Excited for the game in Fort Worth! I was at the 2006 game when BYU beat TCU.
The defense played very well that day and John Beck was an amazing quarterback
that game. Hopefully, BYU can repeat the 2006 performance.

The article mentioned that "the BYU offense has yet to be tested this
season. Its FBS opponents are near the bottom in the nation in scoring offense,
out of 119 teams � UCLA (No. 92), New Mexico (No. 95), Utah
State (No. 98), Washington (No. 104) and Wyoming (No. 119)." It then goes
on to say that TCU is No. 26 in scoring offense.
Pardon my lack of football knowledge, but how does comparing our offense to another team's offense prove whether or not our offense has been tested this year? Shouldn't we compare our offense to another team's DEFENSE to get a feel of whether or not we've been "tested"? Doesn't make much sense to me.

I think BYU and UTAH fans are in lala land. You are only rated as high as you
are because you haven't lost a game. Unfortunately that is how the system
works. But reality is that both of you are not even top 25 teams if you had to
play everyone to prove your worth. Your teams just happen to be better than
average in a less than average conference. Against the best teams it would be
USC 60 BYU 10. Texas 55 Utah 7 and so on. Stop complaining about the BCS. It
is your best friend. If it was not for the bad system in place you would get
"Zero" national exposure. Just hope they never go to a play-off
system or you will be recognized as the OHIO STATE of the west. Good record,
poor conference and no-shows in the big games. So stop the YEWTS and COUGS
complaining and be happy for the bad system that is in place that makes you all
look fabulous.

After a couple of erratic games for the Cougs - I predict they come into
Thursday night on fire in all 3 phases of the game. TCU will be reeling with BYU
up 21-0 and the end of the 1st quarter. BYU ends up with a 45-10 win and the Ute
fans crawl onto this board trying to convince everyone that TCU was an imposter
anyway and will lose most of their remaining MWC games. One or two will give BYU
their due but the excuses will abound. The voters will believe BYU is for real
as they move to 17-0 and after a loss by a couple top ten teams BYU will sit at
#6.

...and then you wake up and realize that it is friday morning and you are

Hall hasn't looked as sharp the past couple of weeks, but every player goes
through a period of underachievement (though his numbers remain gaudy).
If Hall is crisp, and if the defense doesn't allow a couple of 80 yard type strikes, BYU wins in a walk. If, however, Hall plays "acceptable" and the TCU offense controls the clock, it's a 50-50 chance of winning.
However, a loss in Ft. Worth doesn't really mean much from the MWC perspective since the winner of a one-loss BYU team and an undefeated Ute team wins the conference. It would wreck any BCS hopes, of course, but that has never mattered to me. Let 'em go to the Las Vegas Bowl every year.

For the good of the conference a BYU win is more valuable than a TCU win since
it is highly unlikely that any one-loss MWC team could get into a BCS game. The
only way the conference wins is for Utah or BYU to finish undefeated. It's
all about dollars and you've got to wonder if all the ADs hope that BYU
wins this week.

The best teams and the best conferences... and the first one you mention is USC
from the PAC-10? Are you just arriving on the college football scene in 2008.
Oregon State, then, must be the best team in that "great"
conference... because they surely dominated USC. The PAC-10 might have the two
weakest teams in all of major college football - Washington State and Washington
- those are pretty much 2 automatic wins for all the other teams in the
conference. You also think that a team must play "everyone" to prove
they belong in the top 25? Well there isn't a team in college football
that does that, so I guess there is no such thing as a top 25 team (according to
your logic.) It sounds like you have bought into the beauty contest known as
the "BCS." That's where they "crown" a beauty queen as
the national champion based on the opinion of judges rather than the results on
the field.
Any team that is undefeated at this point in the season deserves to be ranked in the top 25. Any team that has won 16 games in a row deserves national recognition.

The Kewgs do not strike fear into anybody, including MWC teams. The Kewgs
can't even scare Utah State. Calm down Cougar 4 your team is not that good.

Despite the fact that I'm a huge BYU fan and admittedly drink the blue
kool-aid from time to time, I have to give props to re:UCLA Repeated. That was
pretty good.
UCLA Repeated, I think you've been drinking a little *too much* of that kool-aid. 45-10? I think 17-10 is more likely, with BYU pulling out the win after 4 quarters of a defensive slugfest.

Is there anyone out there that still thinks that BYU and Utah couldn't make
it in the Pac-10? The BCS should take away the Pac-10, Big East, and ACC
automatic bids and give them to specific teams that are more deserving (that
is...if you like parody and excitement in college football). I don't know
if BYU and Utah would qualify as "deserving" teams this year, but it
would make the BCS games more enjoyable to watch.

I was there in '06 to see the game. I talked to Y fans after the game that
came as far as Corpus Christi to be there- over six hours away. It was amazing
(and perplexing to the Frogs) and it was loud. Saying 1/2 were BYU fans would
be too much, but I would say it was close to 1/3 (Cougar United). Patterson
knows this isn't the typical opponents traveling fan base. I hope we rock
the house again!

After watching TCU struggle with CSU and give up two major plays that would have
worked but the receivers dropped the ball... I think Hall and Collie may have
the right dynamics to make some big plays on the Frogs.
I don't think CSU has, with new Coach Fairchild, improved that much so I imagine TCU may have been looking forward and preparing a little for BYU. Dangerous but it might help.
TCU is going to bring all their guns to this fight and it is at home. Should be a heavy game. Excited to watch how it all turns out.

