Hmm | 12:26 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Maybe they should run a two minute drill for their first five possessions... it seems to work a lot better than their regular offensive schemes.

Go Utes.
Go Cowboys! | 3:59 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I hope Wyoming cleans house this weekend and sticks it to the Utes.

I do agree. Why wait until only two minutes are left in the game to start playing football.

The Cowboys are looking forward to giving the Utes a warm welcome in Laramie.

Utah has been elevated to most favored opponent status, ahead of BYU and Colorado State.

Congratulations!

See ya'll Saturday.
Ref: Jim B | 7:10 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
The reason they don't run the two minute offense the whole game is because the other team isn't a prevent defense the whole game. When Johnson has pressure, he folds. When the other team is in a prevent defense there is no pressure on Johnson and he performs better.

We really want/need this win over you guys. Our players are fired up and we're going to surprise Salt Lake City.

Playing Utah isn't normally nearly as exciting as playing a big-time team like BYU or USC, but we really want this game for our coach.

Don'believe me now? Utah fans, you'll all believe me later. Go Cowboys!!!

playing wyo is alot like playing utah state now
a win is like kissing your sister, you do it but with out much passion
Ute06 | 8:36 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Dear Cowboy Nation:
A "big-time team like BYU or USC. I wasn't aware that they were playing on the same level. To my recollection BYU has not played in a BCS bowl, Utah has. USC lost to Oregon St, where Utah did not. Now, I am not saying that the U is better than USC, but I am saying that I don't think there is much separation, they are all nationally ranked teams.

GO Utes!

BYU fans never cease to amaze me with the lengths they will go to to put down their rival. Pathetic.

Hey CowboyNation! I know were not as big time to get up for as Bowling Green, but hopefully you give us a reasonable challenge.
Ute Fan | 8:57 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Emotion up will only get you so far. You need talent to win football games and it looks as though Wyo is lacking on talent this season.

Go Utes | 9:08 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
the only thing the cowgirls can do on offense is run the ball and Utah has one of the best run defenses in the nation. Just look at the Air Force or Michigan game and they have a better run attack than Wyoming. Should be an easy, boring win for the Utes. Utah 37 Cowgirls 10
Cowboy schmoe | 9:11 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
If the utes don't hang another 50 on you then you can have your moral victory and hang you hats on the fact that you scored on a conference apponent. I guess we'll all see on Saturday!
GO ZOOBS!!! | 9:13 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Any of you cougar...er, I mean COWBOY fans wanna "guarantee" a victory over the Utes THIS year?
Dave | 9:20 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
My favorite team this week is Wyoming. Go Cowboys
Utah are lossers.
should win | 9:25 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Since Wyo isn't very good this year Utah should be able to win this game without any trouble no matter how badly Wyo is feeling the revenge factor, knock on wood. Dang, where's some wood...ok I don't see any around right now so I'll try to find some later to knock on if I don't forget.

"Utah's ability to score down the stretch proved to be the difference against the Falcons and Beavers. It's no accident. The two-minute drill is something the Utes pay a lot of attention to..."

I have to agree with the Ref: Jim B comment above. A big reason the 2-minute drill has worked so well is because the opponent went into a stupid prevent defense. When are DC's going to learn that their teams get burned doing that? If your D has been doing well the whole game then stick with it, don't throw in the prevent defense. Sheesh.
Ragtime cowboy Joe | 9:27 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
(Oh brother) Home coming fans at war memorial are not going to be hearing much of that fight song on Saturday.

No other gang of college men dare meet us in the muss will be the refrain in Laramie on Sat. The Utes are going to be 7-0.

I'm glad you're looking to surprise Salt Lake City. You do realize the game is being played in Laramie though right? I guess that would surprise Salt Lake City, since nobody knew there was a game here this weekend!
Holy Cowboy | 10:10 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
A byu fan here.........gosh you ute fans are arrogant....if I was a Wyo. fan I'd be concerned about stopping your offense...they havn't done very well at that this season........but the sheer audacity of the attitude you guys carry.....berate Wyoming all you want to their fan base....it will just make them hunker down...or in other words you brave boys and girls going to make the trip to laramie on Saturday and actually wear red to the game...?its like wearing blue in Salt Lake in late November......admirable...but stupid...you'll be a target...a big red target...and do ya think it'll be over after the game while you hoot and holler about your victory...anything in that parking lot around War Memorial Stadium with a Utah plate??? Fodder for Joe Glenn lover's...and I for one like Joe Gleen as a coach....he has fire in his belly...and that fire will be there in Saturday....you'll see it in his eyes....his player's eyes, the fans and anything else...their mascot will breath fire.......a lonely place it will surely be on Saturday because of Kyle's blunder with that onside kick..as a matter of fact they'll still remember this in fifty years...my gosh...could write about YOUR arrogance all day....BYU is arrogant?

