Now that's dumb! | 2:40 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Let me get this straight. McCain is not conservative enough. Therefore, we will vote for someone who is even LESS conservative?

We REALLY need to limit the right to vote to those with 80+ I.Q.'s I'm serious.

And I agree with the earlier post calling for the arrest of CHRIS DODD and BARNEY FRANK. They took Freddie and Fannie money and did NOT do their jobs as chairs of the Banking commission.

Good grief, the Democrats ran our country into the ground in just 2 years and you want give them the henhouse? Blame it on Bush? Don't you understand what a "lame duck" president is?

We ARE in trouble! Not enough intelligent life left in our country!
re: re: dear nobama lovers | 2:44 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Yeah, in a post 9-11 world it bothers me that a US president has terrorist friends.

stupid people 2 | 2:44 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
The education system in this country has been allowed to deterioriate to the point that most first year college entrants are required to take remedial courses just to avoid flunking out. This has been allowed to happen in part because ignorant voters are easier to lie to and manipulate. One party in particular stands to benefit from a majority of illiterate voters. There is one party that: 1)repeatedly stated the Iraq was was lost, and called for immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, 2)is willing to allow the economy to tank in order to persuade the voters to elect their candidates, 3) feel the last two presidential elections have been stolen from them, 4)whose causes are unfailingly supported by the American Civil Liberties Union and main stream media, and 5)repeatedly show themselves to be hypocritical on many supposedly progressive social issues.

The worst of the dilemma is that for the last 8 years the other party has governed so poorly as to allow the upcoming election to be easy pickings.

The future of our republic is in doubt.

Unsavory Characters | 2:45 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008

You mean fellow senators? Yes, I would agree with that. Some of them are pretty unsavory.

Of the two, I'll take McCain.
Why Nobama lover? | 2:51 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Besides Obama's questionable affiliation with Ayers, Rev Wright, Father Flager, et al, would you vote for a guy that will:

- raise your taxes?
- put world governments above the US?
- not protect the unborn?
- increase govn't spending?
- increase energy prices?
- not stop the illegal invasion?
I don't understand | 2:53 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008

All I can do is surmise that you Nobama lovers are first time voters.

I've already lived through a Nobama presidency.

Google Jimmy Carter. Take a gander at his remarkable presidency. That's what we're in for with a Pres Nobama.

American standards in absolutely everything is in the tank. There is little integrity--look at Wall Street. There are no honest brokers of information--look at the media. There is little morality--look at the cases of identity theft, financial fraud, business scams, abortions (note I did not say "unwanted pregnancies"--I said abortions). And look at the quality of candidate America has produced through the Presidential campaign process over the recent past: Bill Clinton, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, Al Gore, John Kerry, Barack Obama, and John McCain. These guys would not stand out in my High School graduating class--how in the world did they get so far in public life?? I suppose the day of truly great leaders that can proudly represent all of America is long gone . . . Isn't it wonderful that we Americans are left to vote for the least of two evils?

I don't care how bad people think McCain is. Why isn't anyone paying attention to the terrorist ties that Obama has. How he removed the flag from his airplane and replaced it with a symbol. Also, why doesn't he put his hand over his heart when the flag is being presented.

Scary if you ask me. He's CLEARLY NOT THE MAN for the White House.

I never ceseases to amaze me, how people can be tricked into believing outright lies. Do you honestly think he would even be allowed to run for senate let alone president if he were, or had terrorist ties? Why Bush has no terrorist ties at all...wait, what?

Oh, if you have ties to terrorists that have ties to oil, it's OK...

I guess you better start digging your bunker now. Superdell might have room for you with him.
The Truth....? | 3:29 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
You have heard the question: How can you tell if a politician is not telling the truth? (Lips are moving)

It appears the bigger the lie, the easier the sale. Obama has this perfected and it really troubles me.

I wonder if we will ever be able to work together in Wash. D.C....So many "politicians" and so few leaders....

