Florida Hype | 5:05 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I love how Mr. Harmon can buy into the FLorida Hype and rank them #5. Just because Florida has 12 players on the roster that run the 40 in 4.4 or better and they beat LSU handily does not make them #5. Have you forgotten they couldn't beat Ole' Miss, one of the worst teams in the SEC? You yourself wrote that LSU was overrated. That is true. Their signature win so far was against Auburn, who has proven awful offensively to the point of firing their OC. So what is yuor basis for being so impressed with Florida's big win over LSU if LSU was overrated? OK also has one loss, to a scary-good TX team and OK put up 35 on TX in that loss. But for Stoops poor decisions, like faking punts, OK might have won that one. OK has not lost to an unranked bottom-feeder like Ole' Miss, so if you want a 1 loss team at #5, then have it be OK, not FL.

Is the worst column in all of sportswriting. I love how he just gets all his information second hand and blah blah blah gives us his opinions. I don't care what he thinks
Re: Florida Hype | 7:49 a.m. Oct. 14, 2008
I agree. At this point of the season, you shouldn't be ranked in the top 5 if you've lost to an unranked team AT HOME. At least USC lost on the road. Oklahoma #5 (at least).

Oklahoma state: 28
Missouri: 23

(not quite the waylay of 38-23 as stated... this was a close game)

At this point in the season, you shouldn't be ranked in the Top 10 if you've lost to an unranked opponent.

It seems BYU is not that good at running esp on short yard situations, (Short and 1st, blue zone, etc)

That may explain why Hall has so many touchdown passes? :)

Then don't read this column. I like Harmon's opinion, so I will read it.

Would bet on your team to beat Florida.

Tulsa is getting robbed. They have an almost identical team to BYU (tons of points, unbeaten, haven't beaten anyone good yet), and they beat BYU last season. But they aren't ranked?!?!

Dick,
How can you rank Texas Tech #4 after they barely beat Nebraska in overtime, in Lubbock no less!
Utah Homer | 12:18 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Dick,
Do you know who would've been the Harris Poll voter that gave Utah a #1 vote? I don't recognize any names on the list that could be pegged as Ute homers.

5 weeks in a row dick mentions Michigan in this article, why? Could it be he will take any opportunity to down grade the Utes? Every one knows Michigan is way down.
Re: michael | 2:21 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Ahhh, Michael, were your feelings hurt? Newsflash for ya, the WHOLE COUNTRY is talking about Michingan losing to Toledo and being at risk of snapping their 33 straight bowl game streak. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself.
Re: This column | 2:58 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Obviously you read the column. Go take a valium and relax.
re NO TT | 3:07 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
close games happen, seriously, byu beat washington by ONE, yet they are top 10. there is alot of talk about ttu not playing anybody, but they ROLL OVER those opponents, minus nebraska. Watch ttu and tell me they aren't good. They have an awesome 1-2 punch with Harrell and Crabtree, second maybe only to Daniel and Maclin at Mizzou. Basically, the team is good, and to be a good team you have to win when you don't play well, which is what they do, unlike USC and FLA.
Re: re NO TT | 3:36 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
What happened to BYU when they barely won by one in Washington? They fell 1-2 places in the polls. But Texas Tech barely pulls out a squeaker against a not very good Nebraska team in overtime, at HOME, and they deserve to be moved into the top-5? I don't think so. BYU's mediocre win over New Mexico at home was more impressive than TT's yet they went no where (surprising since BYU and TT were right next to each other in the polls).
umm | 3:42 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
no I would whole heartedly disagree with your point that byu's win was moreimpressive than ttu's. And to point out a few flaws in your argument, when byu barely won in wash, there weren't 3 or 4 top teams that lost. This weekend, 1,3, and 4 or 5 i cant remember lost. You totally disregarded what I said in my post to begin with. You have to win close games when you don't play well, TTU did. Also, TTU looks a lot better than BYU, but we'll find out for sure. Now, I don't want to open this can of worms, but the touch on the back call was incredibly iffy, and I agree that the call in wash had to be made so don't start with that. The polls should show who is the better team and I think they do. Right now I'd take ttu over any team in this state. I would love to watch a good qb pick apart byu's defense, and i don't think they have an answer for crabtree.
re Re: re NO TT | 3:49 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
washington is worse than Neb. That might be one reason.
Hindsight | 4:17 p.m. Oct. 14, 2008
Nebraska and New Mexico are comparable teams. I'd give a slight edge to Nebraska, but not by much. Now both TT and BYU were at home. TT has to go to overtime, BYU clearly dominated the game and won by 18. I didn't say BYU's win was impressive, just more so than TT's. Yet they move up 2 spots in the Coaches and BYU stands pat. I'm not saying BYU deserved to move up--I think they should've stayed right where they are--I just don't think TT deserved to move up after a very unimpressive win.

And I don't disagree that Washington is worse than Nebraska at this point of the season, especially after UW lost Locker. The point was that during the second week of the season we didn't know how bad they were yet after a close win on the road BYU moved down 3 spots in the AP.
