Homeowner Bailout a Joke | 10:54 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
When McCain buys all those $500,000+ mortgages and re-sells them to the same people who couldn't afford them in the first place for half their value -- who's going to cough up the other half of that money that the bank loaned out -- you and me, baby!! The taxpayers! I don't want to be penalized because my family bought house smart (what we could afford) and somebody else was trying to make a fast buck and came up short!

Thanks for your help!!!

Thats the problem with to go obama go, the same problem with republicans...they say what to change but not how and talk about something different, not the real issue!!!

America need a change and a chance to do things the right way, not the "cowboy way"

Is Senator John McCain hard of hearing? I listened to the debate and heard the response of Senator McCain to Senator Obama's answer and McCain seem to twist it around. I felt McCain was not listening or couldn't hear and it seemed he was framing his reply before Senator Obama was finished talking. If Senator McCain is hard of hearing that is one thing, on the other hand Senator McCain appeared to be condescending, arrogant and rude. Definitely not my choice for president.
Broke | 11:19 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
On October 31st I will be signing my last payroll checks. I have been in business for 14 years and now I must close my doors due to a lack of business revenues. My customers relied heavily on their credit to do business with our company. With the economy going bust, my revenues are down 81% from just six months ago. My payroll has been nearly $1 million dollars per month, and for the last 4 months I have had to help meet payroll with personal savings. When voting next month, go with the candidate that makes the most sense for small business owners!

Dishonesty comes no matter the program - look at AIG and what they have done with rescue money! I am going through a short sale right now because of a mandatory job transfer by the govt. no less. We have gone through fire to get to this point. You have to send all of your financial information and plead for mercy. Believe me it is the last thing we wanted to do. Don't call to take away some solutions that honest people need.
A Reality Check | 11:23 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
The bad news is that the prophecy of American Socialist presidential candidate in the 50's and 60's Norman Thomas, that although a Socialist would never be elected president in America, socialism would sneak in America's back door disguised as liberalism. As matters appear now Thomas' prophecy may be fulfilled in the person of "that one."

The good news is that America survived the disastrous socialistic presidential tenure of Jimmy Carter and God willing will survive the Socialist/
Marxist tenure of "that one." It appears that America will have to be reminded anew that Democracy is the worst form of government except all those others that have been tried.

Childish? There are serious talking points.

It speaks to who Nobama is.

And speak for yourself. Those of us who still love this country want the best for it.

Nobama is not the best.

If you're upset about the talking points. Please refute them. Why would anyone seriously consider voting for a guy who hangs around terrorists?

Workers and taxpayers, please hold on to what you have now, don't get caught up in this commercialized thing called christmas. Celebrate it for what it is supposed to be, and keep your money and credit cards in your wallets and purses. This is going to take awhile to correct this financial fiasco so hold tight, hold on and we will make it through this. Don't be foolish and misled by advertising and the media into unloading your trasured cash for this years xmas season. SAVE IT.

Yes, it matters to me. This is the next president of the US we're talking about.

When I found out that Obama launched his political career at the house of a domestic terrorist, I was stunned. It all happened when I was a kid, but I had no idea that Ayers and his wife were responsible for bombing the US Capital, and the Pentagon.

And Ayers wife was sent to prison for failing to cooperate in solving the robbery of a Brinks armored car in which two police officers were killed. Far from remorse, Ayers told The New York Times in September 2001 that he wished he could have done more.

Holy cow. You want to elect this guy?

...it doesn't matter in Utah. If there was a monkey on the GOP ticket, Utah would still vote 3:1 Republican. I wish people here would learn to think for themselves, instead of blindly following the status quo (you can't be a good Mormon and a Democrat at the same time, right?).

It's sad to read the neocon posts. These poor saps really do believe their beloved GOP is somehow going to come through for them on the final reel.
Never mind the polls. Never mind the record-breaking number of people registering Democratic.
And never mind that America at large (the REAL America, that is) does not want 4 more years of the same monstrous crap of the Cheney/Bush doctrine that has run this country into the ground while making their oil pals and Dick and Lynne Cheney's Halliburton and Lockheed Martin filthy rich off the backs of dead troops and the little guy who has made them rich.

