It's a sad country that can't take care of it elderly. They are so poverty stricken they must take out loans to live on and pay their taxes. They are put in to this position by and irresponsible society and government. Where do the elderly go when they are taxed out of their homes, bought and paid for? Rather than face living on the streets she had very few options that drove her to this. Where do they go for financial help or food on their tables? More time and tax money is wasted on illegal aliens and giving them aid than is given to our generations of americans that built this country. The elderly give trust and faith to others believing they are being helped when in fact they are being victimized. These generations of elderly grew up in a society when trust, honesty, and a handshake was a contract. The elderly deserve and command the respect of their descendants enjoying what the elderly have given them. Instead the elderly are considered a plague on society, and developers want to take their land and homes away from them, in the name of progress.

Is Countrywide's middle name! The very idea of anybody seriously loaning more than a house is worth to an elderly person is next door to insane. The only explanation is GREED! And the taxpayers of America are now going to bail out these banks and mortgage lenders?
High taxes are another problem--our property taxes are now 10% of our small retirement income--and our house value has fallen. Unfortunately, the tax assessor doesn't agree and has raised our assesment $60,000!
Inflation caused by the Federal Reserve's insane printing of more and more money to fuel more and more borrowing and out-of-control government spending is partly responsible for this crisis.
So is the greed of speculators who bought and bought, both on Wall Street and in real estate, assuming prices would continue to go up and they'd make a killing.
And meanwhile, the taxpayers will pay for all this--even those who have been careful and frugal.
Who do you suppose is going to finance all of Obama and McCain's wonderful government programs?

They say that you can tell about a society by how it treats it's most vulnerable. The people of the US have to take a good look at themselves and decide what kind of country they want. Do they want a nation that goes around the world sticking it's nose in everyone else's business, bullying, starting unnecessary wars, spending billions on arms. Do they want a nation where CEO's make a thousand times that of the average worker. A nation where dishonest, greedy people take everything from an old woman like the one in this article. Or do they want a nation that takes care of it's own.
