This would be great in Utah County also! My husband has ridden his bike to work for 38 years. He is really doing his part, considering that he was an exploration geologist finding oil for Exxon and Esso it's amazing,

$$$?

This sounds like a bad way to save money for UTA when they're losing millions in revenue.

Why can't the UTA include a bike lane over the point of the mountain, at the same time they put the south leg on TRAX? The bikers that use the dirt hauling frontage roads always have to ride at risk.
There are no margins what so ever for safe travel while riding. Many commuters including myself would have the option of riding a bike safley to work rather than driving. If the UTA is the wrong tree to bark up, please advise as to the ears that might hear.

The "survey" that the article refers to will, doubtless, be made to show whatever UTA wants it to show!
I have used UTA and followed their board minutes for years and anyone who looks at them very close can see that they employ what I call "smoke and mirrors" management. That is, they are not so much concerned with ACTUALLY improving service as they are in CONVINCING people through P.R. campaigns that they improve service.
Almost immediately after they implemented the "fuel surcharge" diesel fuel prices began dropping. They went ahead and added two more "surcharges" after that.
I suspect these "fuel surcharges" will be in place forever as simply another way to raise revenues.
The best thing that could happen to improve service is if local governments (mayors and counties)started watching them closer.
If more people actually cared about what UTA does they would not be able to carry off their "smoke and mirrors" media campaigns without ACTUALLY improving service!

John, UDOT has been working with UTA and the Union Pacific Railway on the "Point of the Mountain Trail" project. I'm not sure where the project is currently (given funding and design issues - crossing the railway creates the need for an bridge or expensive underpass), but UDOT is the lead agency on it.
