So why in the world aren't the animals removed from their cages while they're being cleaned rather than leaving them in the cages and subjecting them to getting sprayed with water and disinfectants? Seems like a no-brainer to me. Surely there's some way to do this while waiting for the new shelter to be built.

$5.5million on an animal shelter!!! I too love cats and dogs and other animals BUT in this day and age of doom and gloom and people not being able to afford to pay mortgages, health care etc etc, I feel it is near criminal to talk about spending that kind of money on housing animals! Sorry but put things in perspective.

I agree with helenofoz, I was homeless recently, due to unfortunate circumstances. I was staying at a homeless shelter for less than 2 months when everyone who hadn't found employment were thrown out on the street. We care more about animals than do people.

If you have seem the animal shelt they are in, you would be suprised that they have been there for 40 years. I am totally in support of the new shelter. I work in construction on a number of federal government projects. You should be more concerned about the money that is wasted. 5.5 million is not that much considering the money spent everywhere else.

I am so glad that we are going to have a better shelter for the city. I know the city is doing a better job now than in the past and i hope learns from past mistakes. But may be will be a good idea to spent in classes and printed information to the current and new owners of animals in how to keep their pets save at home and away of the streets.
Everyday that I go to work, I hate to see beautiful pets being hit by cars, and my mind wonders why their owners didn't took care of these poor creature. Our new shelter will be a good blessing to our community, but please keep pets population neuter or spay.( I stole the line from Bob Barker)
