And by the way, may owner, Joe Sicspac, is tired of his name being thrown around also.
Sincerely,
Duke the Bulldog
Just because YOU don't support Obama doesn't make us college students immature! Did it ever occur to you that we actually do think about this quite a lot?
FYI, I do NOT rely on my parents' support to make my way in college! Do you think I put so much strain on my time to do part-time work as a custodian AND take twelve credit hours at the same time only to use my parents' money to pay for my education?
Do you want my advice, if you're going to say that college students aren't mature enough to vote?
LOOK IN A MIRROR!
For those of you who want to see your hard earned money be redistributed to those who have no right to it, go ahead and vote Obama. If you want to see what little sovereignty this country has left thrown to the other nations of the earth, again, vote Obama.
It is high time that we had a viable third party to represent Americans. Neither of the two ruling parties have any connection to the general populace anymore.
(surprise, surprise)
After the usual attacks on liberals, the drive-by media and the usual neocon war-cry: "Obama is going to raise taxes - and McCain won't!" Palin ended up with this:
GOVERNOR PALIN: "Hey, thank you so much and we'll keep listening. Thank you, Rush."
Absolutely astounding the power the bloated bigot has on people - especially the rednecked variety.
Palin listens to Limbaugh. Tells it all doesn't it?
LOL!
You should be ashamed of your bigotry.
What kind of father is Obama? He appears to be a good one. It is a hard question to judge, but he takes time for his girls and they seem well adjusted. He took the time to do an interview for Parents magazine with Michelle. Cindy McCain did it alone. More importantly Obama has had plans to provide tax relieve for low and middle income families all along. McCain is flirting with such policies now that he is down, but still wants to give the lions share to the wealthy who are not struggling in today's economy.
You got it. I'm voting for That One.
Too many people look at Palin and see the Saturday Night Live caricature. They only see the superficial, missing the guiding philosophy that is really important in a political office.
So Obama is an excellent public speaker--so what? An eloquent Marxist is still a Marxist.
So Obama looks good and polished on camera--so what? That doesn't make up for his stunning lack of qualifications.
What's important is the substance of the message, not the appeal of the messenger. Wake up!
My hat is off to those who have also been told you can't possibly be a good Mormon if you vote Democratic.
Reading this young lady's letter, I would say there may be help for Utah after all.
Why would anyone vote for one of these two liars? (Google factcheck-first result for examples on both candidates) Unless you believe that all the misrepresentations are accidental, but how would that be better?
Both candidates have promised tax cuts in times of enormous deficits. The finical plan seems to be to put it on the next generations tab, and most people are so selfish that they don't seem to care as long as it's not their problem.
As long as most people believe that a vote for a third party candidate is throwing away your vote it will be. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
You say that Obama is nothing more than a "snake oil salesman who is peddling his elixer of 'hope and change' without anything substantial to back himself up."
What exactly does this make McCain? He was the one that chose Palin, and it wasn't because of her great qualifications! He sold himself, the Republicans, and us the American people, to try to get elected.
If the Republicans want our vote, then please, get somebody more qualified than Palin. Get somebody that can actually help fix our country. But don't take us for the idiots that you all hoped that we'd be. We don't just vote for looks, religion, and doggon because we're gosh darn joe sixpacks. In fact, I find that rather offensive. We're not these brainless idiots that drink beer and watch hockey. We're actually intelligent people that care about our world.
In terms of redistribution of money, you should only fear this if you are in the very rich uppper class. To which, you haven't been paying your fair share the past 8 years. Time is up, pay now!
That has actually been disproven. I will see if I can find the citation but while certainly some educated people listen to his show, demographically, they skew blue collar and undereducated.
Yes, all brainless people can be the president of Harvard Law and graduate Sigma Cum Laude.
Thanks a lot. You comment made me laugh so hard I have to clean off my computer screen.
Nobody's changing their positions based on these slimy attacks. So somebody calls Palin mean, ugly, stupid, crook, whatever, do you see people gasping and saying, "Oh No, I better vote for Obama"!
I saw one poster who sayd he doesn't care if William Ayers were Obamas best friend or his VP candidate, he would still vote for Obama! Now that guy's been drinking some STRONG Coolaid!
Minds are already made up by now, and just calling Palin "Mean" or pointing out that Obama was raised and endoctinated by socialists and anti-Americans, isn't going to change ANY minds.
It doesn't matter WHO is elected! America won't change until WE CHANGE! Obama can't FORCE us to change. McCain can't change Washington just because he's contra-washinton.
They may be able to change our government (a little) but until each of us is willing to change, it won't make a bit of difference.
I don't see many on EITHER SIDE willing to change much. They all think, "EVERYBODY BUT ME needs to change".
The few times I have perused on-line comments for the Deseret News I have frequently found this same thing - someone states an opinion and then rather than another person stating an opposite opinion in a civil manner the comments are often degrading to those whose opinion differs from their own. It would sure be nice to see more civil comments!
The Bible states, "By their fruits ye shall know them." Senator Obama's voting record including strong support for partial-birth abortion, his past associations, as well as my perception of his lack of patriotism are the reasons I will not be voting for him.
Depends on who you talk to. In my opinion, today's conservative is simply this: Somebody that has demonized the left with their version of a dirty word-liberal. And they use that dirty word again and again and again.
So in a sense, today's modern American conservative movement is divisive offering nothing other than "we are better than you!"
Absurd.
It is as John Cleese said, "I'm sorry Michael. You are no longer the funniest Palin."
Palin was just one more straw.
Rush supported Bush. Bush has ruined it for the Republican Party. Rush like Bush seem never to be held personally accountable. :-)
"Christopher Buckley knew he was venturing into treacherous territory when he endorsed Barack Obama:
The penalty turned out to be more severe. William F. Buckley Jr.'s son said yesterday that he had lost his back-page column in National Review, the conservative bible founded by his father.
