You should be playing football to see how much you expect to win
Football? | 8:53 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Wow, already throwing punches? Football is NOT going to happen. Get over it! Move On!
why not? | 10:14 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Football is THE fall sport of kings. We are one of the only states that does not have 8 man football to accommodate smaller schools. Spring is for baseball. The only reason people do not want to play football is fear. How many football games did Panguitch win when they did play football? If Wayne played football, they would not be as dominant.

Region 15 Observer | 10:36 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008
The second comment is correct. Region 15 football is NOT coming in any of our lifetimes. However, having watched the kids from this region for a lot of years now, I think it is safe to say that if they did play football, they would do very well. This is especially true of Panguitch. They have some BIG kids at that school and have had for years.
For what it's worth, I say Wayne and Panguitch in the final game with Wayne winning by the 10 run rule. Sorry, Panguitch. I've seen your guys pitch, and I don't think they can keep Wayne off the bases. Every kid in Wayne's lineup can hurt you with his bat, and their pitching is so solid (and so deep). In fact, if their top two pitchers didn't throw, I think they'd still win. Maybe not by the 10 run rule, but it would still be hard for the other teams to put 5 runs on them.
Oh, and by the way, a BIG congratulations to Green River. Doing what they did with what they had. You have to tip your hat to that. Also a tip of the hat to Valley.
Why Not? "King" | 12:17 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Move on already! This article isn't about Football! Take your Football crown and got sit on your throne somewhere else. Go whine to 2A or beyond and see how you compete there. WE PLAY BASEBALL!!! Yup "It's 'only' 1A, but it's working for a lot of kids, fans, and schools. Good job all 1A teams yesterday, that was a lot of fun and good luck Friday and Saturday.
Grandma from Eastern Utah | 12:49 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Congratulations Green River!! You had an awesome season - Region Co Champs with Dugway and especially with only 9 players and 1 injured. Good luck in upcoming years.
We love you!
Greg Parsons | 1:11 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I just want to take a moment and congratulate all the teams that have made it to the semifinals. Good luck to Wayne, West Ridge, Panguitch and Valley. There were some excellent games played yesterday and it was an honor to be a part of the quarterfinals.
I also want to express my appreciation to my little "Fine Nine". You have had a wonderful season and there is nothing to hang your heads about. Yes, it would be have been wonderful to continue the season by playing in the semis. You represented yourselves, school, and community well. This has been the funnest, (most fun) season for me to coach. Thanks for working hard and giving it all you got. I hope that we can ride the ride even further next year.
Thanks to all the parents and community fans who believed in us and supported us to the end. I will always remember this great season.

"We're from Region 15, and we kind of like to brag about ourselves," said Panguitch coach Clint Barney. Maybe we do it in an egotistical way."

Ya think!!!! Finally someone from Panguitch who will admit they like to brag themselves up. If I hadn't read the comment myself I wouldn't have believed it. You hit the nail right on the head Coach Barney!!!!
Re: Why Not? | 2:55 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Spring is for baseball? Wow! Who knew? You should immediately contact MLB and tell them they're playing in the wrong season.

Also, I believe the sport of "kings" is horse racing (or is it falconry?). Anyway, it is not, and never has been, football.
basin boy | 3:35 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
duchesne and altamont play football. because it's much more fun than baseball, and draws a bigger crowd.
thats all | 3:55 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I'm not one of those people who think schools that don't play football are weak, obviously region 15 is not weak as they are competitive in every sport at the 1A level. However, imagine how great the already fierce rivalries between Region 15 and 16 would be if some region 15 schools played football. We're not saying you can't play baseball. Just play it in the spring like everyone else. (I know, I know, the MLB is playing right now too, but surely you realize they began their season in the Spring right?) I think if you played baseball in the Spring schools like Rich and others would start a program. I know Panguitch would be competitive in football, I played basketball against them and they do have good athletes. I just think it would be cool thats all.
SERIOUSLY?! | 4:21 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Did he really say that? HAHAHA! Coach Barney proves once and for all what we all already knew about Panguitch! Thanks Coach!

Although region 15 may not always win the championship game, if you will go back and look, they are always right there. We are a region with a winning tradition thats all! We are confident in our region, and we have the history to back it up! Hate us for it, but thats how it is!