Watchout........
Yes | 10:13 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Yeah....I will, BCS Buster....we bust the utes all the time...see ya Saturday and see ya in November...
Moral Victory | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Since the cowpokes have only scored 6 points in their last few games, I'm not thinking they'll be much competition for the Utes. But...Whittingham did upset some folks up there, so you gotta think Glenn has something up his sleeve, something that'll give the pokes a moral victory.
Rich | 10:19 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Utes need to play well and get up for this game. The Wyoming fans are the worst fans in the world, they are going to show Zero class and be very loud.
I know that the Utes can win, lets just hope that they don't play down.

GO UTES!
re Dave | 10:25 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I am so sorry your life is so small, that you have nothing better to do with your energy!
Better concentrate | 10:25 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
on the task at end, small as it may be.

Utah fans seem more interested in bashing BYU than in talking about this week's opponent. They just better hope the Utah players are more focused.

Remember, "on any given Saturday" any team can beat any other team, especially on the high plains where the opponent has plenty of extra motivation to ruin Utah's very promising season.

Kyle may think the hatchet has been buried, but I'm sure the Cowboys would like nothing better than to bury that hatchet in the collective back of the Utes.

Wyoming is my favorite team. Those colors are mighty purty and they have a chip on their shoulder no matter who they play.
Of course living in Laramie can have that affect on a person.

Re:Cowboy Nation Rules.

That was one of the best posts I've seen from a Ute fan ever! It's great to see some humor and some class instead of the sophomoric drivel that we see far too often on the articles.

The Cowboys don't have much of a chance against Utah because they don't have much of a team. But posts are still entertaining when the writer has a brain advanced beyond kindergarten.
Re: CowboyNationRules! | 10:39 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Looks like there's ONE "cowboy" fan looking ahead to their game against the Utes in November rather than their upcoming games against the Lobos and the Frogs over the next 7 days.

It just goes to show...there are no true cowboy...er, I mean cougar fans. Only Ute haters. It's sad. And to think that living in Provo is punishment enough.

GO "COWBOY" ZOOBIES
CougarKeith | 10:45 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
After Wittingham's stunts last year nothing would make me happier than to see the Utes go down! The problem is Wyoming is worse off than last season! Can they do the improbable? I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!!! Kyle showed me last year what a LOW CLASS MAN he really is. I look so forward to the game. I just hope it is a good game, and I hope the Cowboys get their revenge! If they win one more game this year it should be this one! I used to like the Utes except one day a year, the day they face BYU, but anymore I think they are the scum of College Football!
RE Cowboy Nation Rules | 10:51 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
"A big time team like BYU or USC". You have to be joking.

Something tells me that you are just another fan from down south. Nobody else in the country would put BYU and USC in the same category.

Looks like you "Koogs"(look I can spell your name wrong too) are once again aspiring to be something you never will be.

7-0?

I was expecting something more like 44-0.
Salt Lake City, UT | 10:52 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Sources close to the team say that Coach Whittingham has been drilling the team on onside kicks all week. "When we play weaker conference opponents, we leave sportsmanship at home," Whittingham said. "I don't care what the score is, if the opposing coach has said anything that can come even remotely close to showing confidence in his team, we're going to make them pay." Whittingham continued, "Besides, he flipped the bird. That's good for at least two more onside kicks right there."

Offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig wouldn't deny that there are some trick plays in the works for Saturday's game. "We like to try those sorts of plays when the opposing team least expects it. Most teams think that's in a clutch situation. We think that's when we're up by 30 or 40 points." When asked about quarterback Brian Johnson's inconsistency in the Oregon State game, he said, "I'm not worried about it. Brian is one of the premier quarterbacks we've had at this university. He's right up there with, well, he's not as good as Alex Smith, but there have got to be some other good quarterbacks to compare him to. Um, I'll get back to you."

I will put a 100% guarantee on the Cowboys beating the Utes this year. That's right...100% sure-fire, full-proof guarantee. Just watch and weep.
really? | 11:09 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Oh, yeah! Another pointy ball game. Do you think this hour long game will take 3, or 4 hours? Can't wait to see the defense replace the offense again - I mean why would you expect a player to be able to do both. I've never seen more obese people in one setting, other than at baskin robins free ice cream day. I guess they have to have some people out there while the 3 actual athletes do their part. Sounds exciting to me!

Because I actually have a job (unlike most of you unemployed Utah slackers that appear to have nothing better to do than call me names)I just wanted to check back and see if any of my fellow Cowboy fans had joined in the conversation. Anyway, it looks like its up to me defend our COWBOY HONOR.

It's true we can't stand BYU more than any other school in the nation, however, we grudgingly have no choice but to respect them (no conference losses in 3 years, national champ, 30-years of humiliating defeats, etc). I also must admit that Utah is pretty good this year and Urban Myer did perform a one-time miracle for you guy a few years ago before he left for a better university (I don't know how your coach does it this year, with limited talent).

