean spirited over the last several elections than have Democrat presidential candidates. Republicans invented the modern mean-spirited campaign. The difference is that the Obama camp this year saw it coming and have responded; however, it is obvious that the meanness scale still tips heavily in favor of McCain/Palin.

Way to go Halley!

"Let me take time to thank wrz for voting for Bush. Without your vote for Bush Obama wouldn't be your next president."

I voted for none of the above.

"'He's going to redistribute the wealth.' The largest redistribution of wealth has occurred during Bush's failed presidency."

Then the Messiah's "I'll distribute the wealth" must be a good thing.
Re: wrz 4:41 | 6:40 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
So Obama won't do "a public town meeting forum"? What do you think the last debate was (And most people say that Obama won that one)?

This is just a waste of time, of course. We could see footage of McCain giving Osama bin Laden a footrub and you'd find some way for it to mean that Obama is a socialist who hates America.

I think you'll find that a Democratic Congress passed the bailout.

Mrs. Palin is right on most issues, far right. Nothing wrong with that I like that as long as there some balance.

I like her views on Abortion with her in office we could almost depend on the end of Abortion on demand and the Genocide would slow down if not stop.

I also like the way she has handled her daughters situation.

She can on a clear day most likely see Russia from her house.

She has been accused of some really bad things, like going to a Church where some members raise their hands over their heads and speak in unknown tongues. Although non say she did it. The practice is common among several faith groups and is very legal. Mostly its called "getting caught up in the spirit" you can also get "slain in the Spirit"

People have said she is "forcing her daughter to keep the baby" and "Merry The Father" he seems like a nice guy, so no problem with that.

People have attacked her Down Syndrome Child and that is sick and wrong.

Madonna needs to be investigated by the FBI. You dont say in front people you are going to hurt someone.

"So Obama won't do 'a public town meeting forum'? What do you think the last debate was (And most people say that Obama won that one)?"

That wasn't a town meeting. And the moderator won.

"This is just a waste of time, of course. We could see footage of McCain giving Osama bin Laden a footrub and you'd find some way for it to mean that Obama is a socialist who hates America."

If Obama would wear a long graying beard and a white turban to the debate, he could pass as Osama... McCain would go bonkers.

It was refreshing to see someone point out how much socialism we already have. Socialism in many ways isn't a bad thing. It only becomes bad when rich, elites aren't going to be able to maximize profit. When things get difficult, they turn to the government--corporate welfare. The next time a congressman that voted for the 700 billion criticizes medicaid or medicare, they should check in the mirror. Republican Administrations have long supported corporate welfare. This country has never had a true free market, but that's always the argument used by conservatives when it comes to universal health care or universal college education. Those things are socialist and interfere with the free market, but government bailouts are just fine. Conservatives should decide whether they want to continue to support policies that help those who don't need it, or do they want to help those most in need? Throwing around the word socialism is a scare tactic, and those that use it should rethink their hypocrisy.

Mrs. Palin who is the current sitting Governor of Alaska, with an 80% approval rating.

Is being asailed by people who cannot find anything real to attack her with.

She has Strong Core Values and Strong Family Values, and she is strongly against Abortion and some people cannot stand anyone remotely like her. To bad because their are millions of us somewhat or mostly like that and we are going to Vote and it is not going to be for Mr. Abortion "becuse I would not want my daughter punished with a baby" or I can't legislate against Partial Birth Abortion "because everyone might not be on board with me." We are going to go in the Booth and CTR.

WE are going to follow the standards of the Church and we are going to follow our own core values and beliefs. It is not against the law Not to Vote for Obama and his being defeated is not a Hate Crime.

The man is partly Black and so am I, and the Mans Standards and Core Values and Policeys, Offend and Disguest Me and often bring me to tears.

This is Not MLK's Dream it is his/our Nightmare.
the who? | 9:33 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
@ won't get fooled again 4:15. MMMMMmmmmm.... I think you missed the whole point of that great song by the Who. The one line that goes "meet the new boss... same as the old boss" The whole song is essentially saying that you always have candidates that talk a lot about "change" but they all end up being the same (which is actually good - we don't need any big time changers like Lenin or Mao).

Parrots are intelligent. Limbaugh listeners, I'm not so sure.
Lewt | 11:33 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Anyone notice that McCain polls best with groups that have the least education?
Iowa | 1:49 p.m. Oct. 16, 2008
Lewt---if you think that the only less educated people poll for McCain then you are dead wrong. Neither of the candidates will make great Presidents, but McCain's approach to spending, taxation and defending our nation is far surperior to Obama's.
Luke | 10:55 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Do not be discouraged because at the last minute Mitt Romney will step in and safe us.
obama republican | 11:55 a.m. Oct. 17, 2008
come on into the big tent. I keep wondering why so many LDS vote against their own interests and vote Republican. The Republicans stand for business BIG business, BIG OIL, BIG WAR PROFITS, BIG TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH. I hate that we have to pay taxes but some one need to pay the USA's Bills, I just do not want it to be my children.

