Ok, so I've finally grown tired of some of the comments about Fes. A few of you seem to be incredibly biased towards anyone actually proving themselves. I will concede that Fes came to the revue, admittedly out of shape. As such he had a bad revue. Since then however he has made significant changes. For example, he was expected to return to the Ukraine and play in the Euro championships. He blew off his entire freakin country to stay and workout in Santa Barbara as well as do some Junior Jazz camps in rural Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Idaho. From there he has practiced almost every day with the exception of Sundays. His times in drills are down over last year, his stamina and other tests at the preseason physical are all up over last year, he hasn't been late to a single practice or game since May, and on and on. His body fat was higher than he wanted to be to start the season but even Shaq had 12% body fat at 20 years old. How many of you have body fat anywhere even below 20%?, let alone where Fes is at.

Lyde out played kofus and fezz in the summer league and is also out playing them in the preseason. Sometime we are so freakin enamored by a players potential we can't see what little they are actually contributing. I realize Lyde is over weight and he will never grace the cover of GQ but he is a "gamer" (consistent low post player with consistent defense).
I am not a Collins basher but I think there comes a time when he needs to either contribute or hit the road so here is an idea start Collins and if he doesn't produce waive him and sign Lyde.

Anyone who thinks Millsap is a center is just ignorant, while anyone who can't see that Fez is decent is also ignorant. Granted, Fez isn't going to demand any double teams and he won't average more than about 4 points a game, BUT HE IS 7'1" AND WEIGHS 285 POUNDS!! I know that being big by itself means nothing (Collins), but the dude also grabbed 5 boards in 8 minutes, and looked very active on defense. I know he didn't have any blocks, but I think other teams would be a little more hesitant driving in there with Fez than Millsap, Okur, Koufos, or Boozer.

re: Steve-O

Brewer is very effective around the basket--probably one of the best in the league. He is a great dunker--no dount. That does not change the fact that he can not hit wide open jumpers--mid range or 3pt. I hope he gets better. He was no defensive stopper in the playoffs last year though. Kobe devoured him.

We did not lose to LA/playoffs because Sloan played Harpring and AK. We lost because we had NO ABILITY to space the floor because of our pathetic outside shooting and that was primarily AK and BREWER who got the majority of the mintues at 2/3.

NEITHER could do anything but score at/around the rim. Their men collapsed into the middle and smothered Boozer and rendered him largely ineffective. 4-5 guys trying to score at the rim in playoffs??? GAME-SET-MATCH!!

Teams pack the paint in the playoffs and make you beat them with a lower % shots--for opponents of the Jazz that is mid-range jumpers and 3pointers. AK and Brewer were absolutely no threat to score from out there. Korver was cold and they blanketed him and made him drive rendering him useless.

Must have someone at the 2/3 who's an outside threat.

Based on the first preseason game here is what I think the Jazz roster should look like at the start of the year

PG: Williams, Price, Knight
SG: Brewer, Korver, Almond
SF: AK, Miles, Harpring
PF: Boozer, Millsap, Kufos
C: Memo, Lyde, Fes

When they have to trim down to 12, if there are no injuries, send Kufos and Almond to the D-league and put Knight on the inactive list. Reality is that there is almost always at least one person hurt so if they send Kufos and Almond to the D-League having 13 guys for twelve active spots shouldn't be a problem.

But what do I know, I just watch the games.