It's NOT true. It's been DEBUNKED by Newsweek.......Newsweek, the lib magazine. Even they get it. Why don't you who want to use it against her give it up???
this is the best? | 12:15 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I don't think either candidate was overly compelling with their remarks last night. During the debate I kept on asking myself, "is this the best that America has to offer?" We as Americans are forced to pick between two mediocre candidates like we did four years ago and four years prior, etc. Why is it that elected officials are so mediocre instead of the best that America has to offer? I am tired of voting for someone who just happens to be slightly better then the other candidate. Even if McCain or Obama wins the presidency, IT IS US, the American people who are the real losers in this whole presidential vote.
re: @dear nobama lovers | 12:23 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Would you hop on board an aircraft loaded with people and fuel and after you get off the ground discover that the pilots had only been trained to simply fly the plane but they were never trained to take off or land? What if all the people on board were saying to you to relax that they only want to prove a political point and then they will land? That is what happened on 9/11. Just like the terrorists seeking only a quick lesson in flying, Obama has successfully jumped into the drivers seat with only the experience to coast. I'm concerned that he may have been trained to get where he's at from some "other" entity. I like the guy but I can't trust our nations security to him.

I dont like McCain but he is all about America. I have never seen Obama show emotion about being an American. Sorry, I feel he has an alternative motive.

Disappointed | 12:44 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
How does Obama even have the experience to be s US Senator, let alone a president? I mean, the guy never made more than $100K in salary before becoming a senator, never built a business, or even invested in a business. His wife was the wage earner in the family. Has he even balanced his own checkbook?

From the debate we learned that instead of voting for regulation of Freddie and Fannie (his buddies) he wrote letters to the Secretary of the Treasury and to Wall Street. Shouldn't a senator be creating, studying, and voting on meaningful legislation rather than just writing letters to complain?

Then there was his comment about health care - that if a person couldn't get it from their work they should be able to get the same coverage as he has as a "government Employee". Since when is a senator a government employee!!!! A senator is an elected representative of the people, not a government employee! He doesn't even understand what it means to be a senator!

Obama is clearly the better choice. Biden may as well be debating with a fourth grader. I very sincerely hope they take the white house.
I also hope that with a new administration, the two parties can find some means of coexistence. I'd still like to see Romney given a position in the treasury. He'd be terrific for the job, and I think most non-biased people know this. Once the Democrats have the presidency, I hope they can look past the party colors and pick the best people for the jobs, and do their best to purge Washington of some of its blatant corruption.

Re: re: stop short sales | 12:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
There are those who have needed to short sale. I am a Realtor and have listed several homes as a short sale. People like you are in a well deserving situation for a short sale. The market was good, you bought a home, then circumstance sends you to a new job and dumb luck puts your home in a buyers market where you hurt. This is exactly what the short sales are for. Unfortunately, there are those who never move out and use the short sale to their advantage. I have one person who I refused service to because he wants to short sell his 3 million dollar home to get 1 million off the price. Several other people do this and a Realtor can make a ton of money by helping with these crooks. I'm not one and won't be.

I would support your cause in a heartbeat. Good luck with your sale, your new job and your move. Please know that it's not the honest people I'm attacking. It's the dishonest people who got us here in the first place and now seek a way to reduce their home and increase future equity. Just unfair advantages they take.
Bush Haters | 12:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
All I hear is "Bush's Failed Economic Plans" from the Liberal Cooks.

Name one thing that the Dem Congress has done? ONE? Name one thing that B.O is going to do?

This economic crisis is linked to Clinton and the Dems just as much if not more than Bush.

It is a sad day in America when we put a man in power not because of his record or his "plan for America' but because people hated Bush. It is not democracy we live in (People voting for B.O. because they hate Bush is not a vote for someone). America better wake up or in four years, after B.O. and the Dems have thier "new, new deal" there won't be anything left.

My perdictions for 2012 with Obama in full retreat:

Dow: 7,532
Gas: $6.50 a gallon
Unemployment: 11%

Welcome to America under Obama.
Responsible Citizen | 12:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Well, maybe this whole financial mess will put us back where we started...having to put 10-20% down on a house, actually taking loans we can afford and living within our means. What a novel concept.

It just irritates me to no end that people are blaming all the problems on Wallstreet, the government, and 'predator lenders'. Are we not responsible for our own actions? Although the afore mentioned do bear blame, it is not all theirs to take.

As a fiscally responsible person, I am outraged that my tax dollars will be used to bail-out irresponsible loan-takers on the verge of losing their homes. Maybe I should get some kind of incentive because my house is paid off.

People learn from pain. If we have to go through rough financial times (lose our house, etc.), we'll be more responsible in the future. If we don't allow people to experience this pain, how many times are we going to have to bail them out?!
I've decided | 1:00 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I watched the finger pointing, the accusations and some of the laughable comments last night and was amazingly surprised that I made my final decision last night, I have been on the fence till now. WOW McCain looks old, looks like he needs shoulder surgery and I felt like he was condesending when he kept saying "my friends" and writing everything down, then all that wondering around, did he have to go to the rest room? Show a little respect for people around you and come up with an answer that an "average" american can understand.