Today, the secret service announced that it will be attempting to find the individual at the Palin rally who shouted "kill him" when Palin mentioned Obama. McCain/Palin have taken American politics in the modern age to a new low. They have nothing to stand on when it comes to issues, so they are attempting scare and hate tactics. They say that a man's true character comes out when the chips are down, when he's losing, when he's behind. At that time a man decides who he really is and what he stands for, regardless of the outcome. McCain has shown that he has no character. It's now time for Utah Republicans to live up to the high standard that they claim, that they preach. If they're willing to support a man like John McCain who has led the most despicable presidential campaign in modern history, then it says a lot about the people of Utah. And what it say is that they'll do anything to win. Shame on you.

hey you are starting to move towards actually talking policy. Do you care to provide sources showing Obama making statements supporting any of the things you claim or do you really not want to move beyond simple rhetoric? Lets start with an easy one, what is your supporting evidence that Obama wants to raise our energy prices? What is McCains plan and how will it help reduce the cost? Actual policy's not just more of your rhetoric please. Lets try to elevate the conversation a little to actually talking policy positions.
BYU & Harvard | 4:12 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Mitt Romney has both BYU and Harvard degrees, but McCain skipped economics and management genius Mitt in favor of Sarah Palin?

Barack Obama has Columbia and Harvard degrees, and was a professor at University of Chicago. At Harvard, Obama was elected president of the Law Review, which any lawyer will tell you is the ultimate achievment in law school.

John McCain was fifth from the BOTTOM of his class at Annapolis. Sarah Palin went to five different community colleges before finally graduating.

After 8 years of dum dum Bush, maybe someone smart for a change?
@@why nobama lovers | 4:35 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Sure you can handle a discussion on policy?

Here's a few things to consider for the discussion.

1. Barack Obamas foreign policy is dangerous, nave, and betrays a profound misreading of history. Barack Obamas stance toward Iran is as troubling as it is dangerous. Maintains that he would negotiate with Iran, without preconditions, and within his first
year of office

2. Barack Obamas Iraq policy will hand al-Qaeda a victory and undercut our entire
position in the Middle East, while at the same time put a huge source of oil in the
hands of terrorists.

3. Barack Obama has sent mixed, confusing, and inconsistent messages on his
policy toward Israel.

4. Barack Obama consistently
campaigned against NAFTA, but has now changed his tune, as he has with other
issues.

5. Barack Obamas judgment about personal and professional affiliations is more
than troubling.

6. Obama is simply out of step with how terrorists should be handled; he would
turn back the clock on how we fight terrorism, using the failed strategy of the
1990s as opposed to the post-9/11 strategy that has kept us safe.

8. Barack Obama opposes drilling on and offshore to reduce gas and oil prices.

Joe Sixpack,

For goodness sakes, Obama salutes the flag and says the pledge! If you believe everything about Obama that you read in chain emails from your uncle Cletus, you've drunk one six-pack too many, my friend.

Also,
Notice how paranoid rightwingers say "association with terrorists," plural, when all they got is that Obama served on the same board with Ayers 40 years after the Weather Underground. He's certainly not taking foreign policy advice from Ayers. McCain, on the other hand, not only "associates" with lunatics like Phil Gramm, he brings them on board as advisors. Palin not only "associates" with the anti-American Alaska Independence Party, she speaks at their conventions.

Get used to it, folks. President Obama. I personally can't wait.

Not being an Obama Supporter, or holding as valid anything he may say. I did not watch the Debate. The few moments I caught and the headlines from Fox, really, really scared me. I did two good post on the matter but both got kicked most likely on topic. So I will put them on the Hard Boards. Like Topix.

I would one day like to Vote for someone, not against someone. Or pick the lesser of two evils.

Obama may have finally caught up with himself, we have to see.

I don't think Obama really has a plan, other then the Socialist Society he loves so much.

America will still be the best place to live regardless of weather he wins or not. I do think that there will be a serious move to change term limit laws, as we will not be able to do with out him.

I am just hoping for most of America to have a Massive Reality moment in the booth on election day.
Something needs to break his spell and hold he has over many people.

As hard as it may have been for both Sarah Palin's ardent fans and acid foes to accept, this was a debate that had nothing to do with Alaska, lipstick on pigs, a purported media conspiracy or the questionable moral superiority of small-town life.

At a time when the world economy is teetering on the brink of the abyss, both Obama and McCain rose to the occasion with a serious -- if sometimes ill-focused -- debate that reflected the enormity of the crisis. Obama got it right early in the evening when he flickered away a McCain critique by saying to an audience member, "You're not interested in hearing politicians pointing fingers." What is difficult to determine is how swing voters will react in going from watching this sober Nashville town meeting to being subjected to the impossible-to-justify exaggerations and distortions of the campaign ads on TV. Maybe, just maybe, yet another frightening drop in the Dow will have proven enough to raise the tenor of what was fast becoming a down-and-dirty campaign.

Anonymous | 5:06 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
In 2000, McCain said, "I just have to rely on the good judgment of the voters not to buy into these negative attack ads. Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don't have much of a vision for the future or you're not ready to articulate it."