"Within hours, poor NR was being swamped with furious mail, 'Cancel my subscription, this is betrayal, Judas, Benedict Arnold,' " Buckley, 56, said in an interview. "I thought the decent thing to do would be to offer to resign the column. Well, they accepted it."
I'd like to buy you dinner.
Anybody that has the courage to go against the grain and dare to outspokenly vote Blue in such an iron-clad Red state, tells me there is hope for Utahns.
The state is, of course, on the other side of the country from Alaska, but that's not what Palin seemed to think in a rally today. The Republican vice-presidential nominee even seemed to draw a few boos when she told the assembled crowd, "It seems like, and in our last rally too, and in other parts around this great Northwest, here in New Hampshire, ya just get it."
Hmmm. Palin thinks New Hampshire is in the Northwest. Perhaps she IS brainless after all.
President Hinckley was right years ago when he urged members to become better informed to no longer be "isolationistic" and "parochial."
Sister T you said a mouthful, good job.
Seriously, people.
I'd love to have a discussion with an intelligent conservative who can explain his or her reasons for voting for McCain, and who can listen to my reasons for voting for Obama, without someone hollering about Obama being a muslin terrrist.
Alas, so many intelligent conservatives are jumping ship. David Brooks. Christopher Buckley. Christopher Hitchens. Another new one every day it seems. So the only people that are left are the ones that think Palin is qualified and Obama's a terrrrist.
Senator Dole may loose. Bush has been a blessing to democrats.
I beg to differ! ANYTHING that hurts my country hurts me. We need to get past this US v. THEM mentality. As citizens, we are in this together. People of BOTH parties want the best for our country, we just see the issues differently.
Too many people look at Palin and see the Saturday Night Live caricature.....What's important is the substance of the message, not the appeal of the messenger. Wake up! >>
And this was supposed to an argument FOR Palin?
Dude, the people not supporting Palin are, in fact seeing a SNL caricature. On the news. With a mic, stirring up rabid fans everywhere.
The "substance" of this messenger is ... what? What does SP stand for?
Will she ever have another regular media interview? Ever?
if she would speak to the media: Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams, anyone aside from the media of the right, we'd have more to go on.
And we'd learn more of what she was about.
unfortunately, her first and only foray into the public eye was a disaster and that's all we know about her.
A stump speech is NOT the same as an interview.
I'm not voting for McCain, and I'm not voting for Obama. I've had enough.
How dare a mother enter a "big boys" contest.
You are missing the point; just because she is a mother, doesnt qualify her to be the VP. She just looks superficial when she winks, blows kisses and speaks in phony colloquialisms and can not address the ISSUES.
Bravo!
Reminds me of this rock classic:
The change it had to come.
We knew it all along.
We were liberated from the fold -
that's all.
From "Won't get fooled again" - The Who
Was this what civil rights movement was all about, putting an African American into office regardless of his hatred for the country and his lack of ability?
One of the problems facing our country this election is the blatant incendiary rhetoric, since rhetoric can incite violent behavior. Freedom of speech does not give people the right to yell, Fire! in a crowded theatre. The McCain/Palin ticket and their pundits are purposely giving miss information about their rival; they are inciting the crowds at campaign events to yell, Kill Him!.. What is more hateful?
michaelh, it is your right to question Sen. Obamas qualification for office; however, making judgments that Sen. Obama hates our country is out of line.
Then you're making a huge mistake.
If Obama gets in the White House the Democraps will hold all of government. And with a filibuster proof majority in the Congress you will not see the end to socialistic programs and a huge tax increase to pay for them.
By the way, Obama promised to sit down with Ahmadinejad and talk without preconditions, in his first year in office. That will never happen. He forgot to ask Ahmadinejad if it was OK... Which it isn't. Ahmadinejad has his own preconditions before he will talk... namely, US pull out of the middle east and quit supporting Israel. Well, on second thought, pulling support from Israel is a distinct possibility if Jesse Jackson has anything to say about it.
"I like her, but I think that given her husbands involvement with the Alaska independence party, whose founder is anti American... she is a hypocrite for criticizing Obama for serving on a charity board with a guy who is a former domestic terrorist."
Palin's husband is not running for anything. But Osama is running to be our next president. (I shudder at the thought)
And Ayers is not a "former" domestic terrorist. He is an unrepentant terrorist who said he's glad he terrorized and that he didn't do enough. He should be in jail and Obama should be there too, caring for him.
Completely.
Now go back to the Rush Limbaugh Show.
Same with Idaho.
Same with Arizona.
Same with Montana.
Better start having even MORE kids Utahns, to get those numbers up and more electoral college votes.
LOL!
"Obama hasn't refused to do interviews like Palin has."
The Messiah, "That One" has refused to debate McCain in a public town meeting forum. He's chicken and knows he will get beat and badly.
What's with you people?
I'm reading all these posters praising Halley Jaimison, "Bravo, Bravo"... "I want to buy you dinner"! What, for posting her opinion? As if it takes tons of bravery or smarts to call Sarah Palin "Brainless and mean"?
All this praise just for calling Sarah Palin names? What's so cool about that?
Lewt | 10:34 a.m.:
"The recent Alaska finding about Palin and the trooper does remind me of a certain vice president - Dick Cheney."
Me too. Cheney with a shot gun.

Oi!
I'm a BYU student, and I work and pay for my own tuition, thank you very much, so don't patronize me or Halley! And I'm voting for Obama! Because I actually think about it, quite a lot, more than I think about my own studies probably, and I seriously think he's a far better choice than McCain!