You think valleys out huh. Just you watch!
attn: region 15 fan | 7:46 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Region 15 is always competitive. That can't be denied, what's funny is your guys unwillingness to accept that 16 is equally as dominant, which it undoubtedly is. Numbers don't lie. Nobody hates you for your competitive history. What people don't like is how arrogant you seem about it. I think the baseball coach from Panguitch pretty much legitimized that perception in this article.
To: Thats all | 8:29 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Great Comment! Expressed very well. We both know anyone in their right mind would rather play football than baseball. It involves 22 players every play. No one gets bored and the bottom line is there is room for every kind of body big or small in the game. It is FUN!!!! and all of region 15 knows it. You will never get as excited at a baseball game as a football game. (expecially in the Fall) If your kids ever played, they would give up their whole season for one awesome game of football. We know this because we have played the game of baseball. Not new to us. Just not as fun. I have never asked a bunch of athletes from Region 15 if they would like to play football and not have everyone of them respond everytime wishing they did. Quit letting your school boards tell you what to do!! Come play some Football!!!! Or quit bragging about how great of an athlete you are. We all know which sport takes the most gain and pain!!! It is awesome!!!

Don't lump the rest of us in with Panguitch. There's only one place like that on this earth. Region 16 isn't as good as Region 15 in basketball, and their baseball is atrocious. When you start mixing in the other sports and girls sports, you can certainly make that argument, though.
Region 15 Observer | 9:12 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
I live in the boundaries of one of the Region 15 schools, and I can assure all of you that not all people who cheer for R15 are so convinced that R15 schools are "all that." Most of the people who live around me think it's fine if the teams do well, but realize that sports, especially high school sports, have their place. Most of my neighbors wouldn't dream of being as arrogant as some of the writers have been. Then again, there is something about being able to voice one's opinion in anonymity that brings out the less-diplomatic side of people.
Good luck to the players. Everybody else, take a deep breath.
Forget football | 9:56 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Football is never going to happen in any of these schools that play baseball at this time of year! but all you "Jock" football players talk your crap somewhere else! if we did have football we would probably beat you at that too if we started where you did because we're dedicated! just go leave your blogs somewhere else!!!
To: Forget Football | 11:35 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
Make sure and do not watch any football all year because it is such a stupid sport right? I am sure no one will watch any football this time of year. Say what you want. You can not deny football is more fun to play than baseball. Love to hear your comeback on that one. Just keep playing baseball. Fits all you guys better. LOL It is such a physically demanding game right? I am sure you have to live thru more pain in baseball right? I am sure it is more entertaining! We probably should stay off your blog as the truth is hurting more and more. OR, you could come and play some football. If Milford can put together a team, you guys should. And 1A football a JOKE!! Ask all the players that have ever played and see if any of them would have rather played fall big man 1A baseball!! You guys are so much better than the rest of the high schools that play them in the spring right?
Anonymous | 11:56 p.m. Oct. 8, 2008
So you won't take my offer to step on the mat? Too tough, Mr. 1A football stud? I played football in 3A, btw. Again, 1A football is a joke. I would much rather be involved with 1A baseball than 1A football. The other classifications with football would be intriguing. The only glaring truth on this thread is that you have no respect or perception for sports and events other than those that you're involved with.
re: anonymous at 11:56 | 1:44 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
HAHA! It's hilarious that you're calling someone to the mat while keeping your name anonymous. Oh.. and 'btw' nobody can possibly believe you when you say you played football because obviously if you ever had you would rather have a football program in the fall than baseball. And acting like you know ANYTHING about 1A football is just plain misleading because we all already know you're full of it. Oh and another thing... stop acting like region 16 teams haven't won just as many wrestling titles as 15. Again this is a losing argument for you so stop trying to sell it. Numbers don't lie!
1A sports | 8:06 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I attended school at the 1A level and loved it!! I could play all the sports that we had there and be successful. Don't get me wrong, I wished that we had football back then and still do today wish that I could of played. It's really not possible for some of the 1A schools to play football. It's not that we are scared or don't want to. It's more like the schools don't have the numbers nor the money to get a football program started. That's that and we can argue all we want about it on this forum but that is not going to make it so that we can play football.
Region 15 | 8:13 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I applaud Coach Barney, finally a coach that tells the truth. Region 15 continues to dominate, and while many of the other regions have their years, region 15 remains a constant.
Gary McKee, Rich County Times | 8:24 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Been watching the comments and laughing. I think you sum things up to say you would rather play 1A baseball than 1A football. By the way, it holds no water to say you might be interested in football if it is not 1A. The top four teams in 1A do very well against their larger school opponents every year. The numbers do not lie. Anyway, some boys and men are adraline junkies and some are not. Region 16 loves football, wake boarding, water skiing, snow boarding, intense Mountain climbing on a snowmobile, skiing, Mountain climbing etc.. Region 15 likes baseball. Keep at it. It is what you guys are good at and enjoy. We all understand. We just happen to like our sports very physical and intense. Nothing against region 15. Our boys in region 16 are all just adrenaline junkies!
Small? | 9:03 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
If Milford can field a team, very few 1A schools could not field a team. I coached an 11 man football team in California at a school that had only 40 boys. It is hard, but well worth it. Nothing starts off a school year like football. We should see if 1A can look again at 8-man football, it is exciting and even the smallest of schools could do it. I know that when Utah was looking at 8-man football a few years ago, all the bigger schools in the state were going to help out with equipment so the start-up cost would be alot less. Let's do it....
Football?!? | 9:34 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
You can't tell me that football is more physically demanding than wrestling! Sure at the lower levels of football and wrestling either can be less demanding physically, but at the higher levels of competition wrestling is by far the more demanding sport. Region fifteen does have wrestling so it is not a matter of too "weak" or not. It is just a matter of having the "higher ups" agree and magically find the funds to get football going....
Anonymous | 10:08 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
See, you keep assuming things. I played football and wrestled at Wasatch High School, played baseball in the spring. If you want to get things and names out in the open we can do that, but that wouldn't make much sense to me because nothing will come of it. I've seen both sides of the coin, football's incredible. 7:00 PM on Friday nights in front of a thousand people were some of the best times in my life. But I wouldn't trade this siutation playing 1A baseball in the fall for anything. Neither would any of the kids. We don't talk about football just like you don't talk about baseball. And the world continues to turn.