As for the economy, it lies directly on the consumer. If you know you can't afford a $300,000 home on a $1,500 paycheck then you shouldn't have bought it. I can't believe how many people have 3 mortgages, just to keep up with their neighbor, so as a consumer it's your fault you're in forclosure and the banks fault for loaning you the money. Take some responsibility for your own actions, why should I as a tax payer have to bail you out of a bad decision when I live within my means?
OmahaMan | 1:00 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Would the TRUE Maverick please step forward, from the 1994 movie, Mel Gibson (huba, huba). If I hear the phrase "My friends", in connection with another McCain statement I am going to puke. And, I only watched the last half hour of the debate.

Obama is no threat because of his past affiliations. One step out-of-line, and a gun-tottin', right-wing extremest will take him out. We're counting on you, the NRA fanatic as the new arm of the Federal goverment. (Executive, Legislative, Judicial and "God given" right to high-powered, semi-automatic, long-range rifleman.)
Ron Paul | 1:00 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I'm writing in Ron Paul. My conscience won't let me vote for McCain after he voted for the economic bailout fiasco. Obama is the last person I would vote for. If he becomes president we are in for a change all right. Say hello to the Socialist States of America if he get elected. It just blows me away that so many people are gullible enough to vote for Obama. Or maybe they just prefer socialism. How can it be anything else. Either they just don't understand clearly who Obama is or they prefer socialism. Not to mention that he likes to associate with terrorists. This is truly a man who does not like America and will change it for sure. Be very scared if he makes it.
Re: dear nobama lovers | 1:05 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
If it creeps you out that Obama sat on a board with Ayers, you need to check out the unsavory characters that McCain has associated with over the years.

Surely you are not one sided, and find those equally distasteful?

And when we are done with that, we will move on to Palin.

Face it, McCain is a scary old man, who will drift away. Thank the lord.
Not a dime's worth | 1:11 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I used to hear people say there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the republicans and the democrats. After listening to the debate, I'd say there's not 4 CENTS worth.
Both Obama and McClain want to bail out unwise companies and homeowners. Both want to cure the problems with health care. Both want to increase our presence in Afghanistan (even the next-door Russians couldn't win there), both want to "fix" social security and medicare. Both say they are in favor of more "peacekeeping" and "humanitarian" efforts by U.S. troops.
All of the problems either of them mentioned needing fixing were caused by government action! ALL of them. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were BOTH government programs.
And we have Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin saying they each have a magic wand to wave to fix the problems caused by the actions of a Congress made up of members of both their parties. And with voting records of favoring many, if not most of the programs.
Neither of the two live in my world--McCain married money and Obama's "poor, single mom" had a PHD and his grandmother was a vice-president of the Bank of Hawaii!
We have a choice--give me a break!

15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing.

the short answer to both the replies to my previous post is yes it is childish. the longer answer is there are stories that havr been run for over a year now and no obviously people do not care becuase Obama is leading in the polls. I will not bother going line by line to refute each silly claims it has been done a thousand times before over the past year on threads just like this so I can only assume you just walked out of your cave or that nothing that anyone says to you is going to get you to move on and look at real issues. I for one would like to talk about something relevent like what the heck these people would propse to do to help the economy.

The more I listen to the debates, and read about the issues, the more I like Obama. He seems to me to be a compassionate person who cares more about the average person than about the big corporations. He also has common sense ideas about everything from the war on terror to health care. I don't like McCain's ideas about taxing employee medical benefits, and I don't like the implication that the war could go on for years, and we'll never catch Bin Laden because we're looking in the wrong place anyway. I like what Obama said about not abandoning Afghanistan or the Georgia Republic, and about using the military as a last resort, only after intense diplomacy. He seems to have a commonsense approach to Iraq, too. As a Navy mom, that's important to me.

This is one Latter-day Saint sister who is voting Democrat for the first time since Clinton. I guess that puts me in the minority, in more ways than one.

Go Obama!

McCain is toast! The caricature that Pallin has brought to the table has been more of a curiosity than a substantial addition to the campaign. Joe Biden is the real meat and potatoes in all of this. If Obama falters and chooses not to run a second time, Biden will be the next Democratic nominee for president, even though Hillary still has hopes that it will be her. McCain reminds me of the old man coronated by the Republicans when they propped up the barely breathing Viagra man, Bob Dole, in front of the cameras. It was a total joke then as now.

Why does a crappy educational record and do-nothing career in the senate not cause you to dump him?

Why does his willingness, without reason, to continue to warmonger against the world, which makes them all hate us, not cause you to dump him?

Is your hatred and fear of black people and the democratic party so deep that you'll vote AGAIN for ANOTHER badly educated warmonger right-wing radical?