Did I mention, we love Sarah! Are voting for McCain because of Sarah.
Liberal | 2:36 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
I'm a liberal and recognize the many wonderful redeeming attributes that Sarah brings to this ticket, including my vote.
To obama republican | 3:40 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008

There you go again!

The republican party represents respect for life, responsibility for ones self, self reliance, watching out for my brother on my terms, not the government's, small government, among other things.

That BIG business is just liberal's trying to invoke class warefare. It don't wash here.

Socialism | 5:34 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
It scares me how many people on here are actually open to the idea of socialism. Ever heard of Winston Churchill? Here's what he had to say

"A socialist policy is abhorrent to the ideas of freedom. Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

Is that what you want?
Re: Public Health Care | 5:41 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Hawaii just gave up on their universal health care program after 7 months. It's clearly failing in Canada and the UK where people are dying while waiting for the gov't to approve their procedures.

Keep in mind, our government takes $1000 and gives back $10 worth of services. They are not a "low overhead" operation, employing thousands of power-hungry, lazy bureaucrats where the warning is "don't work too hard or care too much, you'll make the rest of us look bad." And government employees are impossible to fire. Once you're hired, you've pretty much got a job for life.

I agree the health care system is broken, but "Free Health Care" for all is unrealistic because it's not free. Nothing is free.
Bayou Vol | 5:59 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Palin has shown NO ability to grasp the issues before her. She is a tool. Her persona is merely being used for talking points and cheap stunts. In short, she's an idiot.
Get Real! | 7:09 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
A significant number of the posts on this thread add nothing meaningful to the discussion, and rely almost exclusively on ignorant name calling. Regardless of who you support, please formulate a better argument than candidate (add name here)is an idiot.

Name calling does not add anything to the conversation. While I happen to be very willing to offer my opinion, it would probably die of loneliness amongst the banter that seems to dominate these threads. Please think of something constructive to add be for posting!

As for who is better qualified to serve, please take time to get past the packaging.
Woops!!! | 7:13 p.m. Oct. 17, 2008
Man, when I was reading the person who posted about Palin, I got confused and thought she was talking about Obama. Oh, I get it, there is a big difference, Obama thinks that he is the Messiah. OK, while I am listing Obama flaws, he is such a winy baby, when I see his feathers get ruffled, he responds like "teacher, teacher, he was mean to me". I personally would rather have a "dumb" VP, than a childish President. Oh, and reality check to all, they all have flaws and they all are doing things that are harmful to our country, my choice has to be the one that will pull it down more slowly.
Re: Get Real | 9:14 a.m. Oct. 18, 2008
You're right - get past the packaging. Palin is better looking. Biden is an awful sight.

But besides all of that, we aren't voting for either one of them! It's Obama vs McCain.

And if you say Palin has no experience, you must admit the same about Obama.
To Halley | 4:34 p.m. Oct. 18, 2008
You have a right to your opinion.

Now here's mine - YOU are mean and brainless!

Go McCain/Palin!!!!!
Cambridge | 10:29 p.m. Oct. 18, 2008
Isn't it mean, Halley, to call someone reckless and brainless?
To Lewt | 11:33 | 4:51 p.m. Oct. 19, 2008
Ever notice how the people with the most education are the most willing to accept flattering lies?
Lynn | 2:29 a.m. Oct. 25, 2008
I am a staunch member of the LDS Church, and like President Faust, I am a Democrat, in case you haven't figured that out from previous posts.
I would be perfectly happy to have a woman president or vice president. But not a fool.
What do I want in a president?
Someone highly intelligent, ethical, spiritual, thoughtful, organized, strong, willing and able to see all sides of an issue, work with those with opposing ideas.
Someone who can get important things done in this country.
I'd like someone not tied to big oil or corrupt lobbyists or insurance or drug companies.
Someone who isn't in it just for the glorification of his own ego.
I am opposed to abortion for the sake of convenience, but not in all cases.
I want to save the babies and the polar bears. I am a centrist.
I was once a Republican, but no longer, at least in Utah.
After much thought, I will vote for Obama.
Palin was the final straw.
So many terrific experienced women politicians and stateswomen and McCain picked a silly unethical demagogue who kills for sport and pleasure.
A slap in the face.
bobbi | 7:31 p.m. Nov. 6, 2008
I would hate to think that Palin would have to take over as president of the USA. What an embarrassment to everyone. She is a dummy and she don't even know it. I would not vote for her at all and under no circumstance. Good ridiance.
lisa | 7:35 p.m. Nov. 6, 2008
Thank God she didn't get close to the white house. Can you see her going to another country with that silly little voice of hers. Alaska needs her the other states don't. Thank God for Obama