Ergo, with a TCU victory, Utah has a chance to beat TWO ranked teams in the last three games of the season, which is better than beating just one.

that's the only reason they won at Washington and squeeked by New Mexico

Take a lesson from "50 year utes fan," though; smart fans realize that BYU, Utah, & TCU are not easy teams for anyone to schedule right now. MWC teams just don't have the luxury of dodging these three powerhouses, or they might. I'm not sure how good a lot of teams are in the nation, but I know that the so-called elite programs have scheduled less games in Provo given how poorly they have fared in the past there, and ever since the BCS cartel was set up to keep the BCS from playing great outside teams. So I apologize that BYU has had to rely on MWC teams to gain prominence, only for us to knock you down: such are the breaks of the system.

I hope that BYU and UT are both undefeated in Nov when they meet. It will be a
great game. If BYU wants to move up in the polls they need to beat TCU
convincingly 35-7. We all know how bad OU beat TCU. BYU has the offense to
make it happen and shouldn't have much problem with the TCU offense. Utah
needs to keeping winning no matter what it takes. I don't particularly
like their offense, but they ARE winning. Best of luck to both teams.

This TCU team is tough...In the OU game, they shut down the Sooners'
rushing game completely and were beaten 35-10 only because: (1) TCU coughed up
3-4 turnovers; and (b) TCU gave up 4 long pass plays due to its aggressive,
high-risk/high-reward defense. Depending on variables like location, TCU could
beat OU 50% of the time....Because TCU's new QB is geared toward running, I
see a low-scoring game....21-17...have no idea who will win but hope it's
the Cougs...

If BYU plays like they did in their last two games, they will have a
disappointing loss. I agree, Hall (hence the coaches) should spread the ball
around. Recently, I've seen him looking in only one direction in most of
the passes - which means he is tracking and trying to lock on to one receiver
(mostly Collie). He should stand back and scan the field more. Good Luck! GO

Some game this century, he's bound to be right -- after all, even a broken clock occassionally shows the correct time.

I remember last year about this time Utes were focused on the BYU game. They got beat by UNLV and AFA.
Hey, at least they are Bowl eligible, and will get an invite to some third rate Bowl, third rate opponent, and keep the bowl streak alive, missing again a chance to play a quality opponent in their bowl game.

As much as dislike the BYU fans, I am going to hope for a BYU win this Thursday.
The Utes need the strength of schedule.
I do not get why BYU/Utah fans talk so much trash about who is better. It is obvious that we will see in November, until then we should just keep our mouths shut so we do not look stupid the the national media that the state is drawing.

people coming to see if that's going to be true for the Cougars.

the pressbox is going to be for this one.

Fascinating to read all the hopes/delusions/fantasies/hatred/comedy (Ernest T)
etc on these comment boards. Only a handful are based on any sort of reality.
Especially appreciate voices of reason eg. Utah fan for 50 yrs
Bottom line is: Everything is hypothetical until we play the game Thursday evening. BYU must bring it's "A" game if they expect to win on the road in Fort Worth. Anything like how they played against USU or UNM will probably result in a disappointing BCS hope crushing defeat.
We will be there en masse Thursday night and fully expect that 1/4 to 1/3 of the crowd will be cheering for BYU. Anywhere BYU plays typically brings out a contingent of local LDS and BYU fans numbering in the thousands. A few years ago when BYU played SMU in the Cotton Bowl-more than half the crowd of 21,000 or so were BYU fans. At venues such as Notre Dame or UCLA last year or Washington this year-there are almost always 15,000-25,000 very vocal BYU fans. Expect the same thing when we travel to Florida State next season.

Bottom line is: Everything is hypothetical until we play the game Thursday evening. BYU must bring it's "A" game if they expect to win on the road in Fort Worth. Anything like how they played against USU or UNM will probably result in a disappointing BCS hope crushing defeat.
We will be there en masse Thursday night and fully expect that 1/4 to 1/3 of the crowd will be cheering for BYU. Anywhere BYU plays typically brings out a contingent of local LDS and BYU fans numbering in the thousands. A few years ago when BYU played SMU in the Cotton Bowl-more than half the crowd of 21,000 or so were BYU fans. At venues such as Notre Dame or UCLA last year or Washington this year-there are almost always 15,000-25,000 very vocal BYU fans. Expect the same thing when we travel to Florida State next season.

Reading all the comments is very entertaining, but most of you folks are missing
the central point: we need to build respect for our conference. The only way to
build respect is to beat the other guys; therefore, our job is to root for MWC
teams when they play non-conference oppos. I have no trouble cheering for Utah,
BYU, USU, or even Weber State and SUU (and yes, I include poor stepchild Dixie
State, my son goes there). When it comes down to the GAME, then root for the the
team who will benefit most from the win. When other conferences flinch from
playing MWC teams, THEN you can make your goofy anti-Red anti-Blue comments.
Until then, GO MWC SPORTS!

Don't you love college football? From years of watching it is apparent
that the difference between a win and a loss depends on the players, however
there are so many intangibles that the outcome is always in question. The
difference between a team with a losing record and one with a winning record
depends on factors beyond the athleticism of the individuals. This will be an
exciting game to watch because the predictors are nearly equal on either side of
the line.