Anyway, I really think our fans in Laramie are going to get us pumped up and we will shock Salt Lake City. Look for my comments after the game (if I'm wrong--I WON'T BE--I'll still show up like a WYOMING MAN and admit it). Go Cowboys!!1
Kevin Olson | 11:35 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I can't wait to watch this game. The Utes went over board rubbing the Cowboy's noses in "it" last year. Now it is Wyoming's turn to rub the Utes' noses in "it" this year. And I'm not talking about the score.

I don't think that Wyoming will win this game, but don't be surprised if you see the Utes getting laid out more than a rotten Latin soccer team all over the field.

If I were BJ, I would have a box of Depends handy on the sideline. Not only was the Cowboy team embarrassed, but the whole Wyoming fan base. Maybe if the Utes wear white pants, a pair of Depends won't be so obvious to viewers on t.v.

Re Holy Cowboy | 11:44 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Actually Holy Cowboy, you're absolutley right. I actually posted a comment on here earlier, and reading through all this we Ute fans have been very arrogant. It's the same thing we slam on the BYU fans all the time. How are we any better than them right now? I think the Utes will win on Saturday, but I think the Cowboys will put a huge fight, and I think there will be a few fights there actually. Thanks for your prospective. You were right today.
Re: Holy Cowboy | 11:50 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Do you think the real Poke fans are reading the Deseret News? I doubt anyone in Laramie has heard of it. I'm really not that concerned about hurting the feelings of some silly zoob who is pretending to be a Poke. Besides, talking to friends in Laramie, they don't feel like they have much of a chance. In fact, they were hopeing they could schedule N. Iowa next year if BYU doesn't have them booked for the next ten years.
To holy cowboy | 11:54 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
First of all most Ute fans are not berateing Wyoming, just your fellow Zoobs that are mascrading as Cowboys (i.e. CowboyNationRules) No true Wyo fan would call BYU a "big-time team"
No byU is not arrogant, just the football players, the fans and the student body. Actually, Collie is arrogant enough for the whole team.
What? | 11:57 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008

what MWC team has the worst attendance? Wyoming

what MWC team has one of the worst win/loss records over the history of the MWC? Wyoming

what MWC team was on the verge of losing its Division I status because of attendance and athletic accomplishments? Wyoming

what MWC team should be lucky that they aren't in the WAC or worse? Wyoming

what MWC school has the worst stadium and the drunkest fans in the MWC? Wyoming

what MWC school has the least attractive location (Laramie) in the MWC? Wyoming

what MWC school should be kicked out of the MWC in favor of another school? Wyoming

Re: Holy Cowboy | 12:03 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Dear byu fan pretending to be a Holy Cowboyt...Up that dose of medication or get off the energy drinks. Wow...you were all over the place. Fire Breathing Joe Glenns and don't wear Blue in Salt Lake in November. I am not sure how all that ties into arrogance but... hey it is your mind doing the convoluted thinking there.

I do agree... be careful wearing the opposing colors in War Memorial Stadium. The Cowboys and Cowgirls at U of W are passionate. Last year a church friend wore his byu Blue to Laramie for the game...he was flabbergasted that the U of W fans were so "crazy" and disrespecful.

Was it a byu player or Utah player that commented after a game about how nice it was that they served beer in plastic bottles now in War Memorial Stadium.
re Holy Cowboy | 12:14 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
FYI!! The arrogance of the fans is really an irrelevant issue. Last time I checked, the game is played on the field, not in the stands, so every fan should hope the team's players are confident, but not arrogant (leave the arrogance for people like for byu's receivers). I think fans everywhere think their team is the best... hence the term "fan".
Tarheel Utes | 12:19 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I like Wyoming Football, but the Pokes this year are pretty poor. Very little talent on offense, and a undersized defense that spends to much time on the field. Too bad, I had hopes they would return to their form several years ago when they won a few non-conference games, particularly their bowls games. Now they look like perinial door mats. Too bad for Wyoming, too bad for the MWC and probably too bad for Coach Glenn. Looks like WY will retool next years coaching staff.
RE Dave | 12:26 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Byu education at it's finest! Let me guess..."Mariage Family and Human Development" degree?
Reallocate your time | 12:29 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Maybe they ought to spend a couple of minutes in practice on the offense they run the other 58 minutes of the game. They won't need it the glorified scrimmage this weekend, but it might come in handy down the stretch.
Prevent Defense | 12:34 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Was Oregon State playing a prevent when Utah scored that last touchdown? If they were then they did a terrible job since Godfrey beat everybody down the middle of the field. Isn't the goal of the prevent to keep everything in front of you as to not give up the big play?