And Gary, c'mon The top 1A football schools have a terrible time against the larger ones. Only Kanab has a respectable program and they just moved back from 2A, what, four years ago? Duchesne had a great year two years ago. What else?
Anonymous | 10:19 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Region 16 has four wrestling titles. Region 15 has 20. What are you talking about? If you're going to start calling arguments over and declaring winners, at least base yours on facts. All you do is ramble your opinions, think no one else has any valid ones of their own, and then raise your own hand in the air.
Re: To forget football | 10:50 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
well for one we havent ever played! its not we dont want to we just cant! the community and other things wont let us! just go play your football that is more "painful, physically demanding, and harder" but i dont see you guys packing STATE CHAMPIONSHIP rings or trophies! so go play football! and stay out of our love of the game and our passion! if we could we would play football! you guys have been playing for a lot longer than us! and if we would have started when you did we would dominate you guys too! we'er dedicated! so just go practice while we play in the state tournament! region 15!!! is in the playoffs! and a region 15 team has a shot at the title no matter what! so we'll take you on the baseball field any day! "bring it dont sing it!"
bballer | 10:51 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I think Pang town should expect to be in the finals they are a good team. Since you are trying to be honest for once you should also mention that Wayne will beat you in 5 innings by 10 plus runs if you play the best game you have played all season and Wayne just plays there normal game. Nothing to be ashamed of but just remember this 2nd is just the first loser.
Tom Britzlaf, Poor County Regist | 11:00 a.m. Oct. 9, 2008
"Sports" where a machine totally propels the person aren't physical, Gary. You don't like to ride bikes? Run? Swim? No...? Just ride your machines around? Let me guess, but you play football and now you're better and more physical than those who don't, eh? Great insight, thanks.
R15 | 12:36 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
Football would be great guys, but it's not going to happen. I don't know why you're all here, but it looks to me like you're just thumping your chests. Can't you let us have our baseball discussion and you go talk football on yours? Talk about a hijacking
Anonymous | 12:58 p.m. Oct. 9, 2008
I want to apologize for what I said about the 1A football programs. I felt challenged and backed into a corner and said things I didn't mean. I hate it when folks from larger school talk down to those that are smaller and that's basically what I did.

I love football. My favorite team in any sport is Florida State football and I've lived and died with them for over half my life. I travelled four hours to Rice-Eccles last year to watch my school get throttled by Logan, after not being able to spend any time in Heber for a couple years. I don't know as much about 1A football as I do 3A-5A, but I could talk football at any level with anybody. I still follow the football playoffs about as closely as I do 1A baseball.

Good luck to North Sevier. I know some of the players and coaches over there and hope they win 1A. I hope all you 1A football guys will understand that this isn't the time and place to persuade us, or whatever, to join your ranks. Let us have our time in 1A baseball while it's going on.

Good Luck guys!!! Have the time of your lives.
