AK47 off the bench? How will he react to that? Will his fragile ego allow it
long term?
On the other hand if AK47, Milsap, Korver, Harpring and Knight come off the bench we have instant offense, instant defense, rebounding, toughness and ball handling off that bench. Our 2nd unit would be superior to any other 2nd unit and equal to many first units. The Jazz may be very strong using that approach. The starters would be Boozer, Okur, Miles, DWill and Brewer. Of course we still have a deficiency at the 5 spot. Maybe Jerry is looking at a more 'up tempo' game. Who says an old dog can't learn new tricks?

Don't forget Koufos. He length, scoring ability, blocking shots. He had a
great camp and is NBA ready. He is a Sloan guy in spirit and mentality. I would
play over any other big coming off the bench.

Koufos will be valuable in time. However, Fez got 5 rebounds in 8 minutes. He is
worth keeping around if for no other reason he could be as good as Rodman with
some work. Rodman however could score whenever he felt like it.
If Koufos can develop this year, maybe by the playoffs there are times when the Jazz could go very big with Fez, Koufos and AK as a front line.
I would like to see a lot more of Lyde he seems to have potential.

Remember it's just an exhibition game, I'm sure Sloan is using their
players conservatively and not want to have their star players injured. These
games don't really count. Wait until Oct. 29th where it really counts!

No, Deron's not hurt. He had HUGE ice bags on each of his knees. No
biggie. So did Kobe and Lamar Odom.
Did you see CJ and Ronnie Brewer WRECKING the rim!? Oh man, the Jazz were playing above the rim last night and I loved it!
And I know I'm a huge homer, but a win's a win for me against the Lakers. So I was thrilled the Jazz got the W, even if it doesn't mean anything.
My whole night was made when Ronnie Brewer blew past Kobe and threw down an incredible reverse dunk. CJ and him are looking pretty dangerous out there. I think AK and Matt coming off the bench with CJ in the starting 5 instead may be pretty effective.
Can't wait for the season to start!

It FEEEEELS GOOOD! Lyde is better than Tom Collins. Kevin is the right man,
Right! JazzFaninHouston says Rodman could score any time he wanted. Hmmmmmmmmn!
I won't comment on that one. Another Jazz Fan says Haprs will come off the
bench. I think he should stay on the bench and rest those old wheels. If we
need him in the playoffs we know what he can do. We don't know what Miles
and/or Almond can do. So lets find out in the first half of the regular season.
Lets season these lads (especially Miles) now, for a deep run next spring.
Also how about Fez getting 5 boards in 8 mins. Like Patrick Riles once said,
"No Rebounds, No Rings!"

Liked the new look with Miles in the starting 5. If Andrei could take on a Manu
role in that he does not start, but plays in crunch time and still gets his 30
minutes a game, I think this might work. GO JAZZ!!

that Morris Almond was not playing more last night. His play seemed to be
effortless and I thought his defense was as good as any of the rest, yet he was
taken out. It was as though the Jazz does not want him to succeed. When he is
traded or not picked up next year he will become a thorn in the side of the
Jazz.

wants to see Lyde do a sky-hook. Jimmy thinks Phil Jackson will not win another
ring. Jimmy thinks Jerry and Phil Johnson will be coaching in June. Jimmy

Brewer need to start on that 2 spot, and I like the play of Moriis almond. but
again fes is being fes? we need to get him to a hyptnotist and convince him he
is shaq or byum.

Toward the end there, the Jazz couldn't hit free throws. I think that is
why Almond got pulled. You throw up two bricks in a row and Jerry is upset. Even
Brevin had issues and he is a good free throw shooter. But what can you expect
for the first pre-season game.

I was so impressed with Lyde. I think he will be a huge assett. He didn't
hesitate at all to use some defense and his shooting was right there. Very
happy!!! I think Knight is so worried about making an impression that it is
holding him back. He needs to relax and play ball! But all in all - he will be
goog glue for the team.
And Brewer - Dang - he looke good. Very impressed! All in all - I was pleased with what I saw last night - even if it was exhibition.

Even a blind man can see Fez is ooozing with potential. Honestly, if you were
looking for help to seal off the paint who would you choose a man like Collins,
or a man like Fez. I think a man like Fez.I think Horny should continue to work

Liked how Miles looked last night. I hope he can EARN TIME (not expect it to be

Great showing from Brewer, CJ, and Almond last night. We are so deep at that
position. Brewer should be getting frequent flyer miles for as much time as he
spends above the rim.

I spoke to Kevin Lyde at the airport while he was returning from the review, he
is quite a nice guy, and I ask him about being invited for the summer camp, he
was optimistic about it, and lost some weight. He needs to work more on his
conditioning. Being fit will work great for him. He can be the intimidating
force that the Jazz need inside. Being lighter, faster, and having a good
nutritional guidance can turn this guy into a good athlete, and player. Perhaps
Karl Malone could advice him. Just a thought.

I like Lyde.. but the guy is just a filler for camp and the preseason.
He's just there to have another fresh body on the court for practice.
It's nice to have him because if Boozer's Hamstring becomes a major
problem (again) then Lyde already knows the system and he can just jump right
in.
I really liked the whole team last night. The entire team showed me they could be dangerous (with the exception of Collings because I don't really consider him a real player).
D-Will had a 2-3 minute stretch in the 3rd where he showed he can take over a game. Assists and great shooting for that period of time. Other than that he was just happy sitting back and letting others get involved.
P.S. Milsap and Brewer are MUST SIGNS next off season. We can't let those guys get away. If I had to choose between those two or Boozer I'd pack Boozers bags FOR HIM!