So what is McCain doing? You guessed it. Running a totally negative campaign.

LOL!

Have we no self preservation instincts at all?

Decrease medicare/aid?
Increase taxes?
Decrease health care? ($2500? my benefits are wort 3 times that)Votes to decrease CHIP
Votes for school choice? (vouchers)
Amnesty for illegal immigrants?
Government owned homes?
100 year war?

I have tons of self preservation and I choose Obama. McCain is nothing new and in fact, wants us in the same old place we've been for decades. He seems to approve of the idea of a renewal of the cold war. Who cares if we get Bin Laden, we need to beat the crap out of Iraq. Let's bankrupt the economy by bailing out his friends. Let's have the gov't but the houses at a loss, and charge the tax payers...on top of the bailout. McCain? No thanks.

Do you want B.O. because you think he is going to change things, or because you hate Bush? The Economy you think Bush has given you? Or the war you think Bush has given you?

I have news for you. If you think our country will be better off in four years under an Obama, Pelosi, Reed government you are sadly mistaken. After they have given the nation a New, New Deal, there wont be much left in America.

Under this New Deal:
More companies will move more jobs outside of the U.S.
Unemployment will be 14%+
Gas will become $6.50+ a gallon because there is no plan to produce more.
The Dow will drop to below 7,500 erasing most peoples chance to retire. Ever.
The dollar will be worth half what it is today and countries will unpeg, leaving us unable to pay our debts.
Social Security will be either nonexistent or completely crippling to taxpayers.
There will be another terrorist attack on a U.S. city.

Welcome to the new America. Thanks to the Bush Haters who vote Obama. Change we can believe in. Welcome to the depression of 2009. Good luck Bush Haters.

Go back nearly 70 years and you will see the U.S. doing this to Japan after they attacked China. What happened? Anyone remember a certain day called December 7th 1941; the attack on Pearl Harbor? If Barack Obama does this what do you think Iran will do. Welcome to the beginnings of WW III everyone.

Really, pure entertainment. John McCain could BOMB Utah (like he wants to continue terrorize Iraq), and the repub voters here would come stumbling out of the smoke to vote McCain/Palin, declare that the democrats did it, and pronounce Obama the "terrorist".
The typical comedy of errors. You've got people all over this board who are really ignorant enough to think Obama is a terrorist, and who act amazed that the rest of civilized America doesn't blame the democrats for all the damage the Repubs have done over the last 8 years! It's hilarious. The egocentrism, the ignorance, the abject undereducatedness it all betrays is HILARIOUS. The smart people on this board are right, McCain is losing this battle, and the fact is Obama will win.
Whether or not a bunch of freaked out right-wing whack jobs think he's a terrorist isn't going to stop him from winning. Newsflash: Ignorance is FEAR. Obama lovers are not afraid, because they are not ignorant. You'd better be taking your teddy bears to bed with you tonight, all you "nobama-hating" characters. You sure are going to need the comfort!

I have an IQ of over 170 and what my logic tells me is that the Democrats were given a "test run" of two years in charge of congress and they did a terrible job.

I'd have to be an idiot to put the Democrats in charge of the White House as well.

Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein, Leahy, Moynihan - for every "Bush," the Democrats seem to have 5 of their own!

I'm very frustrated with both parties and candidates.
Re: More False Accusations | 7:29 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Todd Palin was a registered member of the AIP until 2002, Sarah attended two of their conventions, and she taped an address to them last year in which she praised them for the part they play in Alaskan politics. This has been verified. Just imagine what would happen if Jill Biden (or even better, Michelle Obama) had belonged to an organization that wanted to secede from the Union.

Reading these posts, I'm extremely grateful that Utah doesn't matter in presidential elections. I shudder to think what would come out of John McCain's mouth if he had to cater to you people...
2 years? | 7:40 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Dems get two years in the Senate and that's all? The last 26 of 28 don't count? What a joke. There's so much wrong with the statement it's hard to know where to begin.

Obama, Marxist? Honestly, where do you people get this stuff? That's a pretty big word for such a small mind.

This country is headed for hard times no matter who gets chosen to be president. Facts are, we're in a mess. I want to have some retirement fund left. I want to have some medicaire available if needed. I distrust the policies of the Republicans and George Bush. Nothing McCain says makes me believe he is any different or is a man of any character at all.

And all of this scare tactics that he is doing by saying that Obama is a terrorist is exactly the same as the scare tactics used by dictators and idiots.

Anybody hear of Palin's pastor who once saved an african village from a local witch? No that's scary!