Fez is 300 pounds. You can't teach that. Try to move him out of the
paint. Like Tommy Heinsen once said about mark Eaton. "He is a Big Big

Brewer is a serious athlete that plays above the rim and is a dunking
fool....AND....who still can't hit a WIDE OPEN JUMPSHOT. Hmmmm, a
"shooting guard" that can't shoot?
I remember how that worked out in last years playoffs against the Lakers. Brewer and AK launching bricks while their men collapsed to double/triple-team Boozer inside. We all know what the results were of that failed experiment.
We HAVE to have somebody to spread the floor. You can get by with everyone scoring at the rim during the regular season but in the playoffs teams pack the paint and take away most of those high % looks.
If CJ puts it all together, he may be the answer at the 2 because he has the range. Brewer may be better suited to play the 3 where he can play closer to the rim.
Just one preseason game but I sure hope Brewer has a better jumpshot this year. Last night Kobe literally backed up 2 steps away from Brewer when Ronnie caught it baseline-corner. Brewer obliged and put up the brick. We won't beat the Lakers if they don't even have to defend the perimeter.

you are probably more in tune with what is really happening than anyone on the
posts. I have been saying for three years that Brewer is not a two. He is a
three. Miles can play two and then shift to three. Bring linky off the bech if
you need to and if he don't cry about it. CJ! CJ!! CJ!!! I can hear the
chants now. Wake up Sloan. Smell the Salt Lake/Rocky Mountain air. Miles,
Almond and Korver are the 2's. Brewer is a 3. Linky is a four. Hey who is

Almond has the potential to be great. He was scoring and yet showed improvement
in his pasing and defense. If we could get Horny to work with ihm on those
things...or Stockton...I know I'm dreaming, but imagine what Stockton could
do for him...

In reality his shooting percentage probably isn't any worse than Mcgrady or those other guys who "Professionals" have deemed "good" shooters.
All I know is he shot 54% last year for the season. A lot of those were dunks and layups but I'm Ok with that.
Sloan needs to be smart with who he plays in different situations. If a team goes zone or starts packing the middle he should put Korver, CJ, Memo, and Deron in the game. Those guys can bury a few 3's in a row and the defense will have to change. When it does we can throw Boozer, Milsap and other beef nuggets in there to pound inside.
We lost to L.A. last year because Sloan insisted on playing Harpring, A.K. and other guys that can't shoot as well outside.

Why does everyone love Fess? His potential is one Greg Ostertag (who I liked by
the way), but to expect him to be better than that is silly. Both Okur and
Millsap (Millsap is undersized, I know, but about the same height as Ben
Wallace)are better centers than Fess and they have a higher ceiling than fess.
Okur looked good. He looks quicker than last year (I know he still pretty slow) and stronger than last year. I can't tell you how good Millsap looks as a back-up center. He looks faster, stronger, lighter on his feet and he looked even better offensivly.
In 48 minutes at the Center position (I know Millsap alsp plays PF) the Jazz are in position to get 20pts 10rbs 1blks 1stl 3ast 2-3pts. AMAZING

At lunch today I watched ESPN report on the game. I live where it wasn't
broadcast live. Highlights showed how special the Lakers were in getting the
ball inside and scoring
At the end of the piece, they showed the score: Jazz 99, Lakers 90. I was so sure the Jazz had lost from the report.

No mention of Ronnie Price yet??? So I guess I will...I thought he looked great
on defense, flying all over the place. I like him backing up Williams or even
playing some at the 2 spot. Until I see Knight confidently running the offense,
give me Ronnie Price.

I didn't watch the game but here are a couple of general observations.
On Brewer:
There are a couple of points that have been made before and are important to consider when you are talking about wether he should play the 2 or the 3. first is that in the Jazz offense the 2 and the 3 are largely interchangeable. Second, and I think more importantly, is that defensively Brewer is a much better matchup against opposing 2 gaurds. This is especially important considering the fact that the Jazz have several options (AK, Millsap, Harp)against SF types (Anthony, Durrant) but Brewer is really the only SG the jazz have who can go man to man with guys like Kobe, Macgrady, and Ginobli.
Also on his shooting percentage. Hollinger did a nice analyis on Brewer and found that he is unbelievably effective around the basket, almost 70% for a gaurd is unreal, and one of the worst shooting gaurds in the league from outside of 15 ft. I don't think he even needs to develp a 3 point shot, if he developed a deadly mid range jumper (Like Harpring) he could easily be one of the better SG in the league.

it about C.J. Miles last year when you all wanted to dump him and I'll say
it about Fess, he can play, and will be a very good player in this league at his

It was the preseason and Sloan was giving everyone a chance to play and show what they can do. Almond showed what he had in the first half and Sloan decided he had seen all he needed to see and that some other guys needed the time so he could see what they have. He knows what Almond can offer and gave him a rest because he played well and earned the rest. He doesn't need to be out with the scout teams so why put him there? Let the guys at the end of the bench play during the preseason. Almond has proved he can play and that is all the preseason is for

Great win for the Jazz last night. During the playoffs they couldn't guard
the likes of Odom, Kobe and Gasol. Last night they kept them contained.
Bynum's addition to the lineup will be a tough adjustment for the Lakers.
Too many scorers on one team can hurt chemistry.

The Jazz are the best team in the world. They will go undefeated this year,
just like BYU.

The only thing better than a JAZZ WIN IS A LAKER LOSS. Basketball teams
can't go undefeated. They play 82 games not around 12 like pathetic college
football. You must be a football player in order to speak such profound words.
Or got an education at BYU!
